Project Summary:

What text should be included in the main part of the logo?

d&g photography

I would also like to see other variations such as:

d and g photography - but I would prefer if the "and" is vertical like my current logo which can be found at www.dgphotos.ca

or

d+g photography

What type of product or service do you offer?

Wedding and portrait photography

How long have you been in business?

4 years

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?

a more sophisticated image to appeal to higher end clients

What are your long term goals?

appealing to higher end clients

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?

January 15th

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience

young, female, in their 20's and early 30's

Who would you like to add to your audience?

I would like to keep my audience the same

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?

I would like a logo that is feminine, colorful, modern, fun, fresh - but I want it to look clean and crisp to appeal to higher end clients

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)

I like fresh, vibrant, and modern colors. Currently I tend to use a fresh blue or green in my advertising, but I would be open to other colours - I would also like to be able to use the logo in black&white or grayscale without losing too much detail

I am planning on changing my website so it does not have to match the colours that are currently on there

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?

I like feminine touches such as a flowers or flourishes, I would prefer them to be light touches rather than bold - and it would be nice if I could have an icon that I can use separately, maybe one that incorporates "d&g" but it's not necessary

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?

modern, colorful, fresh, feminine

What is your tagline or slogan?

natural, playful, beautiful, romantic - but I haven't used that slogan at all lately.

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?

That I am modern, natural, fresh, and provide crisp colorful images

Where will your new logo be used?

On all promotional material such as website, advertising, etc.

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?

The competitors in my area have clean and simple logos but only a few have memorable ones that can easily be identified.

List competitive URLs if possible

These are not my competitors, however the following websites have logos that I like:

www.jsrphotography.com
www.angelicaglass.com
www.enpointephotography.com
www.emilieinc.com

What sets you apart from your competitors?

My personality and my work. My clients say that they hire me because I am approachable and make them feel comfortable, and that I take natural and fun photos that are vibrant and colorful.

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:

Modern, colorful and natural photography

I'm not sure if this will hurt or help in getting things going, but here is a selection of logos from the websites listed above that appeal to me the most (there are also a couple from this site as well):

Hi There, just wondering if any of the designers have any interest in this project? If not, that's okay I just need to know if I should start pursuing other avenues since I need the logo to be finished by mid next week.

Thank you so much for your ideas so far, I really appreciate it!

RelevantStudio - Thank you for your entries. I like the direction that the icons are going in, especially the ones in version #2 and #3 but it would be nice to see if the icon can be incorporated with the name somehow so that it's less similar to the way my logo is now. And I'm not crazy about the font, I want to move away from that look to a classier and simpler feel.

Fabian - Thank you for your efforts. I like the colour that you chose, but I'm not liking the type of flowers that are incorporated with the circle. Unfortunately, this version is missing something for me.

Thanks again to both of you for your time.

Hi Taldo, thank you very much for your entry. I like your concept quite a bit. I was wondering if I could see a version with shades of pink instead of the teal/blue? Or at least some brighter colors?

And could I see one that is more horizontal rather than square to fit my website design better?

Finally, I would like to keep the "d and g" part in lower case letters if possible.

Thanks again for your time and effort!

Hi Blesseville, thanks for joining in. I like the direction it's going. Could I see it with a sans serif font please? And could I see a blue or green color instead of the pink for the inside?

Thanks so much for the quick revision Blesseville!

The font is still not quite right - I do prefer the sans serif, but it's not working for me yet. Maybe it's how bold the "d" and "g" are, and the fact that the "&" appears bigger compared to the other letters.

Seeing the blue and green, I think actually like the pink color better, but my original problem was that the sides reminded me too much of kidneys, and the pink just highlighted that for me (I know, I'm sorry I'm so weird!).

Hi Taldo - thanks so much for the revisions, I like this one much better than the other version. However, I'm still not sold on the colors quite yet, I like the pink better than the more muted colors you had in the first version but the combination on it’s own is a bit too "little girl" and still not doing it for me. I'm not sure I like the "+" sign in this case, I think it looks too modern for the rest of the design. I would also like the d&g to be less bold and more fluid with the "photography" part, right now they look too separate to me. I would like the writing to be more similar to the one you made in this post: (message #39)

http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=307760&postcount=39

Actually, I really like everything about that logo that you had designed. To me, it has all the elements that I am looking for: feminine, modern, elegant, symmetrical. I’m assuming that you are not allowed to post the exact same design for mine, which is too bad because this is exactly what I’m looking for. Am I correct in that assumption, or are you able to give me that design? Because truly it would be perfect if you could plug my name into it.

If you are not able to give me the same one, then maybe it would help if I described what I like about it: I like that the icon can be used on its own and that the design inside is symmetrical and delicate, I like the serif font you used inside the icon with capital letters, and I like the name below in sans serif lower case letters that are the same size which is very fluid and modern. I also like the color combination – I think the brown helps the pink to be less girly. So, if there is a chance that you could design something like this for me, I would really appreciate it!

Hi Blesseville – thank you again for the revisions, I really appreciate all the time you’ve put into them. Unfortunately, the new ones are not working for me. I think they are a bit too simple for what I’m looking for.

Hi Kekepenia – thanks so much for joining in. I like your concept! I’m not crazy about the flowers, they are a little too chunky and close together – would it be possible to get different flowers in its place? And I think I would like a deeper shade of brown. I’m not sure how the shape of this logo is going to work on my website, but I like it so I don’t think I want to change it to a rectangle…

Hi Kekepenia, I like it a lot! Thank you for the revision. One last request, can I get the "d&g" a little less chunky too? Maybe a different font, one that matches the feeling of the swirl/flowers above (something scripty possibly)?

And is there a way of making the "photography" a little more bold?

glyphica

no problem! Here's a couple with your requested revisions :)

Thanks Kekepania, much better!

Sorry, I know I said my previous request was the last one, but I have one more that I just thought of  ...in your Version 4 (message 24) would you be able to replace the "&" symbol with a vertical "and" using the same font/size/orientation as "photography" (but keep it in white)? and then maybe bring the "d" and "g" closer together. Thanks so much! :)

p.s. my apologies, I just realized I kept misspelling your name in my previous posts!

I am able to post this because the client in the other logo thread likes one of the other designs. :)

Hi Carol, that's great news for me then! :)

A few small changes: Could you please change the DGP to D&G? I just want to see how that looks instead.

Also, could you switch the vertical "and" in the name to an "&".

And finally, in the original design there was a second line in the name (that read "photography"). Could you add my url in its place, under the "d&g photography" part: www.dgphotos.ca ? I like the way that the font was all caps and stretched out in the original logo so if you could keep it the same that would be great.

Thanks so much!

wonderful! Thank you so much Taldo! The icon is perfect!

One last request, could you play around with the name below a little to make it more proportional?

Please go ahead whatever you think looks best. Examples that I was thinking of is making the "&" in the lower case d&g below a bit smaller to match the top and bottom to the rest of the line so it doesn't look so huge (e.g. the top and bottom of the "&" match the top and bottom of the curved part in the "d"). Also, please change the url until you feel it looks good - making it larger, using lower case/upper case - up to you, but right now I'm not sure if it's legible enough.

Other than that, it looks great!
Thanks again! :)

Here are some options. You might want to consider option "C" so you don't have too many "&" signs in the logo.

You're right Carol, option C is the best one! Thank you again for everything :)

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who participated, I can't tell you all how much I appreciate all the time and effort you placed into your designs. I was very impressed with all your talents.

I have decided to go with Carol Taldo's design, thank you Carol for accommodating my request!

I do have a small revision for you Carol, can I see your Version 5 C with the vertical "and" in the name in lower case letters? I like the way it looks now with the uppercase, but I would like to see the lower case as a comparison if you wouldn't mind.

Once I decide on the "and", we will be ready to go.

Thank you so much!

Well Carol, I should learn to just shut up because I prefer your version with the uppercase letters! :D

So, I'm ready to go whenever you are, I choose version 5C.

I have a quick question, is it a flat file or can I change the colors in the future myself? Oh, and also, do I get a black & white version as well in the files in case I need it for custom dies?

Thanks again, it was a pleasure working with you!
