Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Paul Glavin photography

What type of product or service do you offer?
Wedding and portrait photography

How long have you been in business?
Just starting out

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
I'd like to build an identifiable image, something that becomes recognisable

What are your long term goals?
To grow my business to the point that I can make it a full time venture

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
14th April

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Prospecitve brides and grooms, those wanting portraits. I'm not aiming at a specific level of audience at the moment

Who would you like to add to your audience?
More customers ;)

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?

A clean logo. nothing too flowery. I'd like to have a strong element of the logo that can be used on it's own to identify them as mine

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
No

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
The only thought I've had is that my initials are the same as the 2 words that make up photography, so maybe a play on that, but I'm not the designer here!

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
professionalism, high quality, stylish

What is your tagline or slogan?
I don't have one - yet

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
I'd like to get across that I'm a fun but easy going type of person

Where will your new logo be used?
Website, business card, stationery - none of which exist so this logo will be the first building block- and as mentioned above an element to be used as an image identifier

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Stylish, modern, elegant

Giant,

thanks for your efforts!
I'm not feeling v1 at all, it's difficult to work out that it's PG, it looks more like a PC.
v2 is much better though but I don't like the font
I'm not a fan of the colouring, it either needs to be more in your face or more muted and definately not the yellowy sort of colours you've used.

Thinking more about colours, reds, blues and greens are good, anything that stands out a bit, but I also would like to see the more subtle muted colours.

Thanks again Giant,

v2.1 just isn't doing it, it feels too sterile there's just no warmth or feeling to it. I don't know if it's the font or the colours or both.

v3 I'm liking where you are going with that

Kekepania,

The main logo is too plain for me but I like the text the way you've done it, the bold surname is a nice touch.

Deanna,

Thanks for the design, it's just not really what I'm looking for.
For me it comes across as a corporate blue chip logo.

Can I see it with my name in lowercase.

Thanks for the revision.

Thanks, I'm definately prefering the lower case but none of your other ideas are working for me.

Any ideas from anyone else?

Dewa,
Thanks again for trying, I just don't think I'm liking the whole cryptic PG idea you're working with.

Freetime,
very nice. Could I see it with some different colours. I like the idea, just not the colours.

Offbeat,

thanks. I like what you're doing but there's something I can't put my finger on that leaves me cold about it.
The logos that I'm liking all have an intertwined element of some sort, freetime's is the box around the l, kekepania's is the linking of the p&g. The thing I don't like about freetime's is it's too masculine and the majority of people that will be looking at my logo are women.

Does that help at all?

The text is great, but the box doesn't seem to fit.
I've seen you do some things in the past with 3 boxes and a theme running through them, is there anything that you could do along those lines that refer to weddings/portraits?

Wow,

where did they all come from!
Freetime,
I like the tilted box versions in v4 and v3

Deanna,
the G looks too much like a J and one thing that bugs me more than anything is mis-spelling of my surname, it's a shame as it's a nice concept.

Offbeat,
I'm loving v6, I haven't had a chance to look at all of them in detail so I'll give some more feedback shortly

paulglavin
04-03-2008, 12:19 PM
Offbeat,

I'm not a fan of the aperture look in v9 and v4, v8 doesn't work for me either, there's no distance to the elements of the p and g. I like the combined look from kekepania's v1, I can work out what each element is without having to look for it.

At the moment I'm liking Kekepania's v1, Freetime's v3 and Offbeat's v6 and v7.

You're all coming up with some great stuff and not making it easy for me.

V10 is a bit too cryptic for me, I had to think to work out what it was.
v11 is different, I like that it's clean, and simple. I'm not sure on the colouring though.

Teldo,
The P/G split doesn't work for me. It's too subtle.

Dewa,
Thanks for keeping at it. This one isn't me.
To give you an idea, I'm liking Deanna's v3 and Kekepania's v1. They're the ones I keep going back to and the sort of designs I'm liking

paulglavin
04-10-2008, 09:24 AM
I saw a logo today that I quite liked the concept of.

Translated across to my name it would have:

Paul Glavin
photography

and on the right hand side the P and G in a messy brush style script with the tail of the g forming an underline for the text on the left.

Deanna,
too messy/hand drawn for me.

Carol,
Were you looking on the same place as me? It was that font exactly.
I like the concept behind it but I'm wondering if there's a way to make it a bit more clean and modern? Also, I think I prefer the name in lower case.

Freetime,

v7 is great, the only problem I'm having with it is the g in the paulglavin. It doesn't look right, it's almost as if it's from a different font. I think it's the serif at the top of the g that's doing it. (it looks much better with the l though :))

Giant, v13 and v14. They seem over complicated

Taldo, I prefer v3, the brush font is good but the name font needs something extra to make it stand out a bit.

Offbeat, v11 is much nicer than v12. I don't like the serif on the P in v12. The PG doesn't work as a unit on it's own though.

freetime
04-11-2008, 04:51 AM
Sorry about the 'l'! I knew something didn't look right.

Hopefully this 'g' looks better. Thanks!

paulglavin
04-11-2008, 05:36 AM
Freetime,

I think it looks better, I'm not sure though!
There's just something not right about that g, my eyes are drawn to it straight away. It just doesn't seem to fit. I'm guessing that it's not from the same font and the one that is doesn't have the closed loop on the g to pass through?

freetime
04-11-2008, 06:13 AM
No problem. I'll revamp that sometime today!

Offbeat,
too feminine and curly for me.

Taldo,
The colours don't work for me.

freetime

Actually, it is the same font. I'll rework it and see if I can try a different font. Thanks!

v9 I changed the font.

Jennifer, I will do.
I just need confirmation from Freetime as I'm happy with the design. I just need to know about the colours.

freetime
04-17-2008, 03:52 PM
The only format you will be able to change the colors is the vector eps format. That would require Illustrator.

Do you need to see some other colors?

paulglavin
04-18-2008, 12:02 AM
Freetime,
that's not a problem I have illustrator, I just don't know how to use it :)
I love the colours of this one, but wanted to do something slightly different when I use it as a watermark. I was going to put a semi transparent black bar over the photo and have the logo in the grey and replace the green with white. (If it works)
