Project Summary
Logo/branding design for 852fx.

The mission of 852fx is to help open doors to opportunities in college recruitment for high school student athletes in and around Louisville, KY.

What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
852fx

What type of product or service do you offer?
We use professional sports production services to build interactive sports highlight film DVD's to showcase the student athletes skills, potential, and personality.
We use secure, online athlete profiles to manage communication flow from colleges and universities to the parents and individual student athletes giving them complete control over their information and reports on who is accessing their online athlete profile.

How long have you been in business?
Starting up as we speak.

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
Branding that looks just as good on a website as it does on a DVD video: crisp, clean, sporty, slightly-technical and professional.

What are your long term goals?
Provide a solid means for getting kids who aren't the top athletes in their sports an opportunity to get their college education funded.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
10/31/2007

Audience Profile:
Who would you like to add to your audience?
High school parents (30-50 year old couples), high school student athletes (15-20 year old boys and girls), college sports recruitment coordinators (25-45 year old college sports enthusiasts)

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
Crisp, clean, sporty, slightly-technical and professional looking logo.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
Not limited to, but are leaning towards reds, blues, golds, and/or silvers as in these (http://www.colorcombos.com/combotester.html?color0=7F171F&color1=175480&color2=A78C09&color3=E4E4E4).

Our local college teams are the Louisville Cardinals (primary color is red) and the Kentucky Wildcats (primary color is blue), so using a familiar color may be beneficial but isn't required.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
We'd like to see something unique with the placement of the characters "8", "52" and "fx", but aren't married to that idea. We'd be open to possibly using sports icons, video/DVD disc icons or illustrative-imagery.

Here's a link to an example intro video and logo idea. (http://www.852fx.com/) Again, we aren't locked into this direction but maybe you can use it as inspiration.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
Professional sports highlight film production and web-based communication experts.

What is your tagline or slogan?
Still working on this, but some ideas are:
1) Even the playing field.
2) College potential, realized.
3) It's your ball, your yard.
4) Make a play.
5) Be Ready, Ball In... Game On!

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
Experts at making great sports videos and a secure communication methods to help manage the college student athlete recruiting process.

Where will your new logo be used?
Website, video, marketing materials

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
Most of the competitors we've seen have very poor online identities. We haven't seen any of their video production capabilities but the branding looks pretty bad. Here's a few:
http://www.nationalrecruits.com/
http://www.flsportsprofiles.com/About%20US.html
http://scoutingindiana.com/index.html
http://www.collegevideoscout.com/
http://www.gamefacevideo.com/

What sets you apart from your competitors?
We're passionate about making sports video highlight films. We enjoy seeing the reaction in the expressions of a high school sports team when they see their season highlight film. We feel we truly can help parents market their potential college student athlete with a professional video and online account management.

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Sports video profiles

Dewa:
Thanks for the quick response and submission! Our group will be meeting tomorrow to review your work and provide feedback.

Other designers:
We'd love to see what the rest of you have to offer. Dewa has come out with some pretty strong stuff right out of the gates. We look forward to working with you all through this process.

Thanks from the 852FX team!

Dewa, Version 1:
We like the treatment with the numbers here. Perhaps the 3 numbers could be top-aligned using that same treatment rather than stair-stepping down. Could you work that same type of treatment to the "FX" to make it look less like it's floating and more apart of the "852"? You could be onto something here...

Dewa, Version 2:
Liked the color variations here, but overall thought it was too plain and too much like our original concept. We were looking to use that original as a spring board to something better.

Freetime, Version 1:
We liked the colors and character spacing/proximity to each other. The look of the "FX" was interesting, but was difficult to determine if it was supposed to be "XF" or "FX".

Freetime, Version 2:
You really took our original idea and expanded on it trying to weave the numbers through each other. Very creative! Unfortunately it's a bit too difficult to read and determine if its "528" or "852".

All Designers:
We were thinking of concepts for our video intro and liked the idea of being able to fade in different elements of the logo sequentially. So the "8" would show first, then "52" fades in and finally "FX" fades in. Not sure how much that helps you guys.

Also, feel free to try subtly incorporating an icon (possibly DVD discs, basketball, baseball, volleyball or whatever) into the "8".

Lastly, can we see slogans with these layouts? For now, lets go with "Be Ready. Ball In. Game On!"

We really look forward to seeing future versions and other variations!

Thanks from the 852FX team!

The team met today to review the latest submissions. Thanks so much for the continued tweaks and adjustments. Here's the feedback...

Freetime, Version 3 & 4:
I know we said we weren't quite feeling the original "FX" treatments but these versions just feel too plain. We'd still like to see some type of stylized treatments with the "852FX".

You did help us realize, however, that we prefer the "852FX" inside the ball rather than the ball inside the "852FX". So we like the direction of version 4, but again feel like it needs to be more than just plain fonts.

Dewa, Version 3:
This looks much closer to what we envisioned from version 1. We definitely thought the "FX" was tied in much nicer. We'd still like to see the top of the 8, 5 & F characters aligned across the top. It seems like you could squeeze the top circle of the eight down a bit to bring those characters into alignment.

All Designers:
We'd really now like to see a combination of two best styles thus far which are Dewa's version 3 and Freetime's version 4. Basically we like the idea of having the stylized characters (similar to Dewa version 3) inside a sports ball (basketball, volleyball, baseball, football, etc.) almost as if it were a stamped logo on the ball itself.

Here's a couple of example sports balls:
Football (http://www.anacondasports.com/wcsstore/anaconda10/images/62-8178_lge.jpg),
Volleyball (http://www.spalding.com/enlarged/images/KOB_allWeather.jpg),
Soccer Ball (http://www.spalding.com/enlarged/images/tf2000.jpg),
Basketball (http://www.authenticsportscollectibles.com/store/images/44538.jpg)

If possible, we'd like the the sports ball to have a bit of the same stylized treatments the "852FX" has, creating consistent curves and lines across the entire logo.

The 852FX team really appreciates all of your continued creative work!

With the additional contributions from the new designers you have all certainly given the 852FX team a lot to think about with the deadline fast approaching. Here's the feedback notes from our most recent meeting...

SkyV, Version 1:
We liked how the characters flowed into each other, especially the "2" and the "F". The placement of the soccer ball was very creative. It didn't feel forced into the design, which is great.

It feels like the "852" is coming out of the "FX" but in reality the "effects : FX" are created from the "people or team : 852". I'm not sure if we're reading too much into this or not.

Also, the "X" character is a little tough to read possibly because of the its size in comparison to the ball and/or because of its taller right arm.

Overall, we like the direction but want to see some variations if possible.

Dewa, Versions 4 & 5:
Much better with the "852" being top-aligned. The basketball placement was very nice. Great job on making the desired adjustments.

I think we need to try some different color combinations. Maybe try alternating the blue and red. For example, 8 - red, 52 - blue, FX - red.

Can we try adjusting the "FX" characters again? They still feel a bit disjointed. Could the top of the "F" take a similar shape as the top of the "5"? Maybe other variations of these characters might work.

We like the overall direction right now are leaning towards your version 4 with some adjustments. Version 5 was interesting, but the football felt a little too plain. We almost want something a little more stylized if possible.

Radojevic, Version 1:
We loved the style of the football you created with motion lines behind it. We also liked the slight gradients over the white fonts. We liked the way the fonts worked with the "FX" characters but wanted to see some variations with the "852". This was great 1st attempt!

All Designers:
Again, thank you all for your continued designs and adjustments. You have all done great work thus far!

This has been an amazing process. Thanks to all the designers for such great work! You probably hear this a lot, but there were elements each designer provided that we really liked.

But there has to be a winner, and the 852FX team met today and came to a decision. The winning designer is Dewa Jaya (Version #7).

Dewa, if you can provide us the source artwork in EPS format, we'd really appreciate it. Also, if you can include the font you used in the logo that would be great.

Thanks so much for your outstanding work!
