Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo? Amy Lynn Smith Photography
What type of product or service do you offer? Portrait photography for babies, children, teens and families
How long have you been in business? Less than a year
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity? The logo will introduce me to the area as an upscale photographer and artist whose photographs are fresh, timeless and elegant. I am pricey but worth it.
What are your long term goals? In 5 years to open a retail studio in the area.
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer? April 30th
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience: Right now most of my contacts are moms, so I want my logo to appeal to women but not to be overly feminine so that the teenage boys I shoot would not want my logo on their photos.
Who would you like to add to your audience? High end clientele, people who buy furniture from Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, and Crate and Barrel, people who understand and appreciate art and are willing to pay for it, people with a strong sense of classic style
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like? When I go out, I wear a very clean, simple outfit with one Brighton ( (www.brighton.com)) piece of jewelry. Brighton jewelry is very feminine but it is easy to go overboard. This clean, simple combination with a touch of femininity is what aiming for. I do love the Brighton pieces with subtle hearts in them. Also, I love the use of negative space and would love to see some versions using this but it is not a must have.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?) Colors are hard for me. I love medium tones, no reds or oranges though. I have a new favorite color every few months. Right now I am leaning towards these two colors 4d8f9a and 43433d or lighter like: 62989e, 64675c, and 8aa162. These are the colors that I tend to decorate with and I could be happy with for years. You can see my current color palette at amylynnsmithphotography.blogspot.com.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo? I do not want my initials used, or at least not obviously. I prefer an artistic feel to my logo. Again I will mention Brighton jewelry (www.brighton.com). I really like the design on the following styles: #J80573, #J80193, #J34952, #J13120, #J14960, #J46310, #J45930. These are just samples of things I wear but I do not want it to overpower the design.
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business? Fresh, simple, a touch of femininity, timeless.
What is your tagline or slogan? I don't have one.
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience? My technique is classic, contemporary, clean, and timeless
Where will your new logo be used? Website (I will be using this website template: http://blusites.com/betsey/#), watermark on photos, blog and printed marketing materials, including business cards.
Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
http://www.angelacrutcherphotography.com/ This is too young for me
http://www.shaunajaredphotography.com/ I would prefer something more feminine
http://www.sarahdobbins.com/
What sets you apart from your competitors? My client's experience is very much about feeling pampered and relaxed. The sessions are personalized and I spoil my clients with thoughtful touches, almost like a spa experience. It is an experience that they want to repeat. My packaging is elegant and detailed and makes my clients feel like they are opening a gift. My photography can be on display for years without seeming dated.
Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company: Extraordinary Moments, Extraordinary Art
If you need any clarification, just ask. I have never had to fill one of these out before. Thanks!

Thank you Kekepania and Tini for working so quickly.

LOL! Thanks for the chuckle. No, if you go to my blog, amylynnsmithphotography.blogspot.com, you will see a font that shows my meaning in my header. It is all capitals but the first letters are still taller, kwim. I do love that font style.
I will try and get colors to you. I didn't realize that photoshop #s wouldn't translate over. Sorry.
Keep up the good work.

Hi Deanna, thank you for joining this project. I like the colors and the softness of the swirls. I do not like the font as much, too bold maybe? I am also not a fan of the circle above. Could you somehow surround my name in the swirls. Not overly done.
I would like to see this version one again though with a different font and versions with the colors 440, 367, and 366

Kekpania, I do love version 10. Could you show a bigger 'swirl' rectangle centered above my name and realign photography, like in version 1. Try it sideways as well with it being as wide as the owrd photography. I would also like to see that in the font you used for 9.
Also, and I would have no idea if this would look good, but could you try the font version in 10, with the boxed in rectangle, with and with out the box.
Thank you.

Hello designers! Thank for all our wonderful work so far. I would like to see some logos with flourishes/swirls above and below my company name. The use of negative space is not required and the sides need not be connected.
Also, is it okay for me to ask one designer to make their's be done in the layout of another designers? I don't want to step on toes.
Thanks.

Deanna, I really like the softness of your swirls but I feel like it is too busy. I would also like to see it without the circle. The font is closer but i like the font in kekepania's version 12 much better. The flourishes are still too much on the word photography.
Thank you!

We are not allowed to copy eachothers work, or use elements of another designers submission. We are all independent and do not collaborate on ideas.
Also, if you like a particular design, you are also welcome to make revisions once you chose a designer and get moved to the revisions forum.

Thank you for the clarification.
Kekepania, in the icon in versions 10, 12, and 11. I would like to see the swirls in the center touching.
Could I see versions 10, 11 and 12 with the blue color from 9c and a dark brown?
In version 12, could I see the icon position and sized like in version 11?
Also could you show me 9c with rounded corners?
I would also like to see a logo that has flourishes above and below the company name.
Thank you again for clarifying. I really appreciate the hard work.

Thanks Tini for your fast revision. Could you flip the swirls and then extend the green to include my business title as well. I don't know if this would look good, but curious to see. Thanks!
Also, I would like to see a non negative image with some kind of flourish above my name.
Is is polite to take snapshots of other logo attempts for other clients that I was intrigued by?
I am very happy where these logos are going, but I feel a need to make sure that I saw enough variety before I choose.

Kekepania and Tini, did I burn you guys out? I haven't heard back from you all. I am not in a hurry or anything and I am sure you need to split your time among projects.
Also, is it normal to have only 3 designers. I tried to pick a price that would entice my designers to join. Just curious? Is it money:blush:
Obviously, I have never done this before and I don't know what to expect. So thank you for forgiving my inexperience.

I was hoping I could see outlined in the color that 'Amy Lynn Smith' is in. My partner would like to see that.
Also I would like to see the font different on Amy Lynn Smith to one like the font you used in 15a.
Also I love the swirls bar in 15a and was wondering if it would be possible to have you make a bar of swirls (no border though, like in the 'a') that would be about 12 inches long (or a smaller repeatable pattern). I would love to use it in my marketing materials to tie in with the 'a'. Cost?
Now will the files I receive allow me to change the colors of the 'a' and the words? I am building my website and I am not ready to commit to those colors yet. I only have access to CS3 for my personal editing.
Lastly, I need a version where the 'A' is on the side of Amy Lynn Smith Photography (my wepage only allows my logo to be 80 pixels high).'
Thanks!

Well I definitely like the other color better.
The part that I least like about the 'a' is the bottom left of the swirl, could you add more color there?
How does the cost of fonts work? Would I be able to move the position of the fonts if necessary. Do I need to buy a special license to use the font on a brochure?
Also, I am curious as what your favorite design was?

my favorite design's were all 3 in v15.
as far as fonts, we can't supply them to you, but I can tell you the names and you can purchase them, if you don't already have them. They are relatively common fonts I believe..

Currently photography is the same color as the 'a'. Do you want me to actually change the color to be darker on both the 'a' and the 'photography'. Or I could make the font slightly bolder??
I think the 'a' is looking different with the new font, I will increase the size and spacing though :)

Do you not like the font change? You could try a sans serif font using small caps, to keep it cleaner looking. The original font you used was fine, I just prefer to not have the tails of the letter 'y' extend below the 'line'.
As for making photography easier to read, could you try both options? I would like to see the difference.

No, I actually like this font better... I was just saying it is a different size as the other font, so it might be throwing off our perception of the size of the 'a' :)

Can I tweak the size of the 'a' easily in CS3, I don't want to have to keep bugging you on this one.
Also I like the spacing between the 'a' and amy lynn smith, but I do want the photography line closer the the Amy Lynn Smith part.
Could I see some other fonts for photography that are simple like that, but easier to read. I may just go with this version, but my dh is giving me a hard time.
He would also like to see a thin black line outlining everything in the 'a' If you could do this that would be great, but don't if it is time consuming. He just keeps asking me about it, lol.

sure. When you mean outline everything in the 'a' do you mean the swirls? I already outlined the 'a' as a whole, so I'm confused on that ;)
You could edit the size of the 'a' yourself, it just depends on if you know illustrator?

Oh just never mind about the outline, he means the swirls as well. But it is my image and although it could look cool, I think it is beautiful as it is.

I don't have illustrator but I do have photoshop and I am very familiar with that.

Also, will the swirls always be white, or the color that is underneath?

photoshop would work to make changes, but once in photoshop your logo will no longer be "vector" which means it is the best quality and can be sized really large without distortion or pixelation. So you really want to keep it an illustrator vector format. Just let me know what else you would like done, and I will try and make it "perfect" so you don't have to mess with it.
As far as the background. Well right now, the swirls are white, but I can also make it to where any color shows through, which would look really neat I think. It's up to you though :)

Oh my goodness, I am loving these edits. I know this is going to sound strange but is the word photography a bit blurry in version 29?
Do you know any mac based programs that would allow me to resize in vector format inexpensively?

Photography doesn't look blurry on my end... ;)
I don't know of any inexpensive programs. If your just using the logo in photoshop at small sizes it will look fine. It's just if you wanted to make it really large, that's where you would definitely need the vector illustrator file. :) Sorry if I'm confusing you

Thanks for the clarification of the sizing. Photoshop should feet my needs for the marketing materials I am making.
I am kind of leaning towards version #29. Could you outline the letter 'a' in that thin black line as well and increase the font sizes a little bit. I am trying to find the perfect balance between the 'a' and the text. Sorry, I hope I am not being too nitpicky.

Thank you for doing that.
Now if you could add more space between the 'a' and Amy Lynn . . .
and a tiny bit more space between Amy Lynn and photography.
Then change the photography font to the one your first used but use the darker color blue (sorry for the flip flop, I am just having a hard time with that one). I think people aren't going to notice that it is two different shades.
If you could then post both the outlined 'a' and the original 'a' in that layout for both, I should then be able to make a final decision between the two. Which is your fave?
P.S. I like how the black version of 'a' looked in #29 versus #30.
Sorry, you are probably sick of looking at these, lol!

whew! I'm getting confused with all these versions!! lol
Here ya go :)
Also, I think I know why your seeing the photography slightly blurry. It's because when I upload these files they are web quality and are a lower resolution than the files you will receive.

That makes sense about the blur. Maybe I will go with the other font then if it is really crisp.
Well I am going to ask my friends and family for their opinions and I will get my decision to you. Funny thing is that after all of this work, I still am torn between the other logo and this one, so thank you.
Spacing and size looks good. I can see that the 'a' on the right is a bit bigger, and if I go with that one, I would like it to be the size of the one on the left. Thanks!

Okay I am ready. I have decided to go with the non outlined version in #31. Please make the 'a' the same size as the outlined version.
I also need an 80 pixel high horizontal version of this logo. If you could keep the text the same size, and moved the 'a' to the left, making that 80 pixels high, that should work.
You are almost finished, I promise! Oh and the swirls won't have any color right? I can make them white if I want to and when I want to with that.
Thanks!

Oh and use a slightly darker color of that blue for the word photography. I think that will work.

The swirly bar is black, and yes, you can change the color in photoshop to whatever you want :)
The horizontal version is 80 pixels high :)

Are the swirls in the a set to show whatever color is underneath?
If I needed to change my font later on, would it be easy for me? Or is it something I should ask you to do? Like give you the font name and size kind of thing.
I am still iffy on photography. I just need to see how this looks in a high quality format.
So package it up and send me the files that we have discussed.
Thanks!

Right now they are white, but I can make them either way... white or transparent to show whatever is beneath them. If you needed to change the font later on, you would have to delete the text and start from scratch, because the files we provide you have the text converted to paths, which makes them uneditable. Packaging it up takes some time... so I don't want to package it all up and then have to re-do it. How about I send you one high-res file for you to view, and then you tell me if you would like me to continue with packaging the files?
Thanks,
Stephanie

Okay that sounds good and makes total sense.
Send me the file of the 'a' with the photography using the font that I thought was blurry. I liked that it was easy to read and the only reason why I was hesitant is that it looked blurry. Do you need my email address?
I definitely want the swirls transparent, it will look cool as a watermark on my photos.
Thanks!

Okay so I went through and found a similar font on my computer called, Thonburi in pantone color 5483c. That one seems a bit bolder but similar. You can send me a high res image at amy.closetomyheart@gmail.com and I can double check but I think that will work fine.
