Admin code added by Abby - 9Y797730248069210
Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
deadtre.es
What type of product or service do you offer?
Social website for sharing your reading lists and other book related information... or del.icio.us for books.
How long have you been in business?
New site, not yet live.
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
This is a personal development project at the moment. I'm really looking to give the looks of the site a leg-up by having a decent logo.
What are your long term goals?
As a personal project I'm simply looking to finish and launch the site at this point. If I can pick up a few users along the way I'll be happy.
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
20th December
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
No existing audience.
Who would you like to add to your audience?
Probably the twitter, flickr, facebook crowd.
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
Something really simple and bold I think.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
Not really.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
Again, not really. Sorry.
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
I guess I really want to associate my site with the web 2.0 lot.
What is your tagline or slogan?
Don't have one.
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
Inviting, welcoming, warm perhaps?
Where will your new logo be used?
On the site. If I could use the graphical element alone as a favicon that would be useful.
Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
LibraryThing.com, BookJetty.com and BookMooch.com do similar things. I'm looking for something a bit stronger/bolder somehow. I want to avoid a stack of books as the graphical element.
What sets you apart from your competitors?
Good question.
Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Quality.

Thanks everyone. Here's some quick feedback:
expressions
I like the way you're going, although I'm not sure the graphic is quite right. Could we maybe try just a single book and person rather than 4? Also, could we try a different font? I quite like it, but my instant reaction is that it's a little tall?
giant
Like the look of the black and white version, I think the font's pretty good but it might be hard to figure out what the graphic is about when it's smaller/in less colours.
DragonB
Could maybe try another font? I think this one looks a bit angular/harsh if that makes sense?

I made payment via PayPal about 16hrs ago. Is there anything else I need to do?

It was likely after office hours, so Abby, our admin, should be posting the code very soon; I sent her a quick note since there are several designers with entries prepared.
Thanks!

Could someone provide me with an update on this please? I made a payment at the end of last week but still haven't had this validated.

Hi!
Serif font is obvious choice here... a tree in heaven...

Sorry about the delay on this one, thanks everyone for all of your entries so far. I know the original deadline isn't far away, but any other submissions are welcome. Here's some feedback:
DragonB: I prefer some of the alternative fonts you've put forward, although something just isn't quite doing it for me on this one. I don't know what I'd suggest if you wanted to come up with a new revision, but I think it's the graphic that's just a little bit too simple?
Logoholik: Interesting idea. For me this is just a little bit too classical in style, if you know what I mean. Also, for my purposes I think a layout with the logo to the left of the text will most likley work the best.
Xpressions: Version 3 is going in the right direction I think. I'd be interested in seeing the graphic with the pages slightly curved if you know what I mean? Also, I like the font you've got but still think there might be something else out there. I'm tempted to suggest trying one of the softer, rounder fonts although I'm not too sure about that; any thoughts?
Thanks again for all your submissions, look forward to seeing what else you come up with.
Cheers

Thank you for the feedback. Is the page "curve" what you had in mind? I have provided a few different font choices as well.

Thanks for the updates and new entries, they're looking great. First, just a quick word about the deadline. I asked for an extension to the project since it took a while to sort out validation and I felt it would be useful to have a few more days to get this right - I hope this isn't a problem for those that have already submitted entries. Ok, some feedback:
xpressions: Yeah, that's the curve although I imagined it (the book) would be narrower - closer to the width of the previous version, although I appreciate it might be a little wider than the original. As for fonts I prefer the first and third. Please also see my comments below.
logoholik: Thanks for the update, I like it. In particular I like the colours, the new layout and I think the font is great. I'm still wrestling with whether the graphic is obvious enough especially if it was smaller, but I'm not sure this is a real issue. I can't offer any specific feedback so I think I need a day to get used to it.
radojevic: Thanks for the entry. I like the font but I think the graphic is too large when compared to the text. In my mind I've settled on having a logo to the left of the text (am I boring?) and although I could be persuaded otherwise I think you need to be a bit nearer than at present.
Thanks again!

Here is with the book a bit more on the narrow side:

Sorry I've not been around to give any feedback for the last couple of days.
plum74: The style's not really what I had in mind, and the graphic is too big. Please check some of my earlier feedback.
xpressions: Nice update. I think the width of the book is about right there. The circle around the top looks good and certainly helps bring things together, although for some reason whenever I see it I can't help but see a man with headphones on. I know there's only a few days to go, but if you have any ideas how this might be tweaked I'd be interested in seeing another rev.
Thanks again everyone.

I like the idea, but not the domain.. I think people like to forget the fact that tress are chopped down to make their books..
Some may find it a little offensive.

Thanks for all the submissions.
It was hard to choose, but I declare version 7 of xpression's logo the winner. (Special thanks also to Logoholik, I really loved your second entry.)
If it's ok there are a couple of really small changes I'd like.
1. Please could you shift the last "es" left a couple of pixels so that the gap after the dot is the same as the gap before.
2. I'm not sure about the shadow. In colour it's difficult to see, and in the monotone version I'm not sure it's clear what's happening. I'm happy to remove it.
Thanks again.

Thanks, that's perfect. I'm not sure what format the final logo would usually be delivered in, but would it be possible to get the PSD/original format as well as an export in gif or whichever format makes sense? Cheers.
