Hi,

Another logo contest! Exciting indeed…

The website is called www.fiveblocks.com for our Web Marketing Business.
Note: the old tenant has not yet moved out her things…

Below are our answers to the logo design submission sheet:

What text should be included in the main part of the logo?

The name of the company “Five Blocks”
possibly the text fiveblock.com or www.fiveblocks.com

What type of product or service do you offer?

It is an internet marketing business that does 5 things (sort of like 5 different blocks?)
- Runs www.YouNeverCall.com
- Runs www.ReputationReset.com (a separate logo contest for this site is taking place now)
- Runs www.CondominiumCentral.net
- Provides SEO and SEM services to other companies
- Develops new web sites and technologies (like www.thegobutton.com and www.keywordsfinder.com)

How long have you been in business?

This company name is new – the activities described above began about 4 years ago.

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?

We would like our identity to give our company an established and professional look.

What are your long term goals?

Continue our various projects and websites – with possibility to later sell one or more of the projects.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?

We would like to have a final design in place by January 7 or sooner.

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience

Partners and potential partners in our ventures.

Who would you like to add to your audience?

Future Investors

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?

Corporate, but with personality. (even very slightly web 2.0-ish)

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)

We like color schemes that are both bright and corporate.
Probably should not be Blue/Orange like our YouNeverCall logo.
Other than that – use your imagination.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?

The idea of taking a name like “five blocks” was that together with a logo that reminds one of 5 blocks – we hope for it to be a name people will remember.
We think that there should be an image very clearly connected to the concept of 5 blocks. (we own 5blocks.com too…)

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?

solid, established, innovative, fun, successful

What is your tagline or slogan?

We don’t have one at this time – I would like to see how a tagline might look in your samples…

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?

That we are an impressive company with several successful projects. We are hip and professional.

Where will your new logo be used?

Webiste, Marketing collateral – brochures, folders (embossed), business cards, t-shirts, mugs.

Competitive Positioning:

What sets you apart from your competitors?

An interdisciplinary approach – we have people on staff with lots of different talents.
We also prefer deep involvement with a few areas rather than a more shallow consulting relationship with many clients.

Targeted Message:
State a single phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
We find the niches and technologies where we and our clients can excel.

Deliverables:
We will need the logo….
- With and without the tagline
- In various formats including web-ready and high res for printing
- In the form of a small favicon (or at least the 32X32 and 16X16 that we need to create one.

Logoholic - thanks for stepping up to bat first!

Comments on the designs:
General - I think I want Five and Blocks to be either separated or at least set off by being in a different font or a different color.
Design 1 - pretty but those don't look like blocks or even squares
Design 2 - reminds me of the Texaco logo - again the blocks dont do it for me.
Design 3 - this one I liked best - it did look a little like a Microsoft logo - but the concept is interesting. I am worried about one of the blocks being the center one - since we dont place an emphasis one one part of our business more than the others.

I look forward to your revisions!

regards,
sam.

Some feedback

Plum74 #1: this is interesting. how would it look with black borders taht were thinner - or a diff color for borders? Also the Fiveblocks in all caps and in a single color - I am not sure it's right for me.

Plum74 #2: This looks a bit like a Microsoft logo and its not quite right for us.

NHR #1+2: I like the blocks and i like the concept of lowercase letters - but I dont really like the arrangement.

Hi,

Some guys in the office really liked your design and we messed around with related ideas - here are some ideas that we played with - none of them are exactly right - but this direction may work for us.

http://www.fiveblocks.com/fb2.jpg

My apologies for abusing your designs - we thought that perhaps graphical feedback would help other designers hone in on ideas that could work for us

Also lowercase letters or different font may be better for us.

We are thinking that logos with several primary colors may be okay - apple, microsoft and google have done well with these.

regards,
sam.

Logoholik design 4 - the text is nice - not sure about the blocks. It seems that putting them in a big empty square doesn't work for us.

One of the guys in the office keeps thinking that maybe there is a way to utilize the concept of wooden blocks - like the ones prictured below.

If anyone can think of a way - he'll get off my back!

A few more people have looked at your designs and we like the simplicity of a row of blocks.

I personally like version 3 better, thorugh some of us prefer version 4.

We are not happy with the font and we think perhaps the company name should be more similar in size to the logo.

Here is something that we mocked up:

http://www.fiveblocks.com/fb3.jpg

keep the ideas coming.

again my apologies for being back-seat driver - it's a occupational hazard for us Web Marketing people - we sometimes think we can do anything.... :)

We will create some sort of favicon - it may only use one element of the logo - so we are open to any shape or size that meets our general criteria!

Logoholik #6 - attractive but not perfect for us.
Blesseville #1 - interesting new approach, perhaps too 2-dimensional.
Plum74 #2-#3 - Wasn't popular with our staff here - they were looking for meaning in the arrangement.
Plum74 #4 - I really like this one - but I am afraid it looks like we are juggling 5 blocks - this may not give a strong feeling that we have everything under control.
Logoholik #7 - Some of us think this is the best one we have seen so far. the 3D blocks are nice and the way they form a star is interesting. Would be interesting to see variations on this one. Verision #8 is slightly less exciting, Version #9 again looks a bit like juggling.
Artemii #1 - Interesting, but not the corporate look we are searching for.
Artemii #2 Looks like the logo of a TV News program - not perfect for our consulting firm.
Xpressions #1 interesting. this could work for us - We would be happy to see additional variations - maybe ones with the name to the right of the logo too.
Xpressions #2 This one is missing symmetry.
Blesseville #2-3 looks like our company has a stability issue.
Blesseville #4 this reminded us a bit too much of macramé or a spider web.
Dewa Jaya #1 - this logo was the favorite of some of our staff - we are interested in seeing variations on this idea.
NHR 3.1, 4 We still like this design a lot too. Is there a way to make these more 3D and less like flat squares?

We hope to wrap this up within 1-2 days - any additional entries are welcome!

Dewa Jawa - thanks for the various varieties - yours was one of our favorites but we think its a great logo for a housing complex , more than for a consulting company.

Fabian #1 - nice design, not perfect for our needs.

Plum 74 #5, #6, - This is really nice but the #5 is not our company name so we think it may confuse people

Xpressions #1.1 - this was not as popular with my colleagues as some of the other designs.

Xpressions #4 - interesting indeed - still concerned aboutthe confusion of "5" versus "five".

Thanks to everyone - we are in the final stretch! :)

First, thanks to everyone who participated - you all did an excellent job!

We have narrowed it down to two finalists:

NHR #3.1
Logoholik #7

These ones received the highest scores when we surveyed our employees and external partners.

We are interested in seeing color and font variations of both of these.

Thanks!

We loved both of your designs and many of the others - but when we surveyed our business partners and employees the favorite was....

:tup:LOGOHOLIK VERSION #7:tup:

Thanks to everyone who participated!

Logoholik, We actually like your original font best.

One reason for asking for different colors was we wanted to see how it would look if the colors included green and red and reminded us a bit of the Google Colors. Our main business is working with the search engines - helping companies rank well etc. so we thought that if the colors reminded people of Google's colors even subconsciously that might be a good thing. We look forward to seeing this concept.

We also, of course, look forward to wrapping this up with you!

sam.

This is great!
One last thing - can we see how it looks with a darker Blue (more like the Google blue) - this may mean that the purple needs to change a bit too.

Also I like the shadow effect, but I looked at other logos and I did not see shadows used - what do you think?

Leclerk
01-14-2008, 08:31 AM
Somehow i like it with shadow better - it gives it something extra i think...
