Dear Designers,
I have been a forum lurker for about a year and have seen some very professional results. Hopefully everyone hasn't taken off on holidays and you can share some creative stuff. I'll do my best to keep you on track without waisting allot of your time. If it sucks I'll tell you. ;) My current logo isn't the worst I have seen but it just doesn't work for me anymore. I am in dire need of something new and fresh. Here is my current logo and the site past the landing page where the new logo will go.
WEBSITE (http://www.ridoutphotography.com)
Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Ridout Photography
It doesn't need to be Capatilized if that effects your design.
What type of product or service do you offer?
Portrait & Wedding Photography
How long have you been in business?
25 years
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
Early Retirement
What are your long term goals?
Making more money...expanding business
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
Jan. 15th 2008
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Semi-Pro and Professional Photographers, wedding couples, family's seeking inspiration, fun, creative imagery
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
the logo should be funky, fun, edgy, creative, wow, cooool,...please no kissing hearts, rings, film strips, cameras
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
I am open for color ideas but would like to keep the design two colors. Currently I am using Cyan and Black for my current logo.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
I would like to have "ridout photography" separate from the logo so that I can use the logo as a sticker or watermark for photos and on a blog together with the name. I like circle logos and rectangular logos.
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
creative, fresh and professional
What is your tagline or slogan?
I accept cash . Just kidd'in I don't have one.
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
this cat is no ordinary photographer :)
Where will your new logo be used?
It will be used on my current site in the current location, in a header on a blog, as a watermark on posted and printed photos and if it's really good I'll tattoo it on my a$$.
List competitive URLs if possible
n/a
What sets you apart from your competitors?
my photography
Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:

Thanks for getting it rolling. A few thoughts.
1/ I see that you are trying to incorporate the "R" and "P" into the logo and I like that. I believe that the logo design should have both letters incorporated into the design in either a square, rectangle or circle.
2/ no "e" in Ridout :)
3/ I don't like the font in Rideout Photography although I suspect you were trying to come close to the text on my current site at www.ridoutphotography.com The font I am willing to purchase so that I can match the tabs for each of the gallerys if need be. I'm also working on a new website that will have the logo and name placed in the upper right of the screen as a png allowing the image to show behind it.
4/more importantly think outside the box! The logo should match my personality here...funky,edgy,cool,creative,fun

Logoholik- as far as the type treatment I do like the use of bold and lighter text to separate the two names. I can see that you are trying to get an R and P together i just don't dig the reflection on the R. Not fond of the logo itself. After seeing Tini's post i have decided that a free floating logo would be the way to go.
Tini1: -you came out of the gates strong. When i look at the logo it appears not as an "r" and a "p" but what i see is a head with outstretched arms as if from viewing above the photographer. Perhaps we should dump the concept of putting the logo into a box or circle. The more I think about this to me it is too conforming....to boxed in... By free floating the logo it creates openess,creativity.... Lets free float the logos. Is there a way to drop the box...angle the logo to give it energy and see if you can better what you have started perhaps trying to get an r and a p from the design . Your text treatment is good. Clean and simple. Your onto something

Tini1-I prefer post#11 over #12 I don't like the "p" in the box...looks awkward in #12 Don't get fixated on the design. I didn't realize how difficult it would be to convey something through typing. I will look at anything including different type faces and logos. The text dosen't have to match the current site. Perhaps a romantic scrip with logo. love, romance but yet edgy. Is there such a thing :)
Kekepania
too simple and quite frankly boring...I actually played with this idea years ago and gave up. Lets not get hung up on the text(font) theme that is evident in all of the posts( I do like the different thicknesses) or that the leters 'R' and "p" have to be in the logo. Thanks for posting
nothing yet that I would tattoo on my a$$ :)

Tini1- I definitely think the logo works better outside a box. I am not sold on the change to graphic so it so obviously looks like an "r". Although I understand that when used without the words it at least conveys the first letter of my name. To that notion, I would say look at the NIKE swish, it has come to represent NIKE, yet when used by itself there is no subliminal "n" in play. A good graphic has appeal on its own and merging it with your wordmark often enough will connect it subliminally when the words aren't used all the time. Another example, the Scotiabank flying s.?
What has been achieved with your earlier alteration/rendering is energy. The graphic no longer looks static. That said, the type (wordmark doesn't work well in that size, in that location).
....so to make a long story short I don't have to see the letters of my name it was just a starting point although I like my name :)
tini1

more free flowing...:)

TINI1-your best yet was message#9 but there's something missing. I still go back to that and it looks like a head with arms outreached. A photographer gathering the crowd which is ok. If only the p could look a tad more recognizable. I would also like the logo to the left of the text on any future posts if possible.
Thank you all for the early start....anyone else want to give it a try?

....again I'm open to any creative fresh, funky, new ideas....the latest logo tini1 is too industrial looking. Perhaps we should try some concepts with a different text font. We need more players.

Tini1: any chance you could go back to original of the outstretched arms and head (message 9) lose the box, place left of ridout photography? and try any variances of that but don't extend the r like you did in 11 and see if you can make the p a tad more noticeable without making it blatant. Does that make sense?
anyone else wanna join the mayhem

It sure would be great to have more then yourself and I working :)
I wouldn't mind seeing if you could angle the logo slightly(not as much as you did in your other reworks) and is there a font similar to the "r" in the logo? any better ideas on the "p"

Happy New Year!!!!!....some interesting ideas but the supplied examples feel too rigid for my personality and my approach to photography.
I would like my logo to reflect who I am. Fun, Zany, Hip, Happening, with a twist of culture. I would welcome a design with a twist of whimsy. The logo needs to work in two colour and black only formats, no three and four colour logos.
Colours that I am leaning towards are cyan/blk fuscia/black but open to your design ideas.
Font selection needs to be modern. Color choices should be in keeping with current Euro trends. I need a Brand identity with bot an Icon and wordmark that can be used separately or together.
I want a logo that works in both vertical and horizontal applications. (two variations if necessary)
I am looking for something off the beaten path!!! and your CREATIVITY is most welcome. Be the designer that I have seen in other posts :)

Kekepania #46 is interesting but I would love for a designer or yourself to come up with the "ridout photography" in text that doesn't look boxey or similar to the font in my current logo. Could you show me some variations of the boxed "r" ....could you get a "r" and a "p" from the same letter?
