Hello,

I have a small wedding photography business. I currently have a very generic logo I designed myself. I am removing part of the current name of the business (currently brian sprayberry photography - getting rid of the brian). I am looking for a logo that I can use for several years and eventually build branding around. I am very excited to see what you come up with!

You can see our website at: Sprayberry Photography (http://www.sprayberryphotography.com)

Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?

Sprayberry Photography

What type of product or service do you offer?

Wedding Photography

How long have you been in business?

Going on our 3rd year.

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?

I would like a logo to build branding around. A logo that is professionally designed and reflects the identity of our studio.

What are your long term goals?

World domination or at least a consistently outstanding product with years and years of satisfied customers.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?

I would like to decide on a logo by the 10th of January, if not sooner.

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience

We currently cater to engaged women in their mid 20s to mid 30s. They are predominently professionals but casual and not pretentious.

Who would you like to add to your audience?

We like our audience just as they are.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?

I would like a logo that that is somewhat casual but not something that looks like it could have been designed by me.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)

We currently use a taupe-ish color background (#444444) with white and light blue text and highlights(#688ab0). We are thinking of adding a sage green (#7e9f7c or something close to it.) We are probably going to be changing the background color to white but incorporating the taupe-ish color shoehow starting in the late spring.

http://www.briansprayberry.com/wp-content/images/colors.jpg

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?

No - absolutely open to suggestions here.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?

I would like our logo to say we're established but we're fun. Our style is very laid back.

What is your tagline or slogan?

We don't have a tagline or slogan.

Where will your new logo be used?

Website, stationary, on images, blog.

Competitive Positioning:
List competitive URLs if possible

Anne Marie Photography (http://www.annemariephotography.com/)

Roxy and Kai Photography (http://www.roxyandkai.com/)

Marcus Revilla Photography (http://www.marcusrevilla.com/)

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:

Fun, professional, laid back...

thanks,
Brian

I wanted to add a few thoughts after looking at so much of the awesome work that you guys do for others here.

I am absolutely open to new colors - I admit, those can be a bit boring. I am also feeling like I should add the keywords 'fresh' and 'clean' too. I am not looking for anything too busy. Cool, fresh, clean, easy going - anything to make them think they want to spend a lot of money with us so I can come back here and drop a lot more money on stationary and other cool designs. :)

thanks!
Brian

Hi Bill - Happy New Year to you too and thanks for being the first to jump in. My first thoughts are that it is a little too simple. I do like that it is clean. I see the ring you added to the S and that is an interesting icon but not really what I am looking for.

A few additional requests I would like to make. I would like some sort of icon in addition to the text so that I can use both together or both individually. Maybe something with the S and the P? I would also like to see something with a white background in addition to the taupe.

thanks,
Brian

Very nice work. Thanks so much for jumping in. I like where this is going, I am a little concerned about the Supermanish appearance of the logo though. Very much liking how you started out though. Thanks.

Kekepania,

I like where this is going with the S and the P in the circle, could we look at making the S more prominent but keeping the P to the right? Could we also look at some more color options?

thanks for all your efforts so far!

hi Kekepania,

I really like what you've got here but I am not head over heals in love with it if that makes any sense. I do like the color options you've offered and I like the font a lot. I am not really sure what kind of additional feedback to give you but I would love it if you kept your eye on this thread and offered more as you feel inspired.

I would like to keep the competition going and see some more ideas. Thanks for all your efforts so far.

Hi Plum74,

Thanks for jumping into the fray here. I think Version 1 is kind of interesting, although I am not really in love with the font. Version 2 is not working for me on any level.

One thing I really do like about Kekpania's offering is that it appeals very much to women, my primary clients, with it's curves and simplicity but at the same time I don't look at it as being overly feminine which is good since I am a guy. :)

I am not sure if that makes any sense or not but I wanted to throw that out there.

Hello xpressions,

Look at you just jumping in with your guns blazin! That first version a very stylized logo, and while I think it is really cool, it probably doesn't fit our casual, laid back approach to the business.

I REALLY like the drop shadow on the icon and while I also really like reflective nature of the first logo I am not sure if that fits our image either.

Version 2 is also cool but with the same issue regarding the icon being a little too progressive. While I am not sure I like the color scheme itself, I do really like the simple, clean, softness of the color. Maybe if there were some blue mixed in too?

Version 3 is just a little too 'tribal armband' for my taste.

I am really thinking I would like to keep the color scheme to a soft blue and green, with the option to easily change the color at some point down the road. This is probably going to end up working better with a white background as opposed to that taupe we are using now.

Thanks for the concept - I am anxious to see what else you have up your sleeve!

Hi Plum,

I am glad you are continuing to stay creative here! My feedback on the latest offerings is going to be a little hard to describe because my vocabulary is probably not expansive enough to convey it in design language. While I think we are looking for something simple and clean with the logo, when I look at the logo, it is interesting to me but it really looks simple as in something I might have done myself as opposed to something clean but professionally designed. Does that make sense?

Now that is not to say I am skilled enough to pull something like that off, it's just the appearance of it.

take care,
Brian

Hello designers!

Sorry I haven't been commenting on your designs, I have been at a conference and have gained a ton of specific insight on how I would like to brand the business going forward so I thought I would share the three words that I think symbolize who we are and who we want to attract.

Relaxed - Clean - Classic

Saying 'Clean' sounds a little funny but I am really more referencing the style more than wanting clean clients (even though we do want clean clients). :)

Here is an example of a logo I like. I don't like the logo so much for the pattern of the dots as much as I do the clean layout. In fact, I really don't like the dots, I just kind of feel the relaxed, clean nature of the logo as a whole if that makes any sense.

www.tyingtheknot.net

So to give specific feedback,

Kekepania - I still really like your Version 5 although I am still not crazy about how you are using the P. While I like the P, something about the way it is being used here just isn't clicking. I think Version 7 is really interesting too and I LOVE those blue and green colors and would kind of like to gravitate toward them.

Plum - I really am just not feeling any of the designs yet.

xpressions - Very nice work but probably a bit too trendy and stylized for what we're shooting for. Love the work though!

freetime - that is awesome how you used the S & P to make the heart and while I think it is really cool, it is probably just a tad too feminine for me as a guy. While I do work with my wife in the business, I am the primary photographer so a little less feminine would be great but I do like the idea...

thanks so much for all your hard work so far - I am looking forward to seeing what else you can come up with!

Ok, some more feedback...

freetime - interesting but not really working for me. I appreciate you offering the new blue and green but I really think I prefer the blue and green in Message # 26 from Kekeenia.

Jennifer - the first effort looks a little too industrial to me. The second is just not working for me on any level.

Taldo - I am not a big fan of the squirelly S logo and I think I like the text in lower case as opposed to uppercase.

In addition to mentioning the words Relaxed - Clean - Classic, I will throw two more out there that may help the direction a little... Timelesss and Personal.

Thanks so much to all who have offered options so far. I am still on the lookout for something awesome!

Kekepania - I am anxious to see what you come up with - yours have been some of my favorite to date.

Offbeat Design - just not feeling any of these offerings - they are kind of lacking an icon we could use.

Skyvie - I don't really like the font or the logo in this, they look a little too corporate and not so much representative of a photography business if that makes any sense?

Taldo - I am REALLY liking your Version 3 - LOVE the font and the logo might be the closest thing to what we are looking for so far. I really like this and would love to see so more options along this line.

Looking forward to more submissions!

Kekepania - I am not really feeling either of these two offerings although I prefer Version 8 to Version 9.

Some of the things I think I like albout Taldo's offering is the squared off icon, the color scheme, the fact that sprayberry is larger than photography and the gray color. I also kind of like the color of the icon. I definitely love the font for the text. I also like that it is a little abstract and kinda artsy looking. There is a kind of subtle strength to the design. What I don't like is that it doesn't really look as much like an S in the logo as I might like.

Is it ok to say that I would really like to see interuptations derived or inspried by what Taldo has created?

Kekepania,

I am intrigued by Version 10 but I don't like the S in the icon, much too Dr. Suess for me. I do like that you used the three different colors around the S though. Would it be possible to see some more S options in the icon?

Also with the text in sprayberry photography, would it be possible to spread the letters out a little more? I would also be interested in seeing some variations with the sprayberry in a lighter, less dominant color. Maybe switch the colors on photography and sprayberry?

Last thing, I like the green you are using but I am not a big fan of the aquaish blue. Would it be possible to chose a different blue, closer to a grayish baby blue maybe?

thanks,

I want to thank everyone for their participation so far. I know I am being a pain in the butt here but I just haven't found that design that is moving me yet. What I've done is compiled the 4 examples I like the most so far and detailed what I like and don't like about them to see if that can't get us where we need to go.

http://www.briansprayberry.com/Temp/Sprayberry-Photography-5.jpg

Kekepania - Version 5 - I really like the pendant look of this logo. I liked seeing all the color variations together and I liked the round composition because I think that appeals more to women.

What I don't like is the little P in the logo the way it is now. I would like the P to be in there some how, just not the way it currently is. I also think the logo is a little too simple overall. Maybe if there was a way to somehow give it some depth or texture? I am not in love with the font used for the S and the P in the logo.

Taldo - Version 3 - This is probably my favorite so far. I really like the blue on blue and I love the font and character spacing. I particularly like the way the dark gray in sprayberry plays off the blue from the logo followed by blue again in photography. I really like the artsy feel to this too. It is a simple logo but not so simple that it looks like something I could have designed myself - it is simple but looks professional.

What I don't like is that my wife says it looks a little too much like the logo of a movie studio currently being used. It is a little difficult to distinguish that it is an S in the logo and not just a stream or a creek. I also maybe don't like the specific shades of blue.

Kekepania - Version 8 - This one has a lot of potential. I really like the round composition and I really like the most of the S in the logo. This logo, with a little modification, could easily be the favorite.

What it would take to get it there is probably a little tough to describe though. I like the S in the logo, but where the line in the font trails off the logo on top, I think I would prefer to see it actually curve over somehow if that makes any sense. While I like the use of blue and green, I don't love that shade of blue and the way the colors are used in the logo looks a little too simplistic. Again, it feels like it is lacking some sort of depth or texture but I can't really put my finger on what it is. I also very much prefer the spacing and color of the font done the way Taldo did it in Version 3.

Taldo - Version 5 - I really like the way you mixed in three colors here. There is something about this that is VERY appealing. It also maintains most of the things I liked about your Version 3 in regards to the font spacing and coloring in the text.

What I don't like are the specific colors used. I am not opposed to using blue, yellow or green - it is those specific colors of blue, yellow and green that aren't working for me. Honestly, while I really like green and blue, I am absolutely open to moving to new colors if someone comes up with the right combination. The second attempt at this logo with just blues and greens just didn't seem to work as well as this one did. I also feel like the text portion of this logo lost a little something when PHOTOGRAPHY was done in the same color as sprayberry.

If there is something I am not saying or some direction you guys could use that I have neglected to give so far, by all means, ask me questions. I am still ABSOLUTELY open to new ideas and concepts on all aspects of the logo.

thanks again,
Brian

Hello - here is some more feedback...

Kekepania - I am really not feeling any of the new color options. I think the strongest submission of the late entries is Version 15, but I am really not feeling that so much either.

Offbeat - I am really not feeling Versions 3,4,5 or 6 but Version 7 is VERY appealing. The S is close to what we're looking for but not quite there, something about the heavy tail - other than that, this is really good logo. Can you show anymore options on the S?

Taldo - I know the change was subtle but I really see only a marginal difference between this and what you had prior.

xpressions - these logos are really nice. probably a little too stylized for what we're looking for. I really do like the diamond in Version 7 though. I also like the highlight you added to the top image in Version 7. The color of blue is a great choice too. Can you do anything with a more traditional yet artsy looking S?

More feedback...

Taldo - Version 9 is not bad. Could we center up the S and do anything more dynamic with the background in the color version? Maybe a highlight or a gradient or something to give is some depth or texture?

Offbeat - I kind of liked Version 7 but something about the S wasn't clicking. I can't believe you just turned it upside down. :) That wasn't it.

Kekepania - I kind of feel like we're getting away from the good stuff by focusing on two colors. Version 18 is interesting in black and white but the S still isn't quite working for me.

xpressions - I really like the 3D look of the logo in Version 8 but I don't really like the S and it feels a little weird like it is hooked over the top of the box. I think I would prefer to see a little bit more traditional placement of the S in the logo as well as seeing the logo box to either be a diamond or a box (or a circle). The way you have it kind of makes me feel like it is about to fall over if that makes any sense.

freetime - I am not seeing much in Version 7 that appeals to me. The best thing about the 3 logos is the shading and depth in the first one. The font on the S is not working for me at all.

thanks...

01-27-2008, 09:07 AM
Hello everyone...

We feel like we are really close here, we have just a few more options we would like to see.

We really like xpressions Version 9 with the diamond logo and the S in the font.

Some of the things we might like to see done differently. I really like the diamond shape you are using but I don't like the fact that it looks to be half way between a diamond and a square. Could you fix it so that it is a diamond and that the S fits entirely in it? Also, I would prefer the corners to be rounded off the diamond too. I am not such a big fan of the drop shadow but I do like the shading in the diamond.

My wife really likes the circle that Kekepania used in her Version 21.

She also really likes the S in Offbeat's Version 6 so if you have something along that line that would be great too.

One other thing that is not a deal breaker is, I am left handed and I would really like it if the font could tilt backwards slightly as opposed to forward like a right handed person wrote the font. I know that can be difficult to do so if it is not a really easy thing to pull off, don't worry about it.

Last thing, on the text part of the logo on xpressions Version 9, would it be possible to pull PHOTOGRAPHY up closer to sprayberry and use font spacing a little more like some of the others have?

thanks for all your hard work so far - it is very much appreciated!
Brian

I know I asked to see it tilted as thought it was done by a leftie but the S looks a little weird now. Can we maybe see it straight instead of tilted? Also maybe in a diamond as opposed to a square? Last thing, a couple more similar variations on that S as well as something along the lines of what you did in Version 9?

We are hoping we can make our decision today.

thanks,
Brian

Thanks to everyone for all their hard work and contributions. We have decided to go with Offbeat Design. We are still unsure whether we prefer something from Version 11 or Version 12. Would it be possible to see the examples in Version 11 with a little more space around the S in the icon? On version 12, we like A and C, would it be possible to see those with rounded corners and also both with and without a stroke around the outside edge of the icon?

Thanks again to everyone that offered ideas, it was a VERY hard decision to make...
