Pioneer has been a basement water proofing company since 1979. They are now expanding into basement finishing services as well. Therefore they are now looking to develop a new logo that encompasses both sides of their business. They want a logo that is contemporary, and that appeals to a broad demographic (basement water proofing is usually done for middle income home owners - basement refinishing is usually done for higher income home owners.)

Here is their current logo:
http://www.walking-stick.com/images/pioneerlogo.jpg

As you can see it is quite outdated. One thought they had was to eliminate the wagon bug altogether, but I'd like to see options both ways.

1. with just text (with a more modern font):
P I O N E E R
Basement Solutions

2. with some kind of icon/bug, a wagon, or wagon wheel, or something representative of the pioneering spirit... but contemporized. I almost pictured a really high class, carved and painted sign that might be over a high-end shop that sells custom saddle or western wear.

Here is the Logo Design Assessment

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Design Outpost Creative Brief Worksheet

Basement finishing clients in homes valued high 200k's and up. Many will be homes less than ten years old.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:

We would like to look at some higher end western theme ideas as well as some classy non themed fonts

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
No

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
Not Definitely, but we would like some options with some type of western icon.

I think you all are creating some nice work here. I'm not going to comment much on any individual ones as I'm going to show them all to the client to get their feedback first. I would like to see some more examples without the wagon wheel. Whether that is a logo without any icon at all, or with some other icon besides the wheel. (an updated version of their ox and wagon maybe)

My goal is to have as many as possible done by Wednesday this week. Then I will show them to the client, then I'll come back with some feedback.

Thanks all. Good work.

Shnickerdoodle, your logo starts to give me that "carved wooden sign" feel. Do you think you could push that even further? Make it almost appear to be carved out of wood, and painted? Making the Wagon and Oxen less cartoony? Or maybe even just a silhouette of the wagon and oxen. Probably not as fancy as these, but maybe this flavor: http://www.springvalleysigns.com/

Thanks all. I'm in discussions with the client now. I'll get back to you soon about which they liked, and any tweaks that are needed.

Thanks all for your work. Sorry for taking so long but I finally have an answer back from the client. As always seems to happen with logo design, they liked elements from more than one design. They liked the text treatment of message 23 by snickerdoodle, and the wagon art from message 18 by djaka. I will deposit an additional $300 so you each can get paid. Basically I'll need to get files from both of you, and I will combine and tweak them as necessary. I would prefer them in Adobe Illustrator CS format if possible. I'm not sure of the way it works here, whether I give you my email address or what. Let me know.

Thanks again all.
