This contest is to freshen up the look of 4 brochures. The brochures are single sided and will not be full bleed for the reason that we want our resellers (office equipment dealers) to be able to easily print these with their own printers, and have them look professional without having to worry about cutting them, etc. If you look at the current brochures, they have a border around them which makes them look good printed without the bleed. You should use a similar technique.

Right now each brochure has a black and white picture on it. I would like to replace these pictures with similar, color ones, as I think color will better suit our new letterhead. You can use any photos from istockphoto.com for this and I’ll buy them after if you win.

The 4 current brochure files can be found in this doc:

http://www.printaudit.com/ARRS_brochures.doc

Since the brochures are all very similar, for the sake of this contest you only have to redesign 1 brochure (pick any one), and the checklist. If you’re chosen as the winner I will have you format the rest of the brochures also.

The look of the brochures should be based on the style of this brochure:

http://printaudit.com/downloads/pdf/Print_Audit_Facilities_Manager_Brochure.pdf

You don’t have to adhere to it too strictly though, since it may be hard to make that style look good without making it full bleed. You should use similar colors and the angled header design in some way however. The layout of the text can be kept much the same as on the old brochures, for example, I like having the dictionary style definition in the middle of the page.

the layout was completely created in the word application.

The banner on top looks cool, and the page colors are good, but the arrangement of the rest of the elements needs work. For example, the footer and logo look out of place in the middle of the page like that -- the middle of the brochure looks like it should be the bottom.

Thanks.

I am lifting the Microsoft Word requirement, because I feel it's limiting entries. Please design it using any program you want.

Djaka, it's still a bit too busy looking, for example the blue header type graphic you have above the Print Audit logo looks out of place. That part could just be blue text. Perhaps the 'Reduce' definition (and the paragraph below it) could be put on a lighter background and positioned differently. You don't have to use Word anymore.

Thanks.

I am also removing the 'checklist' brochure from the contest...I will do that as a separate contest for now. This contest is now just to redesign 4 brochures -- the Analyze, Reduce, Recover, Security found in the doc file in my first post.

Thanks.

Goodhaus, you're sticking a little to close to the look of the sample pdf I posted. It's ok for these to look a little bit different. I don't think the current blue headers and footers look good without the bleed, so they should be modified to look good even with a white border around the page.

I would stick a little closer to text layout in the old brochure, but using the new colors and angled style headers. I like the idea of having a large eye-catching image like djaka has done.

General comment: There's a lot of text on this brochure so it might be hard to work with if you have a large graphic. I would stick to a layout that's closer to the original brochures in the .doc. All you have to do is change the stock photo, colors and graphics to something closer the style of our new brochure.

Djaka are you working on a revision? Instead of having the picture across the top like that, you could just put in in a box on the the right of the brochure, similar to our old brochure. You can put the 'Reduce' definition in the middle of the page, etc.

I like the idea of a large image but only if it can be done in a cleaner way.

Djaka, I'm not too crazy about it, it's not clean enough.

I shifted around the elements in your first design in paint. Can you try something similar. The footer still needs work obviously, I would put the contact info beside the logo. Also the text on the header graphic needs work. I would rather have the text on the left side of the brochure and have it stand out a bit more.

Djaka, the lower half is better now, the top (the blue part) still needs work though. I would suggest something closer to the what I suggested in message #20 for the header. Your header looks too busy. Also i prefered how you had the header/footer corners rounded in your earlier designs.

Goodhaus, I'm not crazy about it. I would suggust using a text layout that's closer to the original brochures (in the .doc files) but with headers/footers that are closer to the Facilities Manager pdf I posted above. Also I would change the stock photo to a water drop picture from istockphoto.com .

Thanks.

Djaka, I don't think that layout is going to work. The text looks too jumbled. I think it's because the water graphic is taking up so much space. Can you try for a text and graphic layout that's very close to the original brochures, but using the blue header and footer that you have now?

Goodhaus, the text layout isn't bad, I would remove the purple from the header/footer though and remove the square effects from the stock photo. Also, I would try rounding the corners of the header/footer graphics.

Thanks.

My first entry. Thank you,

Virgil, pretty good but looks a bit busy. The logo could be made smaller yet and I would make your text layout closer to original -- you made some of the text bigger and thus made it look busier. I would make your stock photo more square and not as close to the edge.

Djaka, I would format the text layout and stock photo closer to the original files. Your header and footer are good.

Goodhaus, can you try doing your header and footer closer to how the others have done. Your stock photo can be smaller. I wouldn't use green so much in the text.

Krishm, the layout of your first one is pretty good. Any other ways of doing the blue header/footer though. The bottom left corner of your stock photo looks a bit out of place though. The angle in your footer isn't steep enough.

Krishm, the text layout is pretty good, can you trying making the shape of the headers closer to how they are in the Facilities Manager brochure I posted.

Virgil, the text/stock photo could be bigger still.

Djaka, I'd go closer to the original layout still. The very top of the header and the footer are good, but I would do the stock photo and 'Your printing costs...' paragraph closer to the original.

Thanks.

Thanks, I'll narrow this down to two people and pick a winner after these revisions:

Virgil, can I see what the header/footer look like with rounded corners. What size is the font you're using for the text that says 'Most organizations are unaware...' ? Also the large gap above the logo on top seems out place.

Djaka, the header and footer are good now. I think your text and stock photo layout could still be closer to the original though. Your main paragraph text is a bit bigger than it needs to be.
