Design Outpost Creative Brief Worksheet – Creek Audio Works

Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Creek Audio Works

What type of product or service do you offer?
Custom Audio/Video Design, Sales & Project Management. We specialize in high-end residential construction projects (hi-end custom homes). We design the multi-room audio system, home theatre system & video distribution system. We provide flat panels TVs, audio equipment, and accessories. We project manage the installation.

How long have you been in business?
I have been in this business for 30 years. Creek Audio Works is a new business venture.

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
To market my services with the right image to new customers and to provide marketing materials that stand out as does the quality of our work.

What are your long term goals?
To grow the brand and the business over the next five years into a strong position for resale.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
I’m not sure what is reasonable to get quality results. 14 days?

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Local hi-end custom builders & their customers. The home buyers (end-users who write the cheque) are typically between 45-70, educated, cultured, and wealthy.

Who would you like to add to your audience?
More of the same and also market local home designers, the building trades, and the end –user.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
Simple. Strong enough to stand on its own without words to convey an emotional message about the beauty of music. Speaks of quality and professionalism. The image demonstrates creativity and imagination. An interesting image that attracts the eye and the imagination. An image that speaks to you quietly and interests you in the company behind it…. a logo (round?) that would work well on T-shirts or Golf Hats.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
Nothing bright that hints of “Big Box Discount” like yellow. My specific image below is water so of course blue needs to be considered but not necessary in my mind. I like the deep reddish purple of a monks robe, copper tones, terracotta like tones….. not set on anything…. so go for it

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
Yes I would like an image of the circular ripple of water caused when a pebble is dropped in. A single music note would be what touches the water to create the ripples. I have enclosed a rough idea. I invision a pho style or computer generated image (I think) to a “drawing” or line art.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
Your relationship with Creek Audio Works will be a quality customer experience.

What is your tagline or slogan?
None I can commit to right now but these three words keep floating around. –Exceptional, Entertainment, Experience……

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
We are a solid, capable, and creative company worthy of supplying the electronic amenities in their new home. Music matters…

Where will your new logo be used?
On all marketing materials including hats, shirts & decals.

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
Big specialty companies from out of town with “ok” logos but superb marketing materials. Local competitors focus on a lower end customer and their logos reflect that.

List competitive URLs if possible

What sets you apart from your competitors?
Experience, Professionalism, Quality of goods and service, selling and communications skills.

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Exceptional Entertainment Experience

Here is a ripple/speaker/machinery association to replace cheesy (imho) music note and further deliver clear message and strong brand.

Hi,
I am not sure what the exact process is but I assume I should give the feedback on your suggestions now. In general I was looking for a natural looking Zen pool with a music note touching the water and causing the ripple. The water ripples are the predominant image and the music note I invisioned was small and had just fallen like a leaf into the pool. nhr captured that thought best in Version1 and i would like to see it with a smaller note (not sure about the yellow). Can the pool be tilted up to be more circular?

Blesseville's concept empahsises CREEK and I need to think about that, but prefer equal weighting on all three words in the company name. The note thing is very stylish but I want it to be recognized as a simple music note. I am still looking for recognizable water ripples. So it just doesnt work for me yet.

logoholik's offering just doesnt say anything to me. The circular image is just that.... no message in the image at all for me...

so i'm still stuck on the note/ripple thing.... it is about a message I want to send through the visual... that music (the note) creates an appealing harmony when it touches your world (the water)..... kind of the opposite of the famous Maxell image of a guy sitting in front of big speakers getting his hair and tie blown back ......

hope that helps, thanks , Tom

A gentle mark that utilizes the letter "C" in a music note and splashes.

Hi Folks,
Maybe I have limited your ideas by holding on to set vison of the note/water ripple thing. I saw it like a high res picture, like the examples I enclosed with a note that fit. I am not stuck there. On that note I kind of like the diff look from Castell. Can you get a water pool in there lol? I do like the simplicity of the last one from e-logonics....I took some white-out and made the note look like it sank a bit in the inner circle and prefer that. Can something spin off the cool pool you have and "stream over to connect the compnay name? Deanna, the notes in CREEK don't work for me but I like "audio works"... As far as djaka, skyvee and giant... I can oly see happy face icons and don't see a logo concept???

I have enclosed another image (owned by others)that I like and think tells a story with subtle style.... knock your socks off.

Should I have a tag line incorporated in logo??? ie:.....
"Exceptional Entertainment Experience" or something.... go ahead and outline a spot for a tag if you think it would help the impact of the design...

Thanks, Tom

Dewa Jaya ... I like this last one - Version2. The cool circle graphic behind the note does not seem to work well when in B&W. Tom

Dewa, I like this last one best. Version2.3. I think it might be cool if the two wiggly lines did not enter into the smallest circle that the note touches... the inner circle just white..... might be fun to play with that note... maybe tilt it so it joins with the C in CREEK... So far this last version of yours is the one I would most like to work with, thanks Tom

I have decided to choose Dewa Jaya as the person to complete logo design project for Creek Audio Works. All contributions from the other designers were valuable and very much appreciated. Thank You. I appreciate the work you put into it.

I'm not sure of the proper process from here but expect I will be in contact with Dewa to discuss ways we may be able to fine-tune the logo concept presented to make it the best it can be.

Hi Dewa,
Sorry for the delay. We had a meeting to discuss the logo and the company name. Let's choose Version 2.4 as the starting point for the revision. The revision is pretty simple. #1 Replace the word "WORKS" with the word "VIDEO" so the logo name will be "Creek Audio Video". #2 Add three words as a tag line...Exceptional Entertainment Experience. I would like to be able to use the logo with and without the tag line but for the most part the tag would be part of the logo.

Can you send me your ideas on how this could look with the name change and tag line.
Thanks,
Tom

Hi Dewa,
We are getting very close. Please add an s onto the tag line word "experience". I would like it to say "Exceptional Entertainment Experiences" No more changes needed to the words.

I prefer version "a" (with the tag in grey) from an artistic point of view and think the grey tag adds better balance. It is very hard to read in grey however when I print on paper to look at. I'm not sure if it will be easier to see when printed from a higher res file. Could the tag be a bit darker but still that same shade?

The tag line looks a little "heavy" to me in that font. Would italics ( or something else) help set the tag apart a bit more from the other larger words above? .. CREEK AUDIO VIDEO and the music note are both simple and bold (I like it). The "pool" and "ripples" are softer and less bold as is the grey line under CREEK (I like it). I think if the tag line is grey it should be softer and more like the grey pool & ripples. Do you have any ideas about that? What is your idea?
Thanks, Tom

Hi Dewa,
I choose Version 2.9 "a". The one with the original font you suggested in that darker shade. I am satisfied. Thank you for your good work. I guess you send me the files now? I don't know much about file types so I enclosed this message from my local printer...

"All files should be RGB. If they are CMYK do not convert to RGB. Leave as CMYK.
If unsure, don't worry. Keep all files in their native format. You can send what ever you have.
If you are laying out the design and I am not to adjust then a PDF is a good format to use.
Otherwise Illustrator is good, I can print and use files of most any kind.
Corel or Adobe are my preferred software."
Thank you, Tom
