Project Summary:
http://www.jrl-consulting.com/kf.jpg
Current logo (shown above) is old and needs a major update to blend and appeal to today’s web standards and marketing trends. It's currently black and white and has that 80's style that stands out and just does not look right to the eye.
What type of product or service do we offer?
We are a retail company selling indoor and outdoor furniture (our core product being sheds). Our business was founded by Keith Kloter who originally began selling horse drawn carriages. Customers found the sheds to be more appealing which is how this business began. We are currently the largest shed/gazebo retailer in New England.
What do we hope to accomplish with our new identity?
A more sophisticated logo which will better portray our identity. For years, we have had the gazebo image and it's worked well. Were at the cross roads where we might entertain having one or more of the following instances.
1. Shed Outline or similar (not to busy)
2. Shed and Gazebo Outline
3. Store Item, such as a dining room table and a Gazebo or a Shed back to back. Example, picture of a mission style chair outline backing a Gazebo outline or Shed Outline.
One of the websites where we do a lot of business is Martins which can be found @ http://www.KeyStoneCollections.com
Concerning the KeyStoneCollections products, our customer base tends to perfer best, the Shaker style dining sets. The chairs displayed in the following link would best resemble the thought process outlined above (3.)
http://www.keystonecollections.com/ShakerFrameset.htm
Note: The reason I use the term "outline" so much is that it will keep the look and feel of not being to busy. This will also be important as we will most likly use this logo for means other than web.
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
Jan 1, 2008, 5:00 p.m., Eastern standard time.
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Adults 30+; the majority which own homes and are looking for quality high end indoor/outdoor furniture.
What type of logo would you like?
1. I am looking for either an expansion of our current logo (another idea similar to what were currently using). Maybe a different graphic, color, font type. I think – , it’s really important for us to maintain some kind of product image in our logo (picture or a high quality shed or gazebo since this is where the business began). I would also entertain using a store product and a yard product almost side by side as long as it does not get to busy. I am willing to work with the designer on getting photos to he or she if needed.
2. Looking for a graphic which supports higher scale audience (appealing)
or
3. A graphic which would represent our line of business outside of the above (1.)
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
Green / Black / White / Grey
Green is our company color and always has been. The graphic we have used on the web of late has changed from black and white to green and now to a grayish-tan.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
Yes, Our company logo as show in black and white. You can also visit us @ http://www.kloterfarms.com
Logo shown on home page was roughly redesigned to suite color needs.
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
Quality, Sheds, Gazebos & Hand Crafted Furniture
What is your tagline or slogan?
Quality is the foundation on which we build.
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
Our products are quality, on the higher end of the scale and are by far some of the greatest handcrafted indoor and outdoor home/yard products made in the world.
Where will your new logo be used?
Website Home Page, Possibly advertisements, marketing, etc.
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
http://www.barn-yard.com/
http://www.carefreebuildings.com/
http://www.skipsonline.com/
http://www.capecodfence.com/
No comment on there logos though what were looking for is in an entirely different class.
What sets you apart from your competitors?
Our customer service, quality of product and years experience.
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Honesty, Trust, Integrity and customer service
Other considerations:
You can always contact me via email if you need further thoughts or pictures to suite your idea.
Thanks,

So far so good.
I love the straight lines and incorporating the "since 1980".
Would be nice to see in a bit darker green...
Well done
"What do we hope to accomplish with our new identity?"
Please read the revise of my post as I have restated a few line items of what were looking for. As I see logos from this point forth I will comment directly rather than reediting my start post. Please keep them coming.

Here are my opinions. I do think it's best if some of you browse our website to get more of a feel of our image, etc
1. The Logoholik, last design looks great. Only issue I have is that it is almost along the same lines of what we currently have. (but I do love how clean it is)
2. Bill, Penny Lane Graphics - just two busy with the trees and color surrounding it. I do like the out of the box thinking though...
3. Freetime, Designer - Love what you did with the chairs and the Gazebo. Can we do something with a Shed. Particularly an Elite building... http://www.kloterfarms.com/page.cfm?p=16620
We have been trying to brand ourselves more and more with the Elite building due to it's mass size and trying to target a specific audience.
4. shnickerdoodle studios, loguru - Sorry to say but this design is way off what were looking for. Thank you though anyhow.
Please keep them coming

All,
Enhancing your home and yard... The quote, we like it. Not sure how it would work in all the designs but it does portray one of the most important things at this point which is
How do we design a logo which customers can clearly see that we have both a store side and a yard side. Again, we sell sheds, gazebos, playscapes, outdoor misc furniture, and most importantly, indoor furniture (beds, bedroom sets, center islands, dining sets, etc). We ARE a Destination and this needs to somehow be clearly outlined in our branding.
Logoholik, your work at this point is what were looking for (the art and clean style) though were still lacking that one eye catching point described above.
More comments to come...

I like so far message 25. Can we take one of our Gazebo's and add that to the image instead of the shed. Were starting to think that the Gazebo brings out more of a higher standard.
Would it be possible to take our current logo with 25 and clean it up and a few differernt ways.
Also taking a few solgans and mixing them.
"Quality is the Foundation on Which we Build"
"Home. Garden"
"Enhanceing your Home and Yard"
It would be nice to see them all and compare..
Thanks,
Jay

I like it a lot. Please keep them coming along these lines. Maybe changing some of the lines, etc to make it more appealing/ classy.
The picture is good. It’s our product which is what were all starting to like over here. Please continue to use our website for Gazebo photos as well as the orig photo in this post.
Were almost there…

I'm a little confused about the changing some of the lines. Could you explain a little further? Thank you so much!
KloterFarms
01-08-2008, 08:39 AM
Sure thing. The straight lines in post
4, 5, 14, 25
were cut differently which gave it a different appeal. I think I also really like the text in Home. Garden as shown above in 32 but others might see it differently. It just looks cleaner. If we could also try different ideas with this Gazebo. Maybe clean it up more or place shadows in different area's, etc. Keep in open mind on that path...
Thanks

# 44 is way to busy for what were looking for. Can we try the photo without the curves in the text and above that and getting rid of the KLOTER FARMS outlined in all black so it's just clear text. But keep the circle. I would like to see how that works...
Thanks

Freetime, Take 46 and make the green a dark deep classy green. Also, either you or I spelled Enhancing wrong (no e). Not that it matters yet.
#47, I like this a lot too. Wow, different for sure.
#46 though does not dramatically change our appearance to much which is more the direction were heading in at this point (we think).
Freetime, I would also like to make sure were really using our Gazebo product and not something that was drawn or taken somewhere else. I am assuming the above is a cleanup of our logo? I love the white outlines as well.
Looks like this is our final day. Please keep them coming. As long as my group approves, we will end which I will not know until tomorrow afternoon sometime.
Thanks,
Jay

So keep the dark green for shadows and change the teal green to a darker (more green) color?

So keep the dark green for shadows and change the teal green to a darker (more green) color?... Exactly, maybe that the dark green and make it even darket while bringing the teal green to the current green or a hair lighter/darker deep green...

I am going to need you to do the following ASAP.
Get me the following: (Get rid of your Gazebo)
1. Your same image but get rid of the Gazebo and use the same Gazebo from FreeTime. The cleaned up version. Some of the folks here like the swirl.
2. Use one with the Gazebo with the circle around it
3. Use one with the Gazebo without the circle around it
4. Give me both 2 and 3 again with a shorter swirl as well.
5. Only give me the deep dark green and the black. (I do not need the teal in any of the above 1-4)
Thanks,
Jay
PS, Freetime, Hang in there for now. Were having a debate this afternoon and need more than one to go off.

Just a quick note until moderators confirm - as you are probably unaware, we designers are not allowed to share/borrow designs from each other, otherwise you will have to pay each one a full amount... please see:

Cheers,

Client yes Logoholik is correct Skyvee will not be able to fill your request of copying Freetimes gazebo. She can come up with a new version of her own but she can not step on Freetimes toes. If she decides to come up with a new version it will be review to make sure it is not to close to Freetimes, if it is it will be pulled from your project and it will need to be revised before she can repost it for you.
If you have any further questions you can send me a Private Message. Thank you

Hi Jay! Thanks for the feedback.
I'm sorry but as Logoholik stated above, we're not allowed to borrow other designer's concepts. So instead, I modified my gazebo a bit and I hope you'll like it. :)
Logoholik, thanks for the clarification! :)

Thanks for the info, in any case, please do not copy but take OUR ORIGIONAL GAZEBO listed in POST 1 and copy it, clean it up the best you can and post it back. Our meeting it in 1.5 hours and I would like to present it. Everyone attending will like to see more than just one image.
Logoholik and Freetime, I welcome you to do the same as long as it does not of course copy what skyvee has done...
Note: I just saw the update. So the above it late. There still is time for the others for any last minute. I do understand the situation. Sorry for the confusion.

All, (we are extending till Monday - NO Further after that)
Tomorrow, I will be uploading our orig logo (flat file) for everyone to take and use there text only on our logo in two different ways. One way will be shown to the right of the logo and the other will be under the logo as how it's be presented in pages 1-3 (by text I mean FONT). We have decided to keep our logo, the orig, but have everyone clean the lines up (ONLY crisp it up). In no way will anyone be taking things out of it (the picture). We would like a total of 4 images per designer to have the following: 1. With circle and font to the side. 2. without circle and font to the side of the logo. 3. with circle and font at the bottom of the logo. 4. without circle and font at the bottom of logo (as everyone did in there designs above/FONT)
Just clean it up the best you can.
Again, We would like the font to be straight instead of curved as shown in all of the designers posts. More to come tomorrow once I upload the actual file of our logo for everyone to download and edit.
Thanks,
Jay
