(Admin code added by Palmer - 2X9081442V0615421)
Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Wayne Maki Photography
What type of product or service do you offer?
All types of photography, but the focus is weddings.
How long have you been in business?
2 years
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
Appeal to a higher end client, create a recognizable brand and consistent style.
What are your long term goals?
To continue to grow my photography business and branch out into destination weddings
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
August 24 2007
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Couples looking for a wedding photographer, parents wanting baby pictures, some commercial clients, models adding to portfolios.
Who would you like to add to your audience?
I want to appeal to sophisticated clients, same sex couples, clients interested in a “green” photographer, couples who appreciate unique wedding photography.
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
Unsure, as I don't currently have one to compare to. Something uncluttered, not too busy.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
Leaning towards a dove gray, cream and blue color scheme for the website, so two or more of these colors. They are subdued and elegant.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
No, but I really want to stay away from the clichéd images that people use to connote “Earth friendly” or “green” such as a picture of the globe.
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
Personal attention given to each client, reliability, a fresh and creative outlook, artistic (but not stuffy) images
What is your tagline or slogan?
None currently.
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
That I will give them a beautiful and unique wedding album and a hassle-free experience.
Where will your new logo be used?
Website, business cards, client paperwork
Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
See below
List competitive URLs if possible
www.KristenTaylorPhotography.com Her site and logo are classy and accessible
www.mod4.com The logo is hip and clean
www.vaughnimages.com I like this logo because it is recognizable and easier to add to things than a full name
www.samsarkisphotography.com I do not like this logo, it looks outdated to me
What sets you apart from your competitors?
My albums are completely vegan. I am easy going, but very reliable and professional
Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Artistic but accessible
I am in the process of revamping the website, but for an idea of what my work looks like, go to www.waynemaki.com. I aim for hip but not cheesy.
Thank in advance!

elogonics, thanks for the quick response!
I like the idea of the entwined W and M, but I think this looks too harsh, especially the B&W version which looks a lot like XXXX.
Also, maybe a 'bluer' blue? Perhaps less teal and more of a steel blue.
Thanks again!

Wow, thank you for all of the awesome replies! Sorry I've been so long in responding, it's been a busy weekend. I think my favorite so far is elogonics.
Blesseville, I'm finding that one too harsh, not accessible. It looks to me like something that a manufacturer would have, and I want something a little warmer.
Unorthodox, unfortunately for me, my initials are the same ones for "waste management", and that logo looks similar to the one on the garbage trucks around here. :P I like the second and third more than the first, can we try both with slimmer lines?
pracus, I'd like to look at this one for a day or so, it's neat but I want to look at it a little more.
Thank you so much for the effort, everyone!

quetizo, it's Maki, not Y. This one is similar to the first in this thread, it looks too much like a random zig-zag for me.
Thank you for the submission!

Thanks for the designs all! I'm really liking a couple of these, and would like to perhaps see a couple of changes.
There are 3 or 4 that I have my eye on, elegonics version 2 and 3, pracus version 1, Unorthodox version 6, and DraganB's version 1.
Elegonics: Can I see slightly thicker lines on the extended portions of the W and M of version 2, and maybe have it more integerated with the text? Maybe on top of the text and smaller in relation to the text. I'm feeling like it's too seperate.
For version 3, I'm getting the same feeling of the logo being seperate from the text, any suggestions? Also, can I see the W and M in taller, rather than wide letters?
Pracus:I like the idea here, is there another design to try for the initials? I like the font of the text alot.
Unorthodox:I like the concept, but the curly letters remind me of a tribal tattoo. Can you open the curly ends of the W and M?
DraganB:I really like that the W and M are part of one design. I also love the font, and the justification of the word "photography". The only problem I'm having with this design is that it reminds me of the Barcardi logo. Any suggestions?
I really appreciate everyone's work here, there's a lot of great stuff to choose from!

So many great replies since last night! Thanks, everyone, for the efforts.
Can I see Blesseville version 2 with a different style of "WM"? This one is too casual for me. It makes me think of spray paint or something scrawled.
Elogonics, I like the thicker lines that you did for version 4. Can you put a line under "Wayne Maki" and either stretch the word "photography" to fit under my name or place it to the right?
Pracus, I liked the "raggedness" of your first version, version 2 seems too slick. Would you try something similar to version 1 with more recognizable initials? Thank you :)
Unorthodox, I love the shadow idea! Would you put it in a circle so I can see what that looks like? Is it possible to straighten the "M" without making the W and M into a zig-zag? If not, I understand! I like the font and the underline on version 12, but not the initials.
OffbeatDesign, I loved version 6 when I first saw it, but then I realized that it's really similar to a competitor's website that I linked to. Do you have another font to try with the same layout? Version 7 in a different font, as well. I like the design, but the font is too embellished.
DraganB, would you mind trying one more thing for me? I like the idea of the single character W and M so much, but this one is too masculine for me, it looks bat-like. Can you put the curvier symbol from your first version into the diamond from version 2? I'd love to see any other ideas you have, I like your work!
I appreciate everyone's time so very much, this is a hard decision because there's so much to choose from!

This is such a hard choice! Right now I've got it narrowed down to elogonics version 5 and DraganB, version 3, 5 or 6. I can't think of any changes I'd like to see other than some color tweaks, but I'll be in touch!

Okay, this was an incredibly hard decision that almost came down to flipping a coin, but after mulling it over for a few days, I've decided that I want to go with elogonics version 5.
I'm going to be out of town for a few days, so I'll meet you in the revisions forum next week for some color tweaks? I'll take a look at the pantone chart and see what shades I like for the logo.
Thank you so much, everyone, for your hard work and all of the time you've put into designing a logo for me! I'll be recommending this forum to everyone I know who needs design work, you're awesome!

Hi, I'm back and ready for revisions!
I've chosen pantone # 291 CS for the blue, # 424 CS for the gray, and #3935 CS for the cream. What I'd like to try is different combinations of those colors, starting with blue initials, cream circle and line, and gray text. I'd also like to see solid cream circle with gray initials and line and blue text.
If you have any suggestions for a better shade of cream, please share them, I'm not in love with the one I chose but it's the least yellow that I found. Ideally, I'd like something lighter, but I don't know how that would work into the logo.
If it's just not working with all three colors, we'll just use the gray and blue.
Also, can the text be seperated from the circle so that I can use them independent of each other?
Eager to see what this turns out like!

Here's my revision as requested.
Yes, I can give you files for the icon only, and another for the text.

Elogonics,
Sorry for the delay in my reply, and thanks for your quick response. The color that I thought was cream turned out to be a yellow, and I'm going to drop that alltogether. We'll stick with blue and grey only.
I'd like the shade of grey to be one or two shades lighter, and the shade of blue to be one shade darker, but not too much.
Other than that, we're pretty close to being done here. I'd like to see a couple versions with the 'Wayne Maki' blue, and the 'photography' grey. I also like the solid circle behind the initials.
Thanks again for your quickness!

Allright, I think that version 5.4, set B is the one! Thanks so much for working with me on this.
I'd like to get a file for the whole logo, as well as seperate files for the text and the initials if possible. I'd also like each of those in black and white. I really like the b&w file with the solid background for the initials.
Which file formats are available to me? I'm a photographer, so I'm used to working with PSD and JPGs, but I'd also like something that's vector based. Let me know what you can provide.
Thanks again so much!
