What's up everyone. My name is Devon and i'm a Design Outpost virgin. Be gentle. But firm.
My girlfriend and i are in the process of launching a new company this year and we want someone from Design Outpost to design the all important logo.
So, first of all, with this company in particular, the logo is a really big deal because we are going to be asking our clients to essentially "brand themselves" with it. In other words, in many of the products we produce we'll be having them intentionally go into "trance states" and then associate the image with the state they develop. It will be very cool to say the least...
I've spent the better part of my life learning and developing cutting edge applied behavioral technologies and working to make the behavioral strategies of geniuses and gurus available to everyone.
I go from the low brow (talking about sex and at colleges in order to turn people on to how their nervous systems work - www.SexWithDevon.tv) to the high brow (the "under construction" world's first encyclopedia of operational neurology - www.principianeurologica.com).
Viral Evolution Media (Viral) is the next step in this....
Now i'm going to do my best to answer the questions in the worksheet below while adding in things that are relevant to getting a symbol that yearns to be integrated into people's minds and bodies.
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Alright there are three main parts of this logo.
1. The logo or symbol
2. The name of the company: (Viral Evolution Media)
3. The tagline: ( i am evolving)
I would like the symbol to stand on its own. I don't really care to brand people with the name of the company cause that's not what this is about. It's about a symbol that every time they see it - reminds them of who they are at their best.
That said, i want to be able to put the company logo and the tagline with the symbol and have them all look good together. I'd also like the logotype for the company name and the tagline to look hot on their own.
What type of product or service do you offer?
Viral Evolution Media is a 21st century broadcast company. As a company and as a group of individuals Viral Evolution Media thrives on moving the social system forward. in a positive direction. We do this by crossing cutting edge behavioral technologies, with high caliber information and early adopter technology bringing end-users information in ways they’ve never experienced before- information that will change the way they experience learning forever. We’re wiring the messages of greatest success directly into the hearts, brains and behaviors of our global community.
We offer training and consulting, video blogs, cutting edge information products as well as marketing help for individuals with powerful personal or corporate messages in line with our mission.
How long have you been in business?
3 months in this current incarnation. We've been producing videos for about 6 months and delivering trainings and consultations for over a decade.
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
See above. ;)
In addition to that i want a hypnotic, powerfully branded symbolic representation of our message and intent. I want people to know in their bones that they are evolving every time they see this logo. (Don't worry we'll be helping to get them to feel this way through our products - but i need a truly awesome visual container for the experience we're developing with people.
What are your long term goals?
To become a hugely successful broadcast media company.
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
August 23rd.

Please describe your existing audience
The people i consult with, train, perform for, and who watch my videos range from college students, to a wide age range of people interested in personal enlightenment and yoga. Current audience also includes early adopters, tech savvy hipsters and zaadsters (www.zaadz.com).
Who would you like to add to your audience?
More of the same that we've already got. We're targeting an intelligent, savvy, 18-40 year old demographic. The older LOHAS demographic also has some appeal to us.
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
Alright here's the thing - i have lots of ideas. That's part of why i came to design outpost. The themes that most appeal to me are evolution, dna, memetics, the idea of a global nervous system and our personal connections to and in it, and Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man.
I like all of those things but i think that trying to encompass all of those ideas would probably miss the mark - so i want something that speaks clearly and forcefully about one thing. I want it to speak to people about the SIngularity of who they are at their best. I want them to want to remember how awesome they can be every time they see this symbol.
If it's hypnotic, perceptually interesting or even perhaps an optical illusion of sorts - that would be great. But again - unnecessary.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
a metallic silver would be cool but honestly i'm open to anything.
I have a modern, simple, clean aesthetic.

Again, think in the direction of the dna symbol, alex gray, the da vinci man and possibly a positive virus.

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
I want them to feel themselves evolving when they see the symbol. (I keep referring to the logo as a symbol because that's what i want to develop it into. Ultimately it will be kind of like a peace sign - but people will deliberately access the meaning and somatic experience of their own personal best/evolution when they see it.)
For me the point is this: Broadcast media is a very powerful thing. There are lots of people out there using it for lots of different things. Very few of them are using it to help people stay rigorously present to the world and their own personal sense of integrity. i want to change that. This symbol is one of my first and most foundational tools.
Where will your new logo be used?
It will be used on our new website as well as in our information products. At some point we may have it animated. Ultimately, as people begin to really give positive feedback that they are using the symbol and its working for them - we're going to begin broadcasting it in more public spaces from banner ads to billboards and web videos.

Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
n/a - i wouldn't even want to taint your mind with the weakness that is other people's logos that i see in the personal enlightenment info-product industry. Same with video blogs.

n/a - if you don't have some sense of that after reading my Gone with the Wind design worksheet - you're probably not going to get it and i'm probably incapable of giving it.
