(Admin code added by Palmer - 2UR89773VT431920N)
I have no clear idea on what I want for my logo and I've spent a lot of time browsing this site, and others, for ideas. I am very much open to ideas of all sorts (except cutesy!).
Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Kristin Anderson Photography; my initial are KJA and they may be incorporated, too. This logo will be for my site www.kjaphotos.com but will also be added to my ocean images: www.oceansbyanderson.com It would be nice to have two pieces: one the logo part only that can be applied to a photo or frame and one with the logo and word incorporated.
What type of product or service do you offer?
Portraits: kids, babies, maternity, engagements, families: Weddings; Underwater and nature
The logo must be flexible enough to work with any of the many types of images I create.
How long have you been in business?
Under 1 year
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
Memorable; create an appeal, room for evolution and growth
What are your long term goals?
Grow my photography business to a full time entity.
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
31 Jan 2008
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Families; young couples - portraits & weddings;
30s - 60s for underwater and nature
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
Not cutesy. Polished. Unique. Striking. Interesting. Friendly, not strict corporate. Something partially flexible as my business and photography is constantly expanding and evolving.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
I think I would like to keep with ocean colours - Tiffany Blues, sea greens & blues. Obnoxiously, I also love construction worker orange  You can see some of the colours on my sites www.oceansbyanderson.com and www.kjaphotos.com. I have attached my current business card front and I do like the colour, more or less.No colours are set in stone, though. Must also work as black/white and transparent for watermark on images.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
None, but I don't like cameras, lenses etc. It should be more abstract than concrete.
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
Fun, spirited, professional, sleek, outgoing.
What is your tagline or slogan?
n/a
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
Gorgeous, polished, free-spirited non-stuffy photography you will love forever!
Where will your new logo be used?
Web site, on images both people and underwater/nature, letterhead, business cards...everywhere.
Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
n/a - new market in my area.
Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Dynamic...
Project Update: The deadline has been updated to Jan 21st to meet a print deadline.

Thanks, Kekepania...I was beginning to worry a bit ;)
I'm not fond of the font in the little box at all.
I was thinking maybe trying to incorporate something beachy, like waves maybe, in the stand alone element. Hopefully with my initials in it. Might not work. I don't want that to be TOO beachy - like no sea star - but more abstract?

Taldo - I'm kinda liking the waves :) Not liking the KA really - seems plain, not special.
And my name is spelled k-r-i-s-t-i-n ;)
I'd like to see some more variations on the element - boxes are nice, but maybe a bit rigid...

giant - thanks!
I do very much like the fluidity of the idea! I don't think the initials look quite polished enough in the square though - they look a bit rough. Don't like the font on my name, I think I'm likely to be a sans serif girl.
I like that you used a beachy colour but it's a bit flat to me - I prefer something more vibrant.

giant - I'm liking these much more with the smoother initials.
I'd like to see more variations of fonts for the lettering and the colours in the boxes of all the designs, if possible.
I'd also like to see some more input from more designers, please.

beach and sky
alcina
01-17-2008, 04:56 PM
offbeat - I like the beach and sky concept. I'm not 100% on the colours as I don't want them to look dull. A friend suggested: 637 with 7544 maybe?
Can I also see these with the element to the side instead of on top? I'm concerned that having it on top makes the whole thing a bit unwieldy for the top of web sites and the like. Ideally, I'd like the flexibility to be able to move each piece around to suit the specific needs of the media.

offbeat - I like the bright colour, I'm not 100% on the bottom colour. I think your first one was nicer, but I'm concerned it might print up muddy/dull? More ideas? I'd also like to see some alternative fonts...I like the flowing theme here, but I'm concerned that it may be hard to read, especially when it gets small.
giant - wow! I am really liking a more solid colour - the others look a little tie-die or sponged and aren't working for me. I'd also like to see what a more free flowing font looked like - it might be too much but I'd like to see.
taldo - would still like to see some variations on the initial as I do like this wave.
So far from everyone, I like the blue hues in post #5 and the code #s 306, 3135, 322 and 637. I'd also like to see what the lighter 317 turns out like.
I'm also still open to more ideas if anyone has any.

Using a standard font for the name will help at smaller sizes. This sand color is somewhere in between. Shouldn't print muddy at all.

Taldo - my name is still spelled wrong ;) KRISTIN. Thanks. Still not crazy about the KA font in the box, though I do kind of like the a. Would like to see the wave perhaps in a different location and I would prefer a longer format rather than a stacked one.
giant - can I see this design with the box to one side of the name instead of on top and maybe with two tone colours in the spirit of sand and water/sky somehow? I don't like the fonts that slope to the left. I like this abstract idea but the initials and colours just aren't quite there.
offbeat - I am liking the simplicity of the ka box, but I'm still not 100% on the fonts.
Kekepania - I like the swirly. Could I see a few variations on the font. I like this one more or less so more in the same vein. Can I also see it sized for a business card (small!).
Everyone - is it possible to see these also on a very dark grey/black background as that will be the colour of some of the areas I use this on.

Jeff
The font used for my name mostly. I actually like the first one better than the plainer one so I'd like to try to find something that works small and large.
I also like the fonts in Kekepania's #18 and Offbeat's #11 & #!2

Here is another "wave" idea
alcina
01-25-2008, 10:25 PM
Taldo - pretty! I think I'd like to keep my full name outside of the element so I can use them separately. I also think it would help when the size is reduced.
offbeat - I like the beach and sky theme, but not so much when it goes to black and white. I would like to see it without colour, but keeping the beach and sky somehow.
I've been cruising around looking at some alternative colours for the various designs and on top of the ones I mentioned in my previous post I also like PMS305u 3115 and 325
I'd like to get all of the suggestions up ASAP as I need to make some decisions early in the week! Thanks so much to all of the designers so far and if there are other designers lurking (or if one of the current ones has had an epiphany), I'm still open to suggestions.

Taldo - I like the wave idea but it's not quite there with the graphic. I would want my name outside the box and only the initials in the box.
Offbeat - the rectangle with the initials in it and beach/sky is really nice, but I'm not sure of it in bw. It totally loses that beach/sky feel and that's essential to it, I feel. Is there some way to save that? And I think the one in message #40 is gorgeous - do you have some variations on that one?
Giant - I keep coming back to this logo, it's so close.
Kekepania - I like the swirly, but there's just something again not quite there. I wish I could put my finger on it more precisely as I know that isn't helpful direction from me!
Everyone - Can I also see your design with my existing font? it's called Saginaw. I don't know that I'll keep it, but I would like to see the offerings with it just in case.
Also for the bw, this will be used on photographs as a watermark so any individual elements need to be done in a way that will work. I will use black and white (depending on the image) with reduced opacity on the images.

offbeat - nope those don't work. Too busy and it's the rectangle that makes it work.
taldo - hmmm another very nice idea. I think I would like both initials, though. And it's Kristin with an "IN" instead of an "en" ;)

Taldo - any luck with the two initials?
Offbeat - I like 13 but would like to see the wavey K a little more delicate or thinner, I think.
Giant - can I see yours in a tall rectangle?
Am I correct in thinking that once I choose a designer we can then nut out the exact font and colours or do we need to do that at this stage before I choose?

It kind of got too big and clunky when I tried to do both initials with the waves inside of them. Instead, I came up with this elegant way to portray waves and your initials. The icon could be used as a watermark with or without the box :)
alcina
02-04-2008, 07:51 PM
offbeat - hmm, no, that didn't work. It doesn't look as sensuous now. The original just isn't quite right either, though.

This one you did for bcap is more along the lines of what I am considering, i think

though it is too much for me.
offbeat - not liking this one. That first swirly K is really striking, there's just something about it that isn't quite right, though. I thought it was too clunky but maybe the skinnier version was just too skinny and not curly enough?

Didn't mean to neglect you! I'm really into version 2.9
I'd like to see the tips of the bottom parts of the K inside the box - just delicately and unobtrusively, don't make the tips all curly or anything, maybe taper off (or not, I'm not sure) - instead of going to the edge. I like the two colours to be just top and bottom instead of alternating as in 2.8. I'd like to see the lighter colour from (or similar) from a in 2.9 with a sandy colour (like b or similar) on the bottom.

Why does the colour in 3135 look so different between your design and the ones elsewhere (such as in post #68)? I like them both, but they are the same colour code!
I'd like to see the following, or similar, blue green colours: 637, 306, 3115U (this seems different than the 3115?), and 325 (I would like to see a couple of these more sea-greeny colours as most of the others are more blue).
For the sandy colours, can I also see 7503, please.
I do not like these sandy colours: 000, 7405, 7509, 458 - some of them are too yellow/mustardy.
I'd also like to see a few - just to get an idea if I actually like this or not - with my name in the sandy colour and photography in the blue/green?
giant
02-08-2008, 09:50 PM
Yes, Every PC have a different system about the colors... Every system can't make the colors (as this situation PANTONE colors) as really same as PANTONE MACTH SYSTEM.
But the best result of the PANTONE colors is seeing the real table or book which is PANTONE MACTH SYSTEM book/table.
U at the behind 3135 is for colors Uncoated Pantone.
3135 is Solid Coated Pantone.
OK, I'll make the revision.

OK, we have a little problem. The colours I am seeing on my screen in no way resemble the pantone colours in the swatch book. I don't know exactly why. My monitor is calibrated and I use firefox so my colour space is sRGB. I had to have a friend look at the swatches as there are no swatch books available where I live.
When I printed onto my Canon pixma printer, the colours looked very similar to what I saw onscreen, but my friend says that they won't really print that way from a pro printer.
How close are these colours when printed?
He has given me the following pantone colours that he thinks come closest to the blue/greens that I am actually seeing in your last post and the sandy colour that I see in post #12, despite the numbers in the more recent posts looking right on screen.
Please try this combo. And please suggest some sand colours that are close...I think something like 4675 or 4685 or maybe even 4665; 468, 467
He suggests Sand as 4495C
a is 3125C
b is 312C
c is 305C
blu/green maybe 629, 630, 7466, 7467319
Is it possible to get the colours for the web, too, as in my brief I said this would be used on the web and for stationery so it will be, I think, two different colour types?
giant
02-11-2008, 09:11 PM
for make it right...when you agree with the pantone colors, I'll save it as RGB and CMYK colors files... so for the pro printer will recognize it as a CMYK (so, the code will be same every where you take the files), and for the web you can use the RGB files.
But for make it very very right, just ask the printing company about the PREVIEW of the files/images for printing ready (as CMYK).
Yes, for RGB and CMYK is different...
RGB mostly use for web (monitor looking, because monitor just had 3 kind of colors, Red Green, and Blue).
and CMYK mostly use for printing (because pro printing use 4 color, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black).
And about the printing/pro printing, it can't make a 100% as it's code/as our see from the files, and from one to another printing company have a different system for printing.
The simple example is just like this:
comparison for a Soneh TV and Philix TV, which is previewing a same images of red rose, the colors will be different from one TV to the other TV,although we know both of the TV is a big/pro company.and both of TV can't make the color as the real color of the image (REAL ROSE), the both of the TV just can make the color closely to the color of the real images (REAL ROSE).
Maybe you can understand from this example.
OK, I'll make the revision soon... :)
Thank You.
