We are looking for the following:
Product labeling for a liquid nutritional supplement that is
geared towards fighting acne. This will be used for premium
printing so we would need to be at least 300DPI.
We're looking for a layout that gives a professional spa/salon
style appeal to the product, a clean crisp layout. Something
that s-c-r-e-a-m-s out a HIGH-END beverage purchase while at
the same time giving the 'feel' of a natural product.
Competing products, as far as look - feel - appeal, would be
Monavie (http://www.monavie.com), Xango (http://www.xango.com/), Mangoxan (http://www.purefruittechnologies.com/mangoxan/). New Vision's (http://www.newvision.com/product_category.asp?catId=1&newProd=N&catpage=9) Forte product looks
very nice too (as well as their Essential Vitamins layout). We're
looking for that type of image/appeal for our layout.
>>> Colors:
We're looking for something that will go well with our logo.
Download it here
(2.26mb ZIP archive that includes EPS/PSD/TIF logo layouts).
>>> Size:
5.5" high x 8.5" wide
>>> Requested artwork format:
.PSD (also .EPS format if possible, not required)
Please display the finished layout designs on bottles to get
an idea of how the product would look to one of our clients.
The finished product will have a dark coloring (i.e. deep
grape) to it, for those of you that may use stock photos w/
glass bottles (we're not sure if we'll be using a clear
plastic or glass bottle or a white plastic bottle for the
final product update).
**We're hoping that you'll have some 'stylish' bottling (image)
options available to use to display the labeling/product.**
I don't have access to any stock images that may be used for
this purpose, but here are a few links I have found online
that provide something that may be useful for some:

>>> Ideas for things to include:
-100% All Natural
-No Refined Sugar
-Contains no artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners
-Great Tasting
-Kosher, Vegan and Gluten FREE!
-Low Carb
-Low Calorie
-Ingredients/Nutritional Facts box (small to medium size)
Please leave space for a section that we can use to add
some descriptive text about the product above?
-Maybe some fruit images: We'll be including all natural fruit
juices within the formula (grape, apple, pear, blueberry,
strawberry, etc.) ... maybe even add some water splash
effect or something that kind of gives it the "fresh" look?
After seeing some initial submissions there will be a few more
text/copy ideas to add I am sure. We're very interested in
seeing some initial concepts that will allow us to get an idea
as to what else we can add to the overall layout.
Thanks in advance. We're looking forward to reviewing your ideas
and concepts. Please do not hesitate to PM/post any questions that
you may have.
Jack :)
Project Update: The project deposit has been raised $190 and the deadline has been extended to 9/13/2007.
Please reread the project summary since the Client has made some revisions. If you will be entering please post a message stating that. Thank you

I would happily give a try to this project, but I work in Adobe Photoshop, so the final fie would be a PSD format...and I saw you require an EPS also..

Virgil,
Thanks for your post. I have modified the project requirements
to include the .EPS format as optional. We apologize for exclu-
ding you (and others) with this initial requirement. We look
forward to seeing your design(s) & concept(s).
djaka,
Thanks for your post as well. We like your initial design, it gives
up a good feel for what the final layout will look like for this
project. We like the copy split up the way it is (w/ the sidebars
on both sides of the labeling. The spacing above & below the
nutrition facts panel is great as we'll need a place to include
"Suggested use" (above) and "Additional ingredients:" (below)
this section. We'll be able to supply the added text closer to
completion of the project. For now, the use of filler text, other
than the middle/main part of the logo, is fine. The modified
logo layout would be centered within the middle panel.
For the logo, please try breaking it up so that the graphic
image (above the name) is to the left and have the name to
the right. We're going to lose the "SKINCARE REGIMEN" portion
as this will be used solely for the topical products. Also, the
overall size of the logo can be smaller. These changes should
allow for more room in the middle panel. For now, let's try
ANTI-ACNE SUPPLEMENT, with it smaller to fit within the area?
The ANTI-ACNE SUPPLEMENT wording should be changed to
a dark purple color as well. It will go well with the color of
the product that will be visible to our clients (clear bottles).
Below I will suggest a lighter color background...as I know
you must be thinking black label w/ dark purple text......what?
The water looks great, excellent touch. Can we try a version
of this for the side panels (or throughout the entire label?) and
see how this looks? (even if it is slightly faded out on the side
panels so that that customers can easily read the text).
The apple looks good. We wanted to add other fruits as well,
as the following fruit juices will be used: Apple, Grape - purple,
Orange, Pear, Pineapple, Cherry, Pomegranate, Strawberry,
Blueberry, Raspberry, and Mango. I am not sure if all would
look good/acceptable within the layout...either in the middle
panel or broken up over entire layout...but it will give you an
idea of the options available.
We like the way the black background stresses the green
color of the logo and copy. However, after some initial feed-
back there was a concern for the final product appeal (after
the juice has been added). The final product will be a dark
purple color. The were thoughts that the darker layout would
ultimately not be as visually appealing as a lighter layout once
the juice has been added.
For the "Apple Flavour" copy...can we try this (w/o quotes):
"100% Vegan & Gluten FREE - Low Carb - Low Calorie"
Please replace (-) w/ the bullets, they look great. The text
may need to be smaller than it is make this work? If this looks
good than we'll be getting removing these text blocks from
the middle of the layout as well. [25oz / 750ml will be used on
bottom of middle panel]
BTW, if we tighten up the middle portion of this layout with
the ideas given above would adding another "100% Vegan..."
to the right side of the layout look more appealing? I guess
the idea is that this will be wrapping around a bottle and
we don't want the middle panel to spread too wide across the
front and not allow the main/middle window to catch the
consumer's eye.
We'll probably put the "Contains no...sweeteners" line of
copy at the bottom of the Nutrition Facts sidebar.
----------
Thanks for your submissions. We're looking forward to seeing
your revisions and any added concepts that you may come
up with for this project.

Hello Jack,
Here's my first submission to your project. My design is centered around the concept that the label could be changed in color (water splash mainly) to match every color palette chosen from all individual fruit drinks. Here, I posted a variation with the strawberry. The bottle, of course, is not the one the final design will be placed on, but it's just a suggestion.
Thank you,
Virgil.

Virgil,
That layout looks really nice. I have already received some
initial feedback and they like the lighter background much
better. Also, the lighting effect (not sure what you call that
in designer jargon) behind the text on the side panels is an
excellent touch as this coloring, against the backdrop of the
purple liquid inside the bottle, should look great together.
I like the idea of being able to change the coloring of the
liqui/water splash. That will come in VERY handy for future
flavor versions of our product.
The first product we're going to release will have a grape
coloring to it, can we modify this layout to reflect that? Also,
even though it will be grape colored, there will be other fruits
included. Do you have any pics you can use of these fruits:
Apple, Grape - purple, Orange, Pear, Pineapple, Cherry,
Pomegranate, Blueberry, Raspberry, and Mango. I am not sure
if most people will be able to identify a Pomegranate or a
Mango by site of the fruit on the bottle so they don't have
to be included.
We're going to discuss what we can do with the middle
panel (regarding the text used). With this layout we want
to add more, and modify what's there, but do not want to
make it too busy.
With regards to the logo, can you try the suggestion that I
had given to djaka. Here is what I had requested be changed:
"For the logo, please try breaking it up so that the graphic
image (above the name) is to the left and have the name to
The ANTI-ACNE SUPPLEMENT wording should be changed to
a dark purple color as well." The only thing I forgot to add to
this change is that the "|" should be changed to dark purple
as well as to not throw of the rest of the image.
Thanks again Virgil. Your first attempt is very impressive as
well. We appreciate your hard work.

Hello Jack,
I appreciate the extended feedback :) Here are the changes, focusing on the grapes. The Grey gradient (the lighting effect) will make a good contrast with every color used for the different fruits. I will try to find photos of the fruits you need, I will work on other variations of this one. I am waiting for your decisions for the middle of the panel regarding the text.
Again, thank you Jack,
Virgil.

Virgil,
The purple looks so much sweeter, doesn't it! With the lighter
background the grape coloring seems to send a better message.
Curious to see how other fruits would look when
they're added....more colorful? too colorful/busy?
We definitely have to come up with something for the middle
panel. We may need to go back to the first version of the
logo (in your first design layout)....just a little smaller I guess
as the size was too big in the first one (not too much smaller).
Actually, we should have more of the text we plan on using
for the panels as well within the next 48 hours or so. Our
main objective is to get the layout to a certain point since
plugging the text in is the easy part.
In the right panel, where you have "It's all you've....for", can
you condense this to 2 lines and place one of the green
separator lines that you have on the left panel?
The layout is coming along nicely Virgil. We're looking forward
to seeing it progress over the next 3-4 days.
djaka,
We're anxiously awaiting your revisions (and ideas) as well. We
hope you're still considering this project....?
Thanks for all your hard work,
Jack :D

Virgil,
The new layout looks nice. We're awaiting feedback as to
which of the 2 layouts is more preferred. Thanks for adding
the extra (green) line to the right panel...it looks good. We
should have some sample text to add to the middle and sides
within the next day or so. I am sure this text will change a
few times before we have the labels printed, but we can
always change the text layers on our end once we see the final
layout we're going to be using (and realizing our boundaries).
The added fruit definitely brings out more color. Depending on
feedback maybe we'll use just a few added 'pieces' and not
have it too busy...? I really like the colored water splash and
water layer in the background. I guess we'll see what is said.
djaka,
Thanks for your follow-up post. We'll keep an eye out for your
revisions. We look forward to hearing from you.

djaka,
Thanks for your latest revision, we're glad you're still on board
with us. We have reviewed your latest design as well as gath-
ering feedback & here's what we've discussed/been told:
1. We would like to go with a lighter background....even if it
ultimately meant going with a white background if need be. The
final product, as least for the first version, is going to be grape
and this will not look as appealing with a black label...not for
our needs anyway...maybe if it was a wine or something?
2. We like the idea of the added fruit, however, there would
need to be a bunch of grapes, at least, to go along with the
taste and look of the final product.
3. The water splash is a good touch but on the sides panels
it would need to either fade out or go into the background so
that the text can be read easily by our clients.
4. Please read Message #11 regarding the logo portion of the
middle panel.
Those were the main areas of discussion regarding the feed-
back we had received.
Virgil,
We have received both positive and negative feedback with
the added fruit. The only negative things really conveyed were
that the layout is becoming too "busy" & they liked the way
the water splashed and spread across the entire layout and
this could no longer be seen.
What we'll do then, if we go with your design, is to use
the water splash (and water along the bottom of the entire
layout) focusing on the color of the water/splash with the
primary fruit flavoring we're using for that version...?
So, for now, let's go back to the version you had posted in
Message #10...with the added green bar and logo mods you
had added to Message #12. Also, for now, let's change
"ANTI-ACNE" to ACNE SHOTS with a trademark (TM)...the TM
would be smaller and set as superscript (?). Please bold-face
the ACNE-SHOTS and the TM to make it separate from the
SUPPLEMENT wording as well...just to get an idea of how it
would look.
Thanks again djaka and Virgil...we appreciate your hard work!

Virgil,
That looks very good. The changes are real nice. Other than
one or two changes that is exactly what we are looking for...
1. The serving size is .5 fl oz
2. Here's what we were trying to do w/ the macronutrients box.
We're looking to have it line up in a way so that the
ingredient listing below will also have the g/mg concentrations
and % daily values line up with the listings in this box:
http://www.bflawless.com/images/do.gif
3. Let's take away the boldfaced type for the (2) proprietary
blends (and the concentrations). It looks like we'll need as
much space as we can get in order to work out #4 below.
4. After looking at the design I guess we'll need to move the
mg counts to the left slightly so that they align with the Per
Serving column in the macronutrients box above....? Then,
justified right just put 00% for the % Daily Value column for
the ingredient listings below the macronutrients box.
5. Let's remove the entire line for the "Grape Seed Extract"
ingredient below. Please add "grape seed extract" to the
Proprietary Antioxidant Blend listing of ingredients as the
first ingredient listed. After removing this line we should be
able to lower the top half of the left panel slightly so that
it aligns with the right panel.
6. For the middle panel, let's try adding:
100% All Natural [bullet] Tastes Great (centered)
Low Carb, Low Calorie Fruit Drink (centered)
** The 2 lines above centered in middle panel. Also, [please
add a slightly bigger spacing between these lines than the
spacing that is being used right now
** Put "30 FL OZ (900 ML)" smaller text, @ bottom
above the grape/water splash (centered)
Please forgive the long posts/replies that I put up. I am
just trying to get as much info into your hands in hopes to
cut down the back and forth needed and help speed up
the process giving you what you need all in one shot.
BTW, thanks for uploading a larger image to this thread. It's
better to look at and gives us a better look at everything.

Virgil,
The changes look real nice...thanks for your prompt replies.
I have a couple more changes to the left panel that I will
submit in a short while.
I wanted to ask you a question...a complete designer newbie
question, so please bear with me (hehe).
When this project is completed and if we go with (and receive)
the finished files from you, is the following scenario possible...
I was just informed that due to bottling changes we may need
to (initially) go with a 4x6 layout. Without losing resolution, is
there a way for me to use the files you send me to modify the
new size needed (whether it be 4x6 or something close to it)
and keep everything in proportion within the layout...again
without messing around with any resolution issues?
Thanks again Virgil,
Jack :D
Virgil
09-12-2007, 08:41 AM
Hello Jack,
From what I can see now, resolution is not a problem in this case, since the layout would be downsized from 8,5X5,5 inches to 4X6 inches. Once the final changes would be approved and all the changes made to the design, I can provide a .PSD layered file so the layers will be mobile. You will be able to move different layers around to fit your new dimensions, and I think you will be able to keep the whole layout into proportion too. Again, there won't be any resolution loss to the file.
Thank you, Virgil.

Great, excellent news. I have worked with shrinking some
images for web use in the past without much resolution
change but when it comes to needing to keep a very high
resolution fro printing purposes i didn't want to risk anything.
Thanks for getting back to me on that...greatly appreciated

djaka,
We have received the feedback from your latest revision.
While many liked the creativity with the background and
the rounded corner graphic touches for the side panels,
most thought it was too busy with the various shapes
in the middle of the layout...along with the large array of
fruits included as well.
We want to THANK YOU for your hard work and efforts in
trying to open up different options/concepts for us.
At this time we're leaning more towards Virgil's design. The
feedback, overall, is preferring what he has put together
for us...up until now. Many of the changes we have request-
ed have been worked into his layout nicely and we've been
able to see them very quickly.
Since we'll be closing down this project within the next
couple of days (unless something comes up) I wanted to
send you a quick note to THANK YOU again for your
efforts.
We'll be posting another project sometime within the next
week or two. This will be for some type of brochure or
sales letter layout. Hopefully we'll hear from you then...?
