5b) What type of look are you trying to achieve? (e.g. clean, high-tech, conservative, warm, flashy, etc.)
As inspiration:
We are located in Skagen, http://www.sailingyachts.com/scandinavia/s_skagen-tip.jpg which is the northernmost town in Denmark and known for a lot of things, for example the Skagen painter; Krøyer, Ancher and more. http://www.dlf.org/evaluering/images/SKAGEN.GIF

It is also known for “Grenen”, the tip of Denmark that has a million visitors a year. Skagen is small and exclusive, the original houses are painted yellow and easily recognizable. We have a lot of fine specialities, among others is “Slagter Munchs Skagen Ham” and “Skagen Design” who makes watches and sunglasses. A lot of cruiseships visit Skagen and the tourists love the romantic setting and the peaceful life here.

There are some symbols in Skagen which most know: Vippefyret: http://www.skagenfotoarkiv.dk/skagen_sommer/target9.html, Old Skagen: http://www.digitalfotoonline.dk/articles/424/org_410.jpg, Bindesbøls houses on the harbour: http://www.skagenfotoarkiv.dk/skagen_havn/target39.html and of course natures which surrounds us all around; the moore, the oceans, the pine forests and the sand dunes: http://www.dancenter.no/index/danmark/feriehus/feriehus-jammerbugten-tannisbugten/feriehus-skagen-a.jpg.

I would like to have the homepage signal the exclusive and peaceful atmosphere of Skagen.

The shop must be with a first page that has a refferrel to the actual shop – like this:
http://www.hesse-winkel.dk/ - the button “Gå til shoppen” will take you to the actual shop. The first page will be like an introduction that tells a little bit about Skagen Smykker.

6b) Please provide the addresses of competitors' sites, if possible:
http://www.pink-orchid.dk/
www.vaiva.dk
http://www.smykkegave.dk/
http://www.wedberg.dk/
http://www.piadaa.dk/
http://www.olliebee.dk/shop/frontpage.html
http://www.merryme.dk/smykker/conditions.php
http://lovepieces.dk/
http://www.golder.dk/

7b) Do you have any images for use in the design of your site? If not, do you have images, can you offer suggestions of what you type of imagery you feel would be most suitable for your website:
Not yet, images suitable will be images that portraits the atmosphere of Skagen and of course jewelry. It is quite ok to use what ever jewelry photos you have if you want to include photos of jewelry. We will then replace them with our own when we have them ready!

Deadlines and Deliverables

1c) What is the deadline for your template design?
July 17th 2007

2c) Will you require HTML coding? (Yes/No) No

I will be on holiday from this friday (30th) and one week. But I look forward to seeing what you have come up with when I get back.
Thank you for your time!

Welcome to Design Outpost,
I need to clarify with you that our Template Designers don't design Logos (minimum for a Logo is $125 in the Logo Forum) We also advise that you run your Logo project first and then your Template project. If you would like I can put this project on HOLD until you have run your Logo project. If you chose to run your Template project then you will not be receiving a Logo with it, and you will have to make your deposit before the Designers will enter their concepts. Also we don't advise that long of a deadline so I have moved it so it will not be forgotten about. We can always extend the deadline if need be. If you have any further questions please contact me at a.robinson @ designoutpost.com

Ok, thank you so much for replying - I thought that I would do this wrong since I have not tried it before :)

EDIT: I edited the text so it fits - my logo can wait, the template is much more important right now.

Now I just need to find out how to deposit the money without it being payed right away :)

Ok, I think I succeded in depositing.

I changed the amount to 300$ since there will be no logo, but the subject still shows 400 - I don't want anyone to think I am trying to cheat - can it be changed please?! :)

Thank you

Hello Mette,

It sure looks beautiful where you live. My fathers family are from Denmark, however I am not quite sure where.

I have read through your requirements and have a few questions.

1. Will you be having a logo designed here? If so, it is much easier for us template designers to create you a template once you have a logo rather than create a template and then you needing to design a logo to suit the template. Your logo (brand) is far more important than the template as a template can then take on the look of your brand.

2. Do you have images that we are allowed to use of your town?

3. Can you show us any examples of your jewellery to help give us more feeling towards how the design could compliment your jewellery.

Thank you

Hello Zoe :)

1. Will you be having a logo designed here? If so, it is much easier for us template designers to create you a template once you have a logo rather than create a template and then you needing to design a logo to suit the template. Your logo (brand) is far more important than the template as a template can then take on the look of your brand.

I was too fast at first - it seems most companies like mine don't use logos - they just use the name if it's good - and mine can't get much better :) So no - no logo!

2. Do you have images that we are allowed to use of your town?

Not yet I'm afraid. But you can always use whatever you can find through my links - I can talk to the people who took the photos about buying them - there are only 3 prof. photographers here so it's shouldn't be any problem.

3. Can you show us any examples of your jewellery to help give us more feeling towards how the design could compliment your jewellery.

www.kasia.dk - in the catallogue the 4th frame is an example.
www.krokade.dk is also an example
and finally - www. lanng.dk is an example
- I haven't received any jewelry yet, but I am working on the supplyer part :)
They will be from simpel, yet elegant to weird, heavy artsy jewelry - I can get some pictures of models with jewelry for the frontpage if anyone wants to use that - so just pick from the net and I'll replace with my own.
I am sorry I can't do better in helping, but it is all so new :)

Thank you

No, thank you

Thank you Mette.

I will start thinking about what I can put together for you.

One last question: would you like the design to be "pretty", "modern" or "elegant"?

Thanks

Zoe

Elegant :)
Thanks!

I apologise for the delay, however I must admit that i was having "designers block". :(

However, an idea sprung to mind today. :)

I look forward to your feedback.

Thanks

Hi Zoe

That happens to me too sometimes.

I really don't think you are very far from what I want - as you have no pictures available, it isn't far from what I want.
The page you have made should not have the product categories - I need a page that is the first thing the costumers see like the one you made and then a layout for the shop.
But your idea gave a me a few questions for the shopmaker - I have no clue to wether categories can be put in top like you have done.
I also need to pick a blue and stick with it.
But your idea is absolutely usable. Could I have you give an idea of what the actual shop will look like?
The structure has to be like: www.hesse-winkel.dk - he too has an "entrance page" where you click "Gå til shoppen" and then come to the actual shop.
It would be nice to see if your beautiful design "carries through" which is very important.

I am going to look for a font since the one you use is not what I am looking for - a bit too "vampy" - I want it to be agile and airy.

Thank you :)

Skagen
07-17-2007, 02:21 AM
Oh I forgot to say: I really like your choice of blue - they are "go" :)

And the pattern that is in the bottom is great - I don't like too much of it, so nothing on the model, but it can maybe carry through to the shop in some way like the small pattern on www.hesse-winkel.dk :)

Do you know the font "Stan's Hand" - it's something like that one I am looking for :)
http://www.defacedfonts.com/fontpages/stanhand.htm

It doesn't have to be that one, but you get my point :)

Hi Mette,

Thank you for the fast feedback. :)

I have made the changes to the home page (see attached) and went searching for some fonts that look similar to the one that you like.

Here is a list of the ones I found but you may wish to look through the site and find one that you would like everyone to use.

www.dafont.com

dafont.com/joyful-juliana.font
dafont.com/goobascript.font
dafont.com/harrison.font
dafont.com/lovitz.font
dafont.com/lizzielongstocking.font
dafont.com/paulson.font
dafont.com/hybi-4-script.font

I'll begin working on the inside.

Here is an idea for the inside page. In order to use the images in the header you would need to get permission from the jeweller.

It was a little harder as I had to try and work out what was what considering I can't read Danish. :)

I'll be happy to add additional elements should you select this design.

Thank you

Zoe

and one incorporating a background image in the header.

Brilliant!

I am however just informed that most of the american audience does not like people in webshops (some highshot american design company states that if you have to sell to rich people, they don't want to see other people in pictures - what do I know, I am Danish)
So the pictures will most like be something like the top pictures on: http://www.skagendesigns.dk, both on the front page and in the shop itself.
You can pick anything from http://www.skagenfotoarkiv.dk/ since it is my brother in laws new photo site - wee :)
I personally like the sea and lyme grass :)

Besides that - I have decided not to show jewelry - as every piece is unique there is no point in showing the costumers something they cannot have.

I am going through the fonts right now - the one you picked is very good, but just to see if there's anything else :)

I'll get back to you :)

Here is the front page.

My only concern (personally) is that other than your name, nothing stands out to me visually that says "Buy Jewellery".

Inside page coming up.

You can swap out the images once new designs arrive.

Here is an idea from me. Of course, pictures can be easily changed. Also, I am not too sure about the content itself. So I just included a welcome text, and some featured product in the main page.I look forward to hear your comments.

Very nice fonts you have found - Lizzielongstocking is nice though the letters dono't have the correct spacing when used - but that could be fixed :)

Very beautiful Brian!

And great work Zoe!

Actually I like Zoes front best (it is airy) and Brians Shop (it is elegant) best - could they somehow be merged into the same design?

But Zoe - you were right about the font - the one you chose is better, though it might lack some edge.

This is much harder than I thought - thanks for doing this with me :)

Hello Mette,

Unfortunately the way that Design Outpost operates is each designer provides you with their own concept. Therefore this means that designers can not "share" another designers concept as we are not working as a "team" on one big project (if you would put it that way).

Each designer's unique concepts remain theirs to develop throughout the project. Feel free to ask individual designers to refine their concepts, or present new concepts, but please refrain from asking them to incorporate another designer's concept into their submission.

We do this in order to present you with a variety of unique designs to choose from rather than several interpretations of one concept.

If you have any questions about this, please contact one of the moderators (as I am involved in the project) or Abby.

Thanks

Zoe

Mette,

In response to the inside page. I had tried to design it using the elements in the shopping cart you said you would be using. If you don't need all these elements please let me know which one's can be removed to simplify the design.

Thanks

I have modified the index page. A bit more "airier" :) Look forward to your comments.

Well, as a matter of fact Zoe - you are right - I cannot leave out any of the things you have put on the page - I like the simpler design, but it leaves out important elements.
Maybe soften edges on the frames and remove the peach color of the cart.
Remove the buttons and just let the categories float alone on the left side.
Please :)

Skagen

Thanks Brian for trying to make it airier :)
I do think however that Zoes design is closer to what I want when looking at it over all :)
I really like your work though, it is very beautiful!

Hello Mette,

At this point, you would select the designer you wish to proceed with and then the project is moved to the revisions forum where you can request further amendments you may require.

Once you are happy with the design, the designer then provides you with the files.

Thank you

Zoe

Hello Zoe :)
Great work so far! I don't like the picture with diamonds so much - Brian used a picture with lyme grass in front and people on a beach - I will go to that place when the tourist season is over and take a picture without any people on it, but could you put the one we have in top instead of the jewels.
What would you say about making the menu white but the letters blue and same font as "Varegrupper"? Would that be too much?
I consider the front done, we only have to do some minor adjustments on the "inner" page :)

Hello Mette,

I have changed the header image and removed the blue from behind the navigation.

However, I haven't changed the font for the navigation due to the fact that I believe it would be easier to manage with the chopping cart system if you leave them as normal text links. The programmer would be able to build those links into the software and then you will be able to edit them if need be.
