Hello everyone.

I had a great experience a few years ago with a lawn care logo and have since sent my wife over here for website design work. Now, my father has retired and is looking to do some photography work.

He's been an avid photographer for 40 years or more and has won some competitions and done some commissioned work, but it has always been on the side and via word of mouth. This is his first organized effort to turn this into a business.

There are some samples of various work here:

http://tedandamy.smugmug.com/gallery/1140609#236752879

We're in the process of uploading more.

Here's what we're looking for:

What text should be included in the main part of the logo?

DT Impressions

What type of product or service do you offer?

Fine Art Photography

How long have you been in business?

Six Months in business, over 40 years experience in photography

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?

Establish a Brand

What are your long term goals?

Sell enough photos to cover our overhead for the website and major photo shoots

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?

January 18

Audience Profile:

Interior decorators and designers

Please describe your existing audience

Same as above

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:

Professional, Creative and Reliable

What type of logo would you like?

Something simple, that suggests a cutting edge aesthetic for fine art photography.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)

Blue (pantone 289) and Gold (pantone 116). Likes the combination.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?

Definitely? No. I am envisioning a simple sketch of a camera, along the lines of these "drunken grizz" images:

http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=94206&stc=1

http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=94361&stc=1

The camera could be a 35mm SLR or an old view camera (the kind that stands on a tripod, with a bellows and cape over the photographer's head). The image could include a photographer, or not.

We'd like something that will work well in color and in black and white and that will work for a website, as well as business cards and polo-type shirts.

Thanks in advance for all the help!

Just giving this a bump, as we're getting down to one week to go.

It looks like there have been a fair number of hits on the thread, but no activity yet.

Variation.
Thank you.

Thanks.

These aren't bad, but I think I would prefer them without the solid square behind the camera.

Also, if you can think of any way to integrate the name into the logo, rather than just having it off to the side, that would be great.

Also, I'm leaning toward the third variation, with the gold camera and blue text.

Offbeat, I like your first design quite a bit and NHR, I like your second in blue, but the tripod legs get a little lost in the gold and blue variation.

I'm stuck at the office, so I'll have to wait until tonight to really study them, although I'll try to sneak a peak between meetings and see if any thoughts jump out at me.

Sorry, I had to remove mine. I just noticed NHR's last post and mine was similar. I'll work on a new idea.

Freetime, I definitely prefer the first design, with the photographer looking away from the logo, but it is a little difficult to tell what it is. I know it is a photograher and a camera, but I am not sure that will be obvious to non-photographers.

If you could make the camera more pronounced, that would be great. I would also be interested to see a variation with capital DT and the photographer to the left of the D.

Thanks.

Thanks again everyone.

NHR, I think I like the original design better, but the solid square does not work for me. It might be ok in a different shape, but probably more like a blob or a paint strip like the old "Synchronicity" album from the Police.

Link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synchronicity_(album))

Maybe the stripe/shape could "connect" the logo and the text.

Freetime, could I see v4, with capital letters and the camera to the left, facing left?

Offbeat, can you give me a couple of variations for the tripod for your first design?

Relevant, the first design is a little too detailed. It almost looks scientific. I do like the impressions running through the DT and prefer the PMS 116 to PMS 104. Can you do something with a simpler camera sketch? It does not have to be a view camera on a tripod, either. A 35mm camera is ok too.

Thanks again!

Offbeat, thanks for the change. I still prefer the original, but something is off with the tripod and I can't put my finger on it. Can you try it with the legs spread wider?

I also really like the v2 design; I just don't have anything to change there.

NHR, I like the design in message 24. Can you carry the yellow stripes across, through the name?

Freetime, thanks. That looks good.

Fabian, your design is nice and simple, which I like, but it does not say photography for me. Thanks for the submission, though.

freetime, could we try something with the photographer standing beside or leaning against the camera, rather than under the cape?

Thanks again.

Giant and Relevant, thanks for the submissions. They are both nice, but they don't say photography to me, although I can kind of make out a camera in Relevant's - I'm just not sure if others will see it (or if I'm really seeing it).

I'm not sure it needs to be a camera, either. That's just what occurred to me when I wrote up the requirements; probably because it's obvious. A flash going off, a picture frame or something else altogether might convey photography too.

Thanks to everyone who contributed. There are some really cool designs here.

We've decided to go with Offbeat Design.

Jeff,

We'd like to work with the v1/v3 design. I'm not sure if any revision is required, or which of the two variations we would go with yet. We're still kind of stuck on the tripod legs.

I'll talk to him and get some more feedback tonight, after I get home from work, around 7:00 Central Time.

Jeff,

I think we'd like to try a couple revisions on the tripod legs for that design. The first set seemed a little out of proportion or maybe just not spread wide enough to support the camera. The set in v3 were proportionally better, but they were maybe not in keeping with the camera, as they were pretty literal interpretations of tripod legs on a more abstract interpretation of a camera. The third set was just too big and thick, I think.

We'd be happy with the first or second set, if there was no opportunity for revision, so I think we're really close.

Thanks again.

Jeff,

Post 43 is getting really close, I think. Can you do one with the legs a little shorter (maybe halfway between the current lenght and the original length) and with the legs a little further apart at the bottom (maybe slide the left and right legs out 10 pixels each)?
