Hello, my name is C.J. Hamlin. I live in Central Florida and recently started a Lawn and Landscaping business. I have a passion for nature and working outdoors. I am amazed at the professionalism and talent displayed by the artists on this site. I am very excited about having you design my logo and look forward to your ideas soon.
Company name: AdvanScapes Lawn Care
Services provided: Complete lawn care (mowing pruning etc.) and
Landscaping.
Colors: Green, red, blue…I am very open for your ideas on colors.
Style: I would like a professional and quality feel rather than
a “cartoon-like” logo. I was thinking about an Iconic logotype
with a nice glyph or character to distinguish my company from
others. Or a Word mark logo so that the company name is
easy to read. I am very open for ideas, you are the expert.
Positioning: AdvanScapes on top with the Lawn Care positioned below.
Again, I am very open to your ideas.
Items: Trees, Leaves, Grass, etc.
Deadline: October 1st (unless a winner is selected before the deadline)
How I will use the logo: Business cards, letterheads, envelopes, advertisements, sign on truck(s), clothing, phone book, and eventually on a web site.
I am hoping to get the logo in the formats that apply for my usage.
I can’t wait to see your ideas! I will be watching the forum closely throughout the day. Thank you very much for your time. :)

coredesign:
Can you add the "Lawn Care" words into it?
I like the grass, I definitely think it would be a good idea to have something within the logo that represents what my company does; a tree, a leaf, grass, etc.
Also, should we have the --Advan-- and --Scapes-- seperate colors. (Advan-red Scapes-green.) ???
Thanks

I have been searching through the Designoutpost.com logo threads and have seen some awesome designs! Here is an example of one that I found, this is just an idea of something that I like:

Eagle: Very nice design! I am surprised at how quickly you create these logos. I am impressed.
coredesign: I especially like the middle logo on your revision. It should be color printer friendly, and it is very clean and crisp. Could you try a different font on that one?
Keep them coming...

Two ideas.
SeaJay

J-Design: I like your designs becuase the name "AdvanScapes" is more closeley integrated with the picture (grass or green lines). This makes the logo look smooth and has a nice flow.
The logo ideas posted so far have been nice. I am looking for a, somewhat, simple design (but not too simple, more than just a few blades of grass)...but I would like the tree, grass, leaf, etc. to be a little more catchy.
And the name "AdvanScapes" and "lawn care" seperate colors.
Eagle: I really like how your logo design is "boxed in" (does that make sense?)
(Another link for a logo design that caught my eye http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/upload...-1051672844.gif (http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/uploads/post-4-1051672844.gif) )
I think using the tree in the logo would look good.
 Thank you.

Hi,
Here is my go at your logo....I decided to go with something organic but give it a little technical kick...You design /build lawns, like an architech, you would need a blue print....so I made a leaf a very simple blue print image. Definitly unique.

 Taldo: Wow, I like that design. I really like the seperate colors for Advan----and----Scapes. Can you darken the color of Lawn Care a bit...Also, the Advan-is lower cased and SCAPES-is all upper, It does look good like that. Can you post an example of the Scapes lower cased ("capes" lower and "S" upper). Sorry if I am being too picky.
Very catchy logo...
--I don't want to jump ahead here but...I am also the President and founder of the Police United organization. I will need a logo and a template for our web site soon, as we will be going dot com soon or .org. You can bet that I will be back here! Thanks for your time. http://policeunited.tripod.com

09-12-2003, 05:20 PM
Taldo: I like the shape of the first "boxed in" logo. The green grass/plant-like image on top is overlapping the AdvanScapes box. Can you *keep the same shape* but connect the two so that they are not overlapping? Sorry, I'm not so good at explaining it.
coredesign: The second logo (middle one) and the bottom logo, look great, I like the font and colors. Could you try to enclose this logo in a unique way? (Box it in but not with a plain square.)
Ejlain: I like your designs. The second (middle) logo really stands out, it is very original. Could you try a different font or a darker green and lighter green color for contrast.
JulieT: The name really stands out. I like it. Do you have any other ideas for the backround (makes me think of a bulls eye)? The second logo looks nice, I like the font, the colors could be darker and the leaves are a bit distracting...
Thank you very much for your hard work,

pennyln: Very nice!
I like the style a lot. I would like to keep the Advan and Scapes together --> "AdvanScapes".
I really like the leaves, especially in two different colors, maybe one in brown/or red the other green (representing two seasons).
The tree looks great too, I like the "Lawn Care" right under the tree a lot.

To all: I would like to see AdvanScapes in a font that looks very "woodsy", natural, outdoors, etc. The environment is very important to our company; I would like a logo that shows this. "Environmentally warm."
Also, maybe a swoosh like design around or through the AdvanScapes...
**coredesign: That looks great, can you try the Advan and Scapes separate colors? Advan--->dark green , Scapes--->light green, brown, or red
I hope you don't mind this example of a font: http://www.plgraphics.com/logo4.gif

JulieT: do you have any other leaves that might be a little more catchy or unique? I like the font a lot. -- I'm not sure if I like the bulls-eye logo... I do like your tree on the last logo. I really like how you set up the "AdvanScapes" surrounded in black; do you have any other marks that you could try? A leaf, tree, swoosh, maybe even a *tree frog*?
Pennyln: I really like the last logo a lot. The tree is very simple, clean, and professional. Could you make the tree mark a little larger on the last logo?
Thank you.

Light Bulb... :D
An engineer uses tools to measure things, a compass can point out your direction, a protractor, measuring tools... can we somehow incorporate that with a tree or leaf. Advanced Landscaping...more than just cutting grass...Maybe we can show that on the mark with a tree and measuring lines...??
I think that a tree frog would look good with the logo.

Yes, that is really nice. It would look very cool on my web site. I wonder how large the files are, It shouldnt effect load time by much...It could even be a little extra clickable feature. I like it a lot. The internet and web design has come so far...technology at work! The internet is an aweome media source and people connection place. And this web site is just another example of it. Thanks. :D
Taldo: Would you be able to experiement with the color inside the box around "AdvanScapes"? Also, can you somehow make the surrounding section around the logo all one piece? I am refering to the logo you submitted at 10:20 am. I would like the logo to be closed in but not with a plain square box. Did that make sense? If not let me know...thank you so much. :)

Hello, here are my first posts :) .
I used for that an idea from a previous design. I thought I would give it another chance, because I've invested a lot of time in this design, and it wasn't selected. With your help, I can twist it so maybe we can find something that you like. As you can see, I integrated the green tree in the back, a little bit out so it can draw attention easily, and I think the yellow in the back circle gives a warm sensation...
Any feedback is welcome.

coredesign: I really like the frog logo that you designed on Sep 13 2003, at 12:54 PM (the top logo, without the "Lawn Care" in a silver box.)
Would you be able to enlarge the "lawn Care" slightly? Also, can you make the grass-like blade that he is hanging on to slightly thicker, just a bit... I like the font and color’s a lot. Also, sorry to keep pestering you  , can you try a "box" around the frog logo? Maybe a background color/box around "AdvanScapes” and another box around the entire logo, or maybe a circle instead of a box. You could extend the grass blade all around...I'd like to see what that looks like. One more thing, is it possible to make the frog a bit more "clear" or sharp?

What is "cmyk"? What are the disadvantages of having a logo with many colors?

<!--QuoteBegin-SeaJay+Sep 17 2003, 02:18 PM--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td>QUOTE (SeaJay @ Sep 17 2003, 02:18 PM)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> What is "cmyk"? What are the disadvantages of having a logo with many colors? [/b][/quote]
CMYK is a printing forumla, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow & Black inks are combined at predetermined angles in order to print in full color. Take a look at any magazine or brochure that is in color and with the aid of a magnifying glass or printers loupe you'll can see that all the images are made up of tiny dots. By varying the size and spacing of the dots printers can reproduce a huge array of colors (not all colors).
Many logos are designed as one or two spot colors, usually specified as PMS colors. PMS stands for Pantone Matching System and is the worldwide leader in specialty inks for printing. There are many colors that can be printed with PMS inks that cannot be printed with stanard CMYK inks.
The potential downside to having a logo available solely as CMYK is cost. When printing, many times part if the price quoted covers the making of "plates". Each color needs it own plate. Therefore for a CMYK image you need four plates (keep in mind that some printers use digital equipment and no longer use plates). Printing CMYK T-shirts (silk screening) can also be more expensive then printing a couple of spot colors.
The advantage to CMYK is the huge range of colors availble compared to spot color. It just sometimes costs a little more. The best advice is to talk with your printer to get price estimates if reproduction costs are of concern. You mentioned shirts and truck signage. Call some local vendors and request quotes comparing process color (another term for CMYK printing) vs. maybe 2 or 3 spot colors.
Most printers accept tints of a PMS color with no extra charge. This means if I sent a logo that contained PMS 539 used at 100%, 50% and 20%, most printers would consider this 1 color. Again, it's very important to talk with your potential vendors as equipment and capabilities can vary widely.
imageconstrux
09-17-2003, 05:06 PM
There's another very important issue to consider when thinking about multi-color logos.
Where in printing a biz card or letterhead, if you use the color blue (or Cyan), you get all the hues of blue. However, if this logo is going on the sides of trucks, and will be done in vinyl, every single shade of blue will need to be cut separately, and ratchet up the cost of your truck signage.
For example - look at my landscpe company logo contest winner (made by El Kootcho) - http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/?showt...7&hl=stonehenge (http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/?showtopic=427&hl=stonehenge)
For truck signage that's a 5 color logo. Red, Black, White, Green and a 2nd shade of Green. Same with printing T-shirts. 5 colors.
If you look at my Ground Trades Xchange logo contest (which by the way, I don't believe you're a member there - go check it out!!): http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/?showt...+trades+xchange (http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/?showtopic=29&hl=ground+trades+xchange) there are 2 browns, 2 greens, possibly 2 oranges, and a white. When I had the hats embroidered, every added color was an added cost.
Just something to keep in mind. Great entries, by the way. Makes me want to have another contest. :D
So it's possible to have an all green logo that come truck signage time, is actually 20 colors.

Huhhso: I really like the top two logos that you entered. Could you try the first top logo (the tree in a circle) in green? Or maybe the tree and lettering two shades of green, or the tree original color and lettering green...
Just G: I like that font much better; really cool logo!
coredesign: approx. how many colors are in the original frog logo?
ElKootcho: Sounds like you really know your stuff! :D Thank you for the help and you have a good point. I will make some calls and get a few estimates on prices. I wonder how much of a difference a 6-7 color logo would make as opposed to a 1-3 color logo. Scenario, if one T-shirt with stitched 3 color logo in front was priced at $30, how much of a price jump would a 6 color logo be? I would guess at $35 for the shirt...If you needed to print up flyers, bills, bus. cards, etc. the dollar amount could really add up $$$.
imageconstrux: Very good point; thanks for your help. I will surely check out the web site, it sounds like a great resource. Thank you.

Typically, which formats are the logos delivered in when chosen? Or, which formats do you send the logos to the buyer in? What is each format used for specifically?

SeaJay - call whomever is your current T-shirt printer and truck signage company. They'll have a set amount they add per color (possibly depending on quantity - 3 dozen T-shirts vs 6 shirts, for example).

Hi!
Don't quote me on this but unless you were to specify exact colours, I have the feeling it isn't a major factor in embroidery pricing - it's usually calculated by actual quantity of stitches.
Can someone confirm/deny this?

To all: I am very impressed with every logo submitted, thank you.
I am hoping that you will be able to submit a few new ideas.
I am looking for something very original and catchy, something that tells the viewer that it is a logo for a lawn care business. simple but catchy. maybe you could integrate the name/lettering into the logo-mark.
new idea/concept: a safari look, or unique grass with logo, or a tree or leaf with measuring marks around it; our motto is "We measure excellence by the yard."
*I think that the font in a logo is very imoportant.
I like the tree frog idea a lot, however, after asking several people about it, some of them did not understand what it was. If the tree frog was more clear and easily viewed, it would be great.
I hope that you will be able to submit some new ideas, thank you for the help.
C.J. :)
Here are a couple more ideas...

Ryan,
Many people did not understand what it was. I can see clearly that it is a frog, however, many customers in my area are elderly or older and may not be able to figure it out. I found the picture online and am not sure who it belongs to. Maybe we can create a new tree frog on the grass blade..?

Gilles Le Bon: I really like this logo: <img src='http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/uploads/post-4-1063653382.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Can you simplify it a bit so that it is not so "crowded"?

Taldo: thanks, I especially like the last color that you posted. Can you think of any other design in place of the green foliage-like mark? I like the current layout, I would'nt want that changed a bit. Also the color is perfect on the last logo. See if you can create a new "mark" to take place of the current.
Thanks.

Yes! I'm working on it :) I will post the changes today. Glad to hear feedback from you. Also, if you want something else added in your design (fonts, colours, etc.), please let me know.
Gilles :)

coredesign: I'm still stuck on the tree frog concept! I really think it would make a good logo. Do you think that we should create a new frog due to legal issue with that original picture that I posted? I would like to see other examples of tree frogs in the same set-up. What do you think?

Hello, here's a revision :)

coredesign: You are awesome! That looks really good. Can you position the frog and grass blades the same way as the last logo (the original tree frog logo), or close to it? Also, can you thicken and darken the "Lawn Care" letters a bit? I love the grass blades--perfect! Is this "vector" as well? Ryan, you are very talented and creative. Thank you so much for all of your hard work. :D

coredesign: Yeah, I see what you are saying...I was hoping to have the frog on top of the lettering, but it looks good under too. Let me know if you are able to turn his head to accomodate the frog on top of the letters. Thanks

Idea! Could you try turning the frogs head so that he could be on top of the lettering, then wrap the grass blade around the "AdvanScapes Lawn Care" forming a not so perfect circle...??

Just a quick observation/question...
Is 2000 views and over 100 responses a record for a $100 design contest?
