Hello, I am starting out in photography and want a logo for my business. A sample of my work can be viewed here (http://www.flickr.com/gp/23897219@N00/F14X70)<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?<o:p></o:p>
Ladybug Photos

What type of product or service do you offer?
Custom on-location photography – children, maternity and families<o:p></o:p>

How long have you been in business?
Just starting out<o:p></o:p>

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
Professionalism, moving beyond just a crazy mom with a fancy camera

What are your long term goals?<o:p></o:p>
To make this into a viable business

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
April 21<o:p></o:p>

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Moms, middle class<o:p></o:p>

Who would you like to add to your audience?
Moms, upper middle class, ones who want custom portrait artwork and appreciate the value of that<o:p></o:p>

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
My business name has ladybug in it, so prefer to have something that incorporates that but not too cutesy. I would like a symbol or element that can be used on its own without the text.<o:p></o:p>

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)<o:p></o:p>
Colors of a ladybug – red, black, white. Also, green and yellow can be accents.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
A ladybug but I am open to suggestions and different designs.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?<o:p></o:p>
Professionalism, high quality portraits, approachable attitude, elegance but not serious and stuffy

What is your tagline or slogan?<o:p></o:p>
None at the moment

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?<o:p></o:p>
High quality, custom photographs of your family – something that is a piece of art that you will enlarge and hang up. I don’t want to sound too serious since childhood is about having fun, so I want to show that I can capture the fun moments too.

Where will your new logo be used?<o:p></o:p>
Website, print

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
Other custom portrait photographers<o:p></o:p>

List competitive URLs if possible

What sets you apart from your competitors?

<o:p></o:p>
Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:<o:p></o:p>
Artwork<o:p></o:p>

Thanks for the quick responses :)

Offbeat Design - I like the red/black text combo. #1, I don't like the icon - sorry. #2 I actually like the icon in b&w but not in colour. Also, I would prefer a logo that is wider as opposed to a squarish-dimension.

pracus - I like the text design but can you move the icon to the side to make a wider logo?

Offbeat and pracus - maybe a more feminized icon? (feminized, is that even a word?) Let me know if you want some samples.

Tini1 -I like how you've incorporated teal. Minor change to text - ladybug PHOTOS. Is there anything you can do to the icon, like give it more of a black head, like the 2 icons Offbeat and pracus showed? Can you tilt the icon so that the tail part twirls more horizontally under the text?

Thank you for your effort, Offbeat Design, Pracus and Tini1 :)

I think I am looking for less angles in the icons (like not in a box, for example).

I should mention that I seem to gravitate towards script fonts.

Thank you all for your submissions.

Offbeat - I'm not digging the bug legs in version 3 but everything else is nice. I like version 4 more :)

Taldo - I really like the icon. It's elegant and yet not too serious. Is it possible to change the colours to a deeper red and black? The text for both words are similar enough that they run as one word in the B&W. Perhaps one bolded, or one word is a different size? What about a different font?

Titania - Like the little track marks :D No comments on anything I'll like to change to this design.

Thank you everyone for your work. I am going to have a hard time deciding :)

Tini1 and Taldo, thank you for your replies over the weekend. :)

Tini1, I am afraid the logo reminds me too much of computer mouse :(

Taldo, is possible to have a different font? Also "Photos" in black?

Taldo, I like it :) If I pick your design, is it possible to supply two versions, that one and one with ".ca" added in the end so that I can use the logo as a watermark for my photos?

Ditto the same question to other designers, if it's possible to have a version that says "Ladybug Photos.ca" so that I can use it as a watermark? I realise some of the designs have two levels of text, perhaps that's something we can discuss in the revisions but I'll like to voice it now so all of you will know my intentions.

Tini, cute concept - bug on a leaf but I am afraid I don't like how blocky the icon is now. I think I like the original concept but with the doodle tail coming horizontally.

Jennifer, Blue Cherry, thank you for your submissions.
Versions 1 and 2: I must say I've never thought of the colour combos. Very pretty but I don't like the icon :(
Version 3 is nice :)

Deanna, shnickerdoodle - very nice concepts, I like how the leaf is incorporated into the text. Possible to have a more rounded ladybug?

Thank you everyone for their submissions and reiterations.

Thank you Tini, I am liking the bug now :D

Thank you Deanna, much nicer bug. :D

I know I have the contest open for another week but is there any one else interested in presenting their designs? If not, I'll probably close it Thursday morning and decide on which designer for the revision phase.

Thank you Titania for the different bug :)

Tina, thank you for your submission. I like how you've incorporated teal into the design. However, I am not too keen on the font, perhaps a more flowing script. Maybe move the bug? Rotate 30 degrees anticlockwise, put it by or under the L in Ladybug?

To the other designers, I think we're heading in the right direction, you've incorporated the script fonts that I like. What I'm looking for is more movement in the logo. Perhaps in the revision phase, it's a matter of choosing the right font? Perhaps it's about adding a few doodles/swirls? Or anything else that inspires you?

Anyone want to give it another try before I make my decision? Perhaps this last submission will tip my decision in your favour.

Deanna,
Thanks for the bug tracks, that's something I was considering :D

Tini,
That's another different take and I like how the bug is colourful . :D

I shall made my decision in the next day or so. This is going to be hard.

Thank you all for your hard work :)

Hi,
I've decided to go with Carol Taldo's design, post #17, version 2 and post #19, version 3.

Thank you everyone for their submissions.

Carol, I am intrigued with the possibility of a teal swish (but smaller) like Tina Wood's. Can quickly sketch one and if I'll like it with your design?

Also, can you show me a few script fonts to see which one I like more? I like both that are present now but not completely loving them, KWIM?

Lastly, I like the black "Photos" in desin #3 more than the grey "Photos" in design #2. So, keep that in your revisions :) But, I am wondering how it'll look with a teal "Photos", so maybe one version to give me an idea would be nice.

I hope I am not being too demanding but I think there shouldn't be anything else that needs major revisions after my download of thoughts above.

Thank you :)

Carol,
Thank you for the different versions. I don't think I like yours with the swish, so let's discard that notion. Ditto using teal, that bit of pink and gray gives enough accents so that there isn't a need for another accent colour.

It's down to font choice and I am having a hard time deciding. I want something with a bit of a slanted flourish.

Like Chopin script.

Or some of these
http://simplythebest.net/fonts/script_fonts.html

Corinthia
Pointed Brush
Lilly Wang
Passions Conflict

Just examples of what I am looking for. If you have anything similar, do let me know.

I do like version 2, and 4d but they're not shouting "the one" to me, KWIM?

Also, can you switch "Ladybug" to black and "Photos" to red?

We're close :)

Hi Carol,
Thanks for putting them all together so I can decide :) I think I've decided on 6a and can you increase the font size by 10-20% or so? And change it to Ladybug in black, Photos in red? Also can you provide a version with LadybugPhotos.ca? Can you let me know the name of that font so I can find it myself?

Lastly, can you include the colours for the pink and gray in the bug when you send me the logos?

Thanks :)

Taldo

Let me know if this looks ok. The font is "Saginaw".
The pink and gray colors are the same as the red and black - just at a lesser %.:)
