I need a logo created for my company: Touchstone Publishing
The logo should be professional but not overly generic. I don't want any book icons or anything like that, and I don't want it to be too wide so more than likely you'll need to run "publishing" under "touchstone".
Other than that, I'm open. I look forward to seeing what you guys come up with!

Here is a more detailed project description:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Touchstone Publishing
What type of product or service do you offer?
We sell a number of information products in a number of different markets, primarily on the internet.
How long have you been in business?
7 years
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
I don't have an old identity so anything is better than what I have.
What are your long term goals?
Establish a professional brand image for this company.
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
November 28th
Please describe your existing audience
Mostly authors and product developers.
What type of logo would you like?
Professional. Not trendy but not overly generic either.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
Probably blue...something that establishes trust and permanence.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
I don't want books or anything cheesy like that. If there's going to be an icon, it should be built off of the words themselves.
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
Strength and longevity
What is your tagline or slogan?
none
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
We can be trusted.
Where will your new logo be used?
website, business cards, stationary, etc.
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
Technically any major book publisher could be a competitor.
What sets you apart from your competitors?
We don't just publish books, we publish full-blown information products.

Thanks for the work. Here's some feedback:
Logoholik: Sorry, but this isn't at all the direction I want to go. It just doesn't say "established" and "professional" to me.
xpressions: I'm not a huge fan of the icon because I really want to stray from the "book" metaphors, but the overall look of the text is nice.
Blesseville: I like the look of "Publishing" but I think the "Touchstone" font and style doesn't balance well with it. As for the icon, I'm sorry but I don't really get it. Is it two "Ps" merged together to look like a "T"?
If it isn't clear to me I'm afraid it won't be clear to my market either, so we may need to go back to the drawing board on this one.
I know it isn't easy being the first ones to do designs, so I appreciate you guys "taking one for the team". Hopefully my feedback will lead you in the right direction.

nhr: I really like the look of the icon you've created, but can you give me a sense of its meaning? Feel free to respond via PMB if you don't want to give away all your secrets. ;)

Thank you for the feedback. Yes, it was supposed to be two P's coming together to form a T. Here's a new a one.

pracus: Love the font, look of the text and the overall layout...not that crazy about the icon. (Looks like a "T" and a "U".) You're definitely on the right track, though.
Blesseville: Sorry, but this still isn't achieving the "established" and "trustworthy" look I'm going for. It looks nice but it isn't right for this project.

Thank you very much :) Not a secret and we can't communicate private before end of this project :D
Icon represent papers, also touching stones (association to your name = Touchstone) and forming mountain (be on top).

Fran: Cool icon but it's almost too dominating. Can you try some different variations where the words are maybe a bit bigger?
freetime: I kind of wanted to keep the logo to two colors so let's ditch the orange. Also, having looked at a few logos I don't think I want to go the direction of using the "T" and "P" in the logo.
I appreciate everyone coming up with so many variations on this theme because it helped me narrow what I didn't want, but it's now clear to me that a more conceptual icon is what I'd like to achieve.
pracus: I definitely like design #2 better than design #3 (for the reason mentioned above). Please feel free to continue working on variations, but right now I can tell you that this will be one of the finalists I show to my team next week. In the meantime, if you could provide an explanation of your icon I would greatly appreciate it.
nhr: After the explanation I like this logo even more than I already did! I'd like to see some different variations with the text font and placement, but unless you had any other variations in mind with the icon I'm ready to call this a finalist as well.
Thank you for the feedback. Here is a revisioned version. :)

Fran: I like these versions a lot better. Thanks for getting them done so quickly.
EVERYONE: I just posted a new logo project over at:
http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showthread.php?p=302190
You've all done such a great job that I'd love it if you could take a stab at that one as well. (NOTE: The deadline for the new job is a little bit shorter, so the sooner you can get your entry in the better.)
Thanks in advance,
Ryan

Thank you for the feedback, the icon represents stability and strenght (the square border) and papers in the middle :)

Here is another concept, hopefully more professional than my first proposal :)
Touchstone. Making the waves/change. Breaking the silence. Spreading the word.

Wow, you guys are making this hard... :)
nhr and freetime: I think I'm liking the serif font better like what logoholik and pracus did in their more recent versions. If you wouldn't mind creating some variations with these fonts I'd greatly appreciate it.

Here's an entry from me, designed around one definition of a touchstone.
Looking forward to your comments and suggestions.

Wow, this was a hard decision and the team wasn't even close to a consensus. Ultimately we decided to let majority rule, so without further ado the winner is...
nhr
Most preferred the final version but please send over the other variations as well because we'll probably test that a bit more.
Thanks everyone for your entries, and remember that I have another active logo job over at:
