DNCbay.com needs a logo for a temporary auction site

Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?<o:p></o:p>
*DNCbay or DNCbay.com

What type of product or service do you offer?<o:p></o:p>
*We have a niche online auction/classifieds site specifically designed for the 2008 Democratic National Convention where people can post or bid on items related to the DNC event: Lodging, Services, Coupons, etc.

How long have you been in business?<o:p></o:p>
*We are a Start up project

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?<o:p></o:p>
*We need to convey a historic, patriotic, Jeffersonian feel. We need to represent a “Bay” in some manner like having Hilary, Jefferson, Franklin &/or Obama all in a boat together…or something like that? I know it sounds corny but we need to somehow represent democrats and a “Bay” (maybe using the donkey logo?) The Bay is reminiscent of the Boston Tea Party or could be illustrated as a “Bay” of Democrats.

What are your long term goals?<o:p></o:p>
*this is a temporary site that may have some long term ramifications…

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?<o:p></o:p>
4/5/2008

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience<o:p></o:p>
*News media, camera personnel, politicians and their staff, Hollywood types, as well as locals wanting to rent their homes, rooms, services, etc to the forementioned folks

Who would you like to add to your audience?<o:p></o:p>
*NA

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?<o:p></o:p>
*Not sure?

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)<o:p></o:p>
*Reds, whites and Blues or Blue-Grays…of course…mostly blues though

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?<o:p></o:p>
*See above

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?<o:p></o:p>
*See’s above

What is your tagline or slogan?<o:p></o:p>
*We don’t have one yet

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?<o:p></o:p>
*See’s above

Where will your new logo be used?<o:p></o:p>
*it’ll just be the header graphic for our website

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?<o:p></o:p>
*Our competitors are Corporate Housing, Real Estate Management companies, and craigslist

List competitive URLs if possible<o:p></o:p>
http://eventhotelrooms.com (http://eventhotelrooms.com/)<o:p></o:p>
http://craigslistdenver.com (http://craigslistdenver.com/)<o:p></o:p>
http://www.corporatehousingsolutions.com/2008-Democratic-National-Convention/<o:p></o:p>
http://dncrentals08.com/

<o:p></o:p>
What sets you apart from your competitors?<o:p></o:p>
*We offer a different channel for folks wanting to rent out their houses or sell other products and services for the DNC. Many of our competitors are taking 40% or more in order to “manage” these transactions for people…except craigslist of course. But with craigslist you have people that are asking way to much for their places. Our concept is market driven…more organic…more fair for everyone.

<o:p></o:p>
Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:<o:p></o:p>
*Special Event and Temporary Auctions<o:p></o:p>
*We would like to be able to separate out the logo from the header graphic so we can use it in other mediums…collateral, etc.
*Would like the final art in an editable format…we have the CS2 versions of photoshop, acrobat and Illistrator as well as Microsoft Publisher…
Colors: We need this done in blues or blue/greys, whites and reds

I like it. We need to better represent a "bay" by adding some water elements to the logo.

Those are all great. Again, we need to represent a bay in some slightly more obvious manner...Think the Boston harbor/Tea Party or a "Bay" of democrats in Denver or the Mayflower. Franklin and Jefferson are famous Democrats who's likeness could be used.

I like giant's direction Maybe if we could move the "bay graphic" over, wrapping it arounbd the "y" of "Bay" and make the donkey standing on top of the word "Bay"...

Freetime...I like V4 w/o the star. The star is actually a cool effect but not for this application. I saw a kicking donkey today that would be cool to use it kicking at the "y" and maybe make the ripples also fade off and down to the right?
Thanks

giant...I like your first attempt the best...you really shouldn't take any more advice from me ;^)...It's close but i's still not quite there...maybe it's a scale thang? Making the donkey smaller...using the kicking donkey??

I really appriciate everyones contributions!

I like it giant. I think we need to Change DNC to Blue cause blue is traditionally the color of Democrats and the bay to red. I also drove by a political sign the other day where the whole donkey was colored like a waiving American flag which might look cool. I'll try to get a picture of it today.

Many Thanks,

Jonathan

Eziey and Relevant! Thanks for joining in. Eziey I like your 2nd version the best. The donkey is cute...maybe a little to cute...he looks a little depressed like Eeyore from Whinny The Poo. Us Democrats want to think of our DNC Convention is going to be a "kick in the ***". So we would want more of a "bad-***" logo.

Relevant. I like version 2 of yours the best. It might be too mellow as well. It looks very Pro though!

Many Thanks,

Jonathan

I like your Version 5. I'd like to see it with the donkey colored as the American flag (see my other posts on the forum regarding this) and moved over so that the back foot that touches the "a" is instead sort of dropping into the "y".

I like the ripples too but you might have to adjust them to work with the donkey in the new position. But I'll leave that design detail up to you. What ever you think looks best.

giant...I like the kick. In getting some advice from others we've determined that "DNCBay" should all be on one line. We're wondering if you could do this and also show the donkey kicking the "D" or the "Y".

Thanks again...these are looking great

DenverJonny
04-03-2008, 07:22 AM
Freetime...this looks good. Wondering if you could move or make the doney larger so it is not touching the "y". Also...we need the water/ripples in order to express the bay concept but they don't seem to work fo me there, after moving the donkey. Can we try putting the ripples under the "DNCba"? Or maybe we need a whole ripple effect all together? I can't tell. I did like the effect in Version 5 making the Y look like it was under water...but I don't know how we can do that now and make it look good???

Thanks for helping us through this process. Hope it's not too much of a pain educating a newbee. I feel that we are almost there.

To all...I'm also wondering how things might look with the kicking donkey right between the DNC and the Bay?

Tini...Thank you! I like your sea of democrats V1.1. They'll need to be blue but maybe we can do red stars and or red faces in order to balance the colors? I'd like to see the middle guy with the hat on straight and the other two w/o hats. I'd also like to see just one star in one of the people w/o fthe flag lines. I really liked the shoulder to shoulder effect of the attached picture but don't try to force it if you don't think it'll work. Also wondering if we could do red, white/grey, blue, and black figures. If so I'd put the star in the black figure.

Hello:) and thank you for your feedback...I matched the sites color(which I felt was most important...)....I can't see the shoulder to shoulder picture you attached?....

DenverJonny
04-04-2008, 09:20 AM
Tini...I like this direction...definitely a sea of Democrats. Is there a red color that we could add that would compliment the color scheme? Also wondering if we could try a black figure on the left with the "star heart" and make the blue guy all blue then make the figure on the right a reddish color I like the wavy thing in the "Bay" would be cool if we could make that reddish too ...I'm shooting for reds, whites, blues, blacks and grays.

Yeah...lets try the stars, one of the figures and the "Bay" all in red...It could be an earthy or brick red? What ever red you think works...your color choices are always good...

tini1 wins! This was a hard choice for us. I really liked what Freetime and giant came up with. If I had to judge on the final product AND effort I would have picked giant. However, I really liked Freetimes final it looked really pro. I choose tini cause we really were shoot'in for a sense of The patriotism/bay of democrats thing. Thanks everyone so much for your participation and patients throughout this process. I'll be back.

Many Thanks,

Jonathan

Tini1..can we try one more revision. Using Version 1.3B, flip the water horizontally and vertically. Then nudge the Forefather up a little like it's on top of that wave. Let's do the tag line in black (got any ideas for a tag line?) Center the star inside the black figure and make it smaller. Then "Spangle" the other stars making the top one black...the one to the left red...to the right blue then alternating red/blue or blue/red on each side.

:)Jonathan, thank you for choosing my design for your logo....here are your revisions......:)

DenverJonny
04-04-2008, 02:29 PM
Actually I meant to bump the blue figure up a tini bit (not down). Also, I do like the star over the heart after all and I think it should be he same size as the smallest heart on the "Star Spangled Banner".

Question: Do you like the big black star or do you think it would be better if it were blue?

DenverJonny
04-04-2008, 02:38 PM
Tini1-Let's do the top star in blue then alternate red/blue/red from there.

Thanks again,

Jonathan

"Be a Party to the Auction"

DenverJonny

Let's go with Denver Auction Party for the tag. Is there a place where it would make sense to put "2008" either above the "Bay" or above the Stars or below the water or ?

DenverJonny
04-05-2008, 02:14 PM
Size-wise...you can make the final art in a size that will fit where the current logos is at dncbay.com (The one upper left and the smaller one lower right)?
