Project Summary:

• What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
funeralology

• What type of product or service do you offer?
Continuing education and training courses for funeral directors

• How long have you been in business?
1998 as a funeral consultant
1987 as a funeral director

• What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
this is a new business unit for my consulting agency

• What are your long term goals?
to be the provider of customized and personal training and education for the funeral industry

• When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
1 week (April 27, 2008)

Audience Profile:

• Please describe your existing audience
funeral home owners and managers as well as funeral directors

• Who would you like to add to your audience?
more funeral directors;) + students of mortuary science colleges

• Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
a logo that exudes stability, trust, knowledge. The stability of an old, established university – combined with modern, hip, cutting edge.

• What type of logo would you like?
text-based logo, with an example of the word itself, and one with “.com”
Prefer landscape, but not too long as eventually I would like to have it on T-shirts, golf shirts, hats, and coffee mugs

• What I don't want
I would prefer not to have too much (or any) graphics other than the text

•Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
The theme that I will use for this site is at www.FuneralFuturist.com (http://www.funeralfuturist.com/) (don’t mock the logo, that project will be posted up here soon), so something that would go with the brushed metal / chrome look. Red can also be used, but not more than 50% of the design is to be red – the color is: #CC0000
“Web 2.0” look is ok, but not manditory

Communication Strategy:

• What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
The name says it all – this is THE place for the study of funeral service.

• What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
Funeralology – the go-to place for your continuing education requirements

• Where will your new logo be used?
website, promotion materials mentioned above

Competitive Positioning

• Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
funeralreview.com - boring
arcmesa.org – not really a logo, isn’t funeral specific

• What sets you apart from your competitors?
delivery of high quality courses, showcasing the latest strategies

• State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
leading the funeral industry into the future
I would like the logo in vector format as well. Thanks for reading my project!

Freetime, thank you for the samples. Out of all of the examples to date, I like your large "B" one first, and then your large "A" second. I would like to see the following adjustments:
- create a little bit of shape to it / a little more 3D. please provide a sample with a drop shadow and another with reflection.
- add some Red (CC0000) to the logo - maybe as stroke or fill, etc.
- apply a slightly different shading, etc., to "ology" so that the two words stand out from each other without physically separating them.
Thank you and I look forward to your revisions.

NHR, thanks you for your samples but they are a little too dark. please see my comments to Freetime for more information.

Skyvee, thanks you for your samples but they are a little too long - the spacing between letters should be narrower, also the font used is too simple. please see my comments to Freetime for more information.

Ya, still a little dark, Freetime's second effort is closer - by separating the words with color, but read my comments on his post for more info.

Freetime, still leaning to the font used in "B" but not in italics. Also, can the funeral part be less dark - more of a silver / white / chrome vs. dark grey / charcoal. Could you also provide a sample with a capital "F" - thanks.

Skyvee, I like it - I would like to see you apply some of the suggestions that I have made to Freetime's samples. ie. separate funeral & ology with color. Funeral less dark, etc.

Giant, not really what I am looking for - please see the comments made to Freetime's submissions.

Freetime, how do I award you as the winning designer? The one that I want to go with is you version 2.0 B - but not in Italics. Thanks.
