Admin code added by Abby - 5TB67679FG6540544

Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
"Quidnuncs.net"

What type of product or service do you offer?
online membership based community

How long have you been in business?
< 3 months

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
I like breaking Quid∙nuncs into two syllables, because it is somewhat hard to spell and pronounce, however most people will see/read it online. I want people to ask "What's a quidnunc?!?" ...then learn more about my site, then say to themselves "That sounds like me!" Then join my site. A 'quidnunc' is one who knows or pretends to know all that is going on. "Quidnuncs.net" (plural) implies several people who know what's going on, and part of a social (.net)work. I want members to know if they join Quidnuncs.net they'll know all that is going on through an extensive calendar of events.

What are your long term goals?
Increase membership. Increase number and quality of events.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
1/17/08

Audience Profile:
Active people, male/female, 20-40 yrs old,

Who would you like to add to your audience?
anyone who identifies with the brand

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
Because I'm targeting an active audeince, I want the logo to look progressive, modern, fast-paced - like it's going somewhere. I want the logo to be simple, not complex. It could be the name and slogan in italics (implying its in a hurry to go somewhere) or it could be a person looking at the globe (looking for something to do). Because its a social network, I would like to see an option with 2 or more people (implying depth of the network, similar to Myspace's logo) This may be accomplished through a "pyramid" design (of profiles or people stacked on top of one another), or connected members forming an "O" shape, (implying a connection to people around the world, etc).

I like breaking Quid∙nuncs into two syllables, because it is somewhat hard to spell and pronounce. Consider something like this: "Quid∙nuncs"

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
I want to use a maximum of 3 colors. Two would be preferred (excluding black and white). Use of positive & negative space would help keep logo simple.
blues & greens (for the globe)
-or-
red & black (stronger colors)
-or-
hunter green & purple

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
a person (or persons) and a globe. Globe should show north america. Person should be ethnic-neutral

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
"Things to do. People to see."

What is your tagline or slogan?
"Things to do. People to see."

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
I want them to join my site, and participate in a wide range of events and activities. I want them to feel like a part of something...I want them to feel like a "quidnunc"

Where will your new logo be used?
Primarily (1) Web, (2) stationary. secondary (3) embordary, hats, t-shirts, etc

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
Myspace.com - I like that the simple image vantage point implies depth to the network

List competitive URLs if possible
www.myspace.com
www.eventful.com
www.upcoming.org

What sets you apart from your competitors?
my competitive advantage ;)

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company: (1) one who knows, or pretends to know all that is going on...or (2) a network of people who know or pretend to know all that is going on.

Thank you all.

Symbol shows connectivity and community while also forming a stylized Q.

hello all.
I appreciate the original concepts, and encourage others to keep coming with the original concepts. However, I've not seen anything that incorporates (1) a person or (2) a globe (3) anything in italics or (4) anything (besides SquareLogo) that implies any kind of network. Please consider these thoughts in your designs.
Thank you,

Hello all:
Here are a few comments:

(1) I like how SquareLogo used the 'dot' between Quidnuncs. This is more effective, IMO, than using different colors for Quid & nuncs. However, the 'dot' and color change may also be an effective combo.
(2) I like how Logoholik added ".net" and "Things to do. People to see" ...this is critical to the brand.
(3) I am still looking for the right combination of (1) person and (2) globe.

Here are a few suggestions:
(1) Make .net a little smaller, and move it above the "Quidnuncs" to the right
(2) All logos should have "Things to do. People to see." below the main logo.
(3) Consider the font below, or something very similar, in future designs.

The following image was made independently, courtesy of The Logo Company.net
http://thelogocompany.net/downloads/concepts/QuidnuncsnetD16aR01aP01AL.jpg

I especially like the font and the location of ".net" - it is modern and progressive. Very clean. I also like "Things to do. People to see." ...I am not all that satisfied with the image of the man. The use of the positive/negative space in this image gives an awkward appearance - ie: black face, white hands. I'd rather the whole image be ethnic-neutral. I also think the faded white-hands would be hard to print and/or emborder.

Has anyone seen Merrill Lynch's Logo?
http://www.ml.com/images/ml_brand.jpg
I'd like a person drawn as simply as ML's bull. Almost stick-figure-like.

Future suggestions:
Create a simple man holding a globe (reference AT&T or TXU's logo), looking for things to do.

Clearly, I want to avoid any similarities between AT&T, TXU and ML...but I want my design(s) to be equally simple.

Thank you,

Blesseville

"Q" as globe carrying arm. :)

Blesseville,
Consider the following:
Use a font similar to the in the font/pic I provided above, then taper the man's arm and legs (like the Q). Also, make a white line thru the Q - like you've done in the globe.

Hi Blesseville,
That's not quite what I had in mind. I like the oringinal man (running) better. And (for now) a solid color thru Quidnuncs.

Also, notice the line thru the "Q" in this mock-up.

http://www.impelnetwork.com/kelly.gossett/quidnuncs4.jpg

I still like 'the logo company's' font better. I'm not sure what it is, but it is very clean looking and modern. Do you have access to it?

Sorry for forgetting the line. Hope you like this one better.

If i could be of help - that logo is using plain ol' Times New Roman straight out of the box. I would have to say that modern hardly goes with it, maybe retro?

Logoholik,
I'm open to any suggestions. Can you throw out a few font-only suggestions so I can compare? I'm leaning more toward a serif font. I dont know why...just that the others didnt really look right to me. Again, if you have a few ideas, please type a few out.

Blessevile,
Consider making the "Q" a few sizes bigger, so that the line goes thru the middle of the letter, and across the top of the other letters. Now, it looks like the line thru the Q goes thru the upper part, which looks a little awkward.

Also, I dont really like the man running 'away' from the word. Try flipping him around, and/or placing him on the right side of the logo.

Thanks!

Blesseville -

Try V. 3.3 #2 with the following variations
(1) in italics
(2) with the man at the end of the word
(3) at the end of the word in italics

By flipping the man (facing right) we also flipped the "Q" in his hand...this defeated the original purpose, I'm still undecided on his orientation.
Please provide one in regular text and one in italics

Blesseville,
The font still looks a little too 'bulky'. In the image I posted earlier, it seemed to look a little cleaner.

Also, Currently the hex background color of my site is #336699. This looks very similar to the blues in your design. Using this background color, can you come up with a few different schemes? Possibly using the inverse colors, etc.

Thank you

Try using an orange dot between Quid & nuncs like so:

Quid∙nuncs

Hi blesseville,
my only suggestion at this point would be to make the 'dot' a little smaller.

It is subtle, but I *really* like that you moved 'Things to do. People to see' under and closer to Quidnuncs.

Can you tell me the hex # of the orange? I'd like to see how that looks with the site colors I have.

Thanks!

Thank you for feedback. Here's a smaller dot. :)

HEX code of orange is ED9B4F.

Hi Blesseville,
Can you bring Quid & nuncs a little closer together. I want it to look like one word, with 2 syllables.

Thanks

Blesseville,
I think I like the man on the left better. He's no longer holding the 'Q' like we originally discussed...but he seems to be running into the page, rather than away from/off the page, and the orange seems more evenly distributed across the logo with him on the left. Lets go with that variation.

In addition to the note above (bring Quid & nuncs a little closer together to look like one word, 2 syllables), I'd like to see a few different color variations.

What colors are you currently using? It looks a little darker than 336699 (the background I'm using).

Background - ??
Orange - ED9B4F
Shadow - ??
White - FFFFFF (??)

Consider the following:
background (blue) 336699
text (orange) FF9900
Shadow - ?? whatever you think looks good
White - ??

Also - Do you use a particular program/tool to arrive at the color combinations?

Thanks!

Hmm, I think the colors now match yours. Well, I don't use any program for color combinations.

Blesseville,
I think the design is ok now. I still need to decide on a color scheme. Please tell me the background color you used in version 8.0 as well as the 'royal blue' color you used in version 9 so that I can build a few CSS templates...this will help me decide on a final color.
Thanks!

Blesseville

V8.0 Gray: #3D5C71
V9.0 Royal blue: #073779

By the way, would you please confirm if you are going with this design, so that the admins can take necessary actions on the thread. Thanks :)

Blesseville,
I dont have photoshop, so I would prefer to get the colors worked out before we finalize the deal. I would like you to include a PSD file in the deliverables, though, in case I make a major site change in the future.

For the current image, I'd like to see Version 9, with the #336699 background, but use a darker shadow, like the shadow in Version 8. A light shadow doesnt look right.

Thanks,

Blesseville

Blesseville,
I've not received any private messages. My inbox is "0" for total and unread messages.

Before you send, I'd like to make one more adjustment:

The orange in both blue & white background is too light and hard to read. Can you
1) make it bold
0r
2) adjust contrast, brightness, saturation, etc to make the orange stand out more in each situation? (it may be a different contrast, brightness, saturation, etc for the blue background and different for the white background).
or
3) anything else to make 'Things to do. People to see.' easier to read.

Thanks!
