Admin code added by Abby - 0MN66808W72633938
Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Grand Prix Performance
What type of product or service do you offer?
Aftermarket Performance Auto Parts and Accessories
How long have you been in business?
New Business
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
To establish ourselves as a premiere source of parts in this industry
What are your long term goals?
To establish a well-known brand and good reputation
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
Extended to May 13, 2008
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Because this is a new business, we have no existing audience
Who would you like to add to your audience?
Successful professionals who like to work on their cars as a hobby
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
Modern, professional
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
No, we are open to suggestions
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
We had considered having two checkered flags that are crossed with a G in one flag and a P in the other flag with the word Performance at the bottom of the logo, but this is merely an idea, not a requirement. We are open for suggestions.
Regardless of what design is chosen, we will need a couple variances on the logo. We will need:
1) A full color version
2) A two color (black/white) version
3) A version with our domain name (www.gpspeedstore.com)
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
Modern, professional, performance (speed, agility, etc)
What is your tagline or slogan?
We do not have one at this time.
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
That we are a professional company with an excellent selection of performance auto parts that they should purchase.
Where will your new logo be used?
On our website and other marketing materials
Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
Our competitors range from huge multi-million dollar companies like "Summit Racing" (www.summitracing.com) to smaller companies like "Doctor Speed" (www.doctorspeed.com). Generally, the larger companies tend to have better logos that are more along the lines of something we would find acceptable.
List competitive URLs if possible
www.summitracing.com
www.therpmstore.com
www.streetunit.com
www.slickcar.com
www.sfxperformance.com
What sets you apart from your competitors?
Ultimately, we expect to focus on parts for a limited number of vehicles, such that we can become an expert with regards to those vehicles. This will allow us to provide a higher level of service to our customers than the larger vendors who carry every part for every vehicle.
Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Performance!
Project Update: This project is now validated.

We are narrowing down the choices, but would like some more time to make a decision. As such, we are extending the deadline to May 13, 2008. We will have a decision on or before that date.

Sorry about that. I just wanted to make sure you got the message. I wasn't sure you would get it if I only posted in the thread, but I'll be sure to do that next time.

We have chosen Freetime as our designer, with the intention to use the v3 logo after some revisions. Thank you to everyone who submitted a design!
Can we begin working on Revisions now, or do we need to wait until the thread is moved?

Things are a bit busy, so I apologize for the delay. First, I would like to see a rendering of the v3 logo with smaller flags. They currently seem to be a bit "overbearing", if you will.
It *may* look good if they are merely seen coming out from behind the shield on either side, such that you can not see the flagpoles coming up over the top of the shield.

We like the second one, but try pushing the flags out a little more (horizontally) and change the blue parts in the shield to look gold in color.

v3.2

05-17-2008, 10:45 PM
Okay. Let's try a couple of things.
1) Remove the "highlight" from the top portion of the shield, so that it has a more uniform look.
2) There is a white (or background colored) border around the shield. Get rid of that border such that it appears that the flags appear to come directly out from the backside of the gold portion of the shield.
3) Make the flags a little bit larger, but in doing so, leave the "flagpoles" in place. As a result this will make the flags extend further horizontally and downward (but not upward).
4) I'm not sure I like the border around the banner being so close to the same color of the shield. However, I'm not sure what color would look good. If I visualize black, it seems that it would stand out too much. Do you have any ideas?
5) Put some sort of outline around the letters GP. A very thin black outline may look good.
Thanks for all of your hard work on this. I feel like we're getting really close.

v3.3
falcontx
05-18-2008, 08:46 PM
Alright. Let's start with the lower left logo on v3.3 and make the following changes:
1) Put the highlighting back in place (i.e. the shield from v3.2)
2) Put the thin border around the letters GP like the logos on the right, but leave the banner border gold.
Thanks!

We have chosen the logo on the 2nd row of the left column to be our primary logo. With that in mind, we need a couple of variants on the logo for various purposes:
1) A version of the logo which somehow incorporates our domain name (www.gpspeedstore.com)
2) A version of the logo which somehow incorporates our full company name (Grand Prix Performance, LLC)
3) A two color version (black/white) for vinyl decals, etc.
4) A simplified color version (3-4 basic colors, no shading)

Dear Client,
These additional requests that you are asking for are not included the standard Logo file package that we require our Designers to provide the Clients. When a Client needs additional files with different variations they must ask their Designer how much they would charge to take care of there additional requests. Once you agree on a price you will need to make your additional deposit thru Design Outpost and I will verify with the Designer that you have made your deposit and they can get start on your additional requests. If you have any further questions please let me know. Thank you

I do not recall reading at an point what was to be included in the "standard Logo file package" that you speak of. It was made clear in the original post that a couple variants of the logo would be required.

v3.6
falcontx
05-22-2008, 04:48 PM
All of the ones on the left column are perfect. The simple (3-color, no shading) logos are also good, but the color used for gold is a bit dark, and the black surrounding the banner is too thick. A thinner black border or a thin white border may look better.
I'd also like to see the 2-color (black/white) version.
Once those are done, we'll consider this complete and commence with the file/money exchange.

Three more changes:
1) Make the legs of the N in "Grand" thicker (like the legs of the letter R and A)
2) On the 3-color and black/white versions, put a thin white border around the outside of the shield. (This isn't necessary on the main logo due to all of the highlighting and shading, but with these limited palettes, it will help the shield stand out)
3) On the black/white versions, invert the inner portion of the shield (See the black/white logo on the original v3 for example)

The designs have been approved pending one minor change.
1) On the first and second logo in the right column, the white "GP" bleeds into the white border around the banner below. Move the "GP" up a pixel or two such that some red separates the two (similar to the third logo in the right column).

I received the files, but I must request one more minor change prior to signing off. On the 2-color (black/white) versions of the logos. The text in the shield (GP for example) is not vertically centered. Because there is a white border around the banner, the letters look like they are positioned too far up on the shield. This was not clearly apparent on the small samples, but is very clear on the larger versions. If that change could be made, I would appreciate it. Everything else looks good.

New B&W files sent

Thank you.
Unfortunately, in trying to get the final approval, a couple of other problems with the b&w logo were found.
The thickness of the black portion of the "performance" banner varies. The reason is because the box surrounding the word performance is typically a different color, but in the b&w logo, it's the same, which makes the border appear thicker in the middle than on the ends. Also, on either side of the banner, it appears blocky in one spot where it should be angled. Finally, the website appears further apart on the b&w design due to the white border around the shield. I've attached a picture to illustrate what I mean, so it's clear.

The corner should not be angled like the bottom. Compare to the color version.
I made the black stroke slightly bigger on the top and bottom to help give a little more depth from the tails of the banner. Since it is black and white it needed the help, where the color version was fine.
Moving the address up is not a problem. I just compared the color and bw version and they are exactly the same distance.
These were approved originally.

As I mentioned before, the original approvals were based upon the tiny sample images. Once we got the full size versions, these flaws became readily apparent.
I got the latest files, and all are now approved. Thank you for your assistance in creating the perfect logo for us!
