When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
My existing audience consists of urban boomers and gen x types with a fair amount of disposable income. They are active and spend time with their pets. They want their pets to be exercised when they can't be there and they want their pets to be well cared for in their own homes when they travel for work or vacation.
Who would you like to add to your audience?
More of the same. : )
I want to add more daily mid-day walks. I'd like to get more people in denser areas - for example several clients in one townhouse or condo development.
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
I have a logo that would be a good base to work from though I don't want the don't want the designer to be constrained. You can see it at www.rivercityrover.com. The skyline is the Richmond skyline. I like the logo quite a lot except for one thing, it doesn't imply pets or pet services or dog walking (bit of a problem, eh?)
What I like about it is that it is urban. I like that it is "boxed in." I like logos that are constrained in a square or circle or rectangle (or whatever) and not just spilling out in a free form way. I like that it has the actual Richmond skyline. I like the pawprint. What I don't like is that it is too "serious." I think it needs a dog - probably a cartoon dog. I've seen some silhouettes with it and didn't really like them. It needs some fun. I want people to see it and know it has something to do with dogs.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
Black and white is fine. If we do color - I'm leaning toward what is trendy now - that lime green and purple or reds and oranges. If you go to the site you will see a bunch of bright colors - www.rivercityrover.com. My plan is to also bid out the site as I did it and know it is not good, but I do like color with a lot of white space.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
Like I said, I kind of have a cartoon dog in my head. I have a dog and would love if he could be the model for the cartoon dog. His name is Java. I'm not sure how to upload a picture of him. I tried, so it might be here somewhere...
I know ya'll have done a ton of pet sitting logos so I looked through a bunch of the projects and picked out somethings I liked for various reasons. Maybe that will help.
Julie did some cartoon dogs for Pawfessional Pet Care that I liked. They were simple and fun.
I liked what Bill from Penny Lane did for Watch Dog Pet Sitting. It was a bull dog type cartoon dog looking at his watch. I liked it because it was bold. It was constrained in a circle with the dog's elbow just coming out of the circle. It was fun and you would really remember it.
I liked what Kassi did for The Exceptional Pet.
I checked out the Downtown Dogs spa and liked a couple of things there. They have a similar look / idea.
I liked the logo that Tatiana did with the dog on the bench. I like the shape and the idea and the city. The dog is not what I had in mind. I'd like a plainer - everyday kind of dog - a less stylish dog. I like the other dog you used but that logo is more free form and that doesn't appeal to me as much.
Of course I liked what Unorthodox did - the bone and cityscape - both with the stars and without the stars - it is right up my alley - it's symmetrical, it's bold, etc - it works for the spa but I still think I need a dog. : )
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
Urban, bold, fun, maybe a little trendy
What is your tagline or slogan?
I'm still working on that.
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
We're here to serve the urban animal lovers of Richmond, Va
Where will your new logo be used?
Everywhere - business cards, brochures, car signs, all my forms, web site, t-shirts, dog t-shirts, mugs (all over cafepress?)
Hopefully, I can get someone here to design all this stuff for me!
Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
That's not something I'd like to publish publicly.
List competitive URLs if possible
Other pet sitters in my area
www.wuffwalkers.com
www.bowwowkitty.com
What sets you apart from your competitors?
Targeted Message:
