Logo Design Assessment

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To guide the designers in the right direction from the start, please complete the following questionnaire and copy and paste it in the first message of your logo project:

Design Outpost Creative Brief Workshee

Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?

Family Professional Painting. Will consider a play on that as a main feature, ie. FP Paint, but state law says the whole name must appear in some form.

What type of product or service do you offer?

High end residential and custom painting.

How long have you been in business?

Our family has served the needs of homeowners for over 50 years.

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?

Set ourselves apart from the other paint contractors. Emphasize quality, trust and experience. Attract our targeted customer.

What are your long term goals?

Triple our business whithin five years by giving our customers great service and at the same time attract the best employees through a combination of top pay and benefits and ability to grow.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a
designer?

December 6, 2007

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience

.Residential Homeowners

Who would you like to add to your audience?

Women, 35-55 affluent and educated. Involved with their home. Desiring quality.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?

Am open to anything. Really like some of the work the designers have done for "Bluestocking Boutique" and "Hunters Dream". Really want something that is memorable and appealing to the targeted clients.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)

No.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?

Really want you to stretch you talents. Think of what others use, then use something else, do it different. Don't want an open can of paint with color running down the side. (now one of you will come up with something that totally changes my mind)

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?

Luxury, quality, trust, fulfillment of dreams. (Savoirs of the color challenged?)

What is your tagline or slogan?

Dream In Color

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?

That we offer quality, great service.

Where will your new logo be used?

Business cards, letterhead, signs, T-shirts and uniforms, advertisments. (If it's really good i may even tattoo it on me)

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?

Annapolis Painting Company, Certa-Pro, Bay Area Painting, Painting With Pride. None of them have a logo I like.

List competitive URLs if possible

http://www.bowenpainting.com/, www.annapolispainting.com
http://www.paintingwithprideinc.com/
http://www.baycountrypainters.net/

What sets you apart from your competition.

Our family has been serving the paint needs of homeowners for over 50 years. Quality, experience professionalism.

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:

People, service, experience

Thank you for choosing Design Outpost

What a great way to start the day. If we stopped right now what you two have produced is better than anything my competitors are using.
Deanna: How about the house and brush in a more abstract bare bones form. Less solid.

Bill: Like your inventive stick figures, (****, wish I really was that thin) but not sure of the colors. How about a more flowing font for "Family Professional Painting". Like the incorporation of our tagline.

Note to everyone; you do not have to incorporate icons of painting into your designs.

Deanna, I like the second version better. Yours would be easy to reproduce on shirts and signs.

Bill, really like what you have done. Problem is when we put it on 30 inch yard signs, the horizontal fonts would have to be so small to fit that one could not read it. Afraid it may ruin it but how about the words "Family Professional Painting" stacked upon each other.

Any other designers want to take a crack at it?

First of all, the work done so far by all designers is great. Any logo would be better than what others in my area have.

Logoholic: Your design is nice and clean, but seems to be missing something. Serched some of your other designs and like some of the stuff you have done. (Platinum Touch, 84 Ideals, Lite Spices) Don't know how that translates to what we want, just some ideas.

Taldo: Like Version 2 better. The colors and added line undeneath works well. Like work you have done for Leah Charbonneau, and Inspired Lanscape Creations V6.

Fabian: Like where you are going. Version 3 is more to my liking, it is classy, clean but not plain. Could you somehow work our tagline into that design? Like your work on Solar Nation and surfscouts. (I used to surf, so I may be biased.)

All designers: Would like to see our tagline incorporated if possible. "Dream In Color".

Fabian

Thank you for the feedback. Here are some versions that use your slogan.

I too are very fond of surfscouts, wished I surfed more...so I could lose my spare tyre (:D)

Thanks to Fabian and Bill for the revisions.

Fabian: Think 3.2's font is the best.

Bill: I like your original version best.

Deanna, thanks for the revision. That is the best one you have done. Can you make the house and brush even more abstract. Like you just barely know what it is? Lots of painters use the brush or roller and if we go that route, I'd like it to be less distinct and totally different then what others have.

Deanna; Thanks for the revisions. Think the house in v4 and brush in v3 together would be about what I like. Don't have to make it, I can envision it.

Taldo: I really like your version 3. Problem is that horizontal name. If we try to put it on a yardsign (they are 30" wide) the font would be too small for people driving past to see. It's frustrating for me because that is the second design to do that and I really like them. Nobody's fault, just good work that I may not be able to use.

Come home from a hard day at work and BAM! Lots of logos!

Logoholic; Several nice designs. Version 4 is nice but 3 is even better. Really like how it starts with the tagline. Thank you.

any updates on this?

bikerboy
12-12-2007, 10:00 AM
I like Version 3, but want to use the basic format (little stick icons) on yard signs. Which means the words would have to be stacked as in version 4. Can that be acomplished with the standard artwork?

Can you also send a jpeg version?
What info do you need from me for cards and letterhead?
Would this be easier over the phone?
Can you provide the icons and "Dream In Color" as seperate attachments?
How do purchase the fonts?
Is this enough questions?
Will I have MORE? (can guarentee that)
