Hello again designers! Looking forward to another great logo competition.
Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
weatherintel (all lowercase preferred)
What type of product or service do you offer?
Weather intelligence services. Namely, notification by email and SMS (text message) when your home or business is in the path of a hurricane. However, the logo should be broad enough not to be hurricane-specific
How long have you been in business?
Our historic business, OneStorm has been around for 2+ years (see http://www.onestorm.org/). WeatherIntel is a related application, but kept separate for various reasons.
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
Introduce a new application that crosses over into a very Web 2.0 design style and level of interactivity. Think of the "Mashable.com" featured site caliber.
What are your long term goals?
Provide individuals and businesses with real-time weather intelligence that leads them and their employees to safety.
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
The deadline is August 20th. However, I've seen our chosen logo after just a few days in previous competitions.
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
We have 3 audiences: individuals, businesses, cities/counties. Disaster preparedness and notification hits on all three of those levels. Generally, we provided our services to individuals for free, and offer premium services with added features for the other two audiences.
Who would you like to add to your audience?
Companies/sites that are already providing weather forecasts to users, where our intelligence would enhance their services
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
Please see my weak attempts at a logo. I believe it captures the style. Think Web 2.0. It may be cliche, but you know what I mean, right? :)
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
I like the colors in the attached logo... which were inspired by http://billshare.org/. Blue to me is a common *weather* color, which contrasts nicely with the grey. Grey skies/blue skies, etc.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
Yes. I would like a weather-related icon in the logo, but the initial feedback on my attempt was that the storm cloud used was *too weak.* I don't want just a hurricane symbol, but we need something that looks a little more threatening. I'm open to seeing multiple symbols incorporated though (tornado, hurricane, flood, etc.) if you have an idea around that.
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
New technology, Web 2.0 web application, robust weather intelligence
What is your tagline or slogan?
None that we wish to incorporate in the logo, but we've loosely used the tagline, "There's knowing your risk, and there's knowing your risk even sooner."
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
We deliver accurate, real-time weather intelligence that keeps you and your business safe.
Where will your new logo be used?
Mainly on the website, but also on a mobile phone interface, tradeshow displays, brochures, etc.
Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
This is a relatively new field, so there aren't many competitors worth mentioning, but I don't think most logos live up to the caliber of what I see here on DO.
List competitive URLs if possible
http://www.weather.com/services/notify.html
What sets you apart from your competitors?
Accuracy, through our relationship with organizations such as the National Hurricane Center. Immediacy, through real-time alerting based on current forecasts. Usability, add your location(s), add your contact point(s), and you're done.
Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Know immediately when you're at risk
