View Full Version : [Project Complete] May 11 : $100 : CD Label
Admin code added by Abby - 8F777056RL248322L
Hello there,
I need a CD label design for software CDs. The design will be used for multiple products. It has to incorporate three basic elements:
1) A label for the name of the software, the product logo, version and licensing information.
2) A "coupon code" (just a discount code but it may look a bit like a real discount coupon). Might stand out a bit to catch the viewer's attention.
3) Company logo with three lines of general and/or copyright information below the logo.
The printable surface on my CDs is probably slightly bigger than it is on most CDs. The inner part of the CD has a diameter of only 22 millimeters and the diameter of the full print will be 118 millimeters. I did a very basic sketch with all three elements and the measurements: http://.../cddesign.png
For example, the hole in this design (http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=47413&stc=1&d=1128772802) would probably fit while this one (http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=47467&stc=1&d=1128907207) would be too large.
As I mentioned above, the CD will be used for multiple products. The contents of the CD will change regularly and so will the label. Therefore, I need the final design with all the textual parts and both logos removed so I can add the appropriate elements when needed. What I'm asking for is actually rather a "CD label template" that a final CD label but I guess it doesn't make much difference.
The main colors should be navy blue and a bit of gray like in the logo on the right. I would prefer a clean, simple yet professional looking design like this (http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=43635&stc=1&d=1123471673) or this (http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=47609&stc=1&d=1129139161) over something too detailed. I do not want pictures of humans or animals to be a part of the design.
Thank you,

Hi,
If you want your logo included, please attach it in vector format. Also, what type of software products will these be so we can get an idea of what type of images to use.
Hello,
you can download the logo related files here:
http://.../logo.zip (couldn't add it as an attachment because its filesize is slightly bigger than 1 MB). Anyway, this should not be part of the final design because I have to be able to apply different logos at a later point. Of course, you may use the logo I provided as a placeholder.
The software is internet-related, mostly targeted at webmasters and web designers.

Thank you for your entries!
OffbeatDesign,
I like the look of the coupons, particularly the one with the red border in #5. What I don't like about both entries is the coloring. While the second one gets closer to what I'm looking for (colorwise) it looks a bit too pale for my taste. I'm not necessarily asking for more colors but rather more contrast and possibly more intense colors.
I'm not a big fan of these soft, flowing background images, but one thing I really like about #8 is how the background image manages to almost hide the empty fourth quarter of the label.
Titania,
What I don't like about your entry is the "20 % off" line, even though I can't really describe why -- I think it looks somehow dated.
I like the overall look of the design, but the right part looks a bit empty. It would be good to fill all that white space with... something. Maybe the logo could be moved from the left to the right and the "20% off" could be on the left, overlapping the color border (see below). Just an idea...
One minor thing: The "Visit ... for details" line needs to be closer to the coupon code (directly below if possible) because that's where the prospect will be entering the code. It can't be entered during the normal order process and the connection between the code and the address has to be as obvious as possible. The "valid until ..." line is not that important and may remain near the edge.
Another idea: The white squares at the right could be used as a way to add a little space for the product logo near the title:

:)
OffbeatDesign,
I like #11 better than #5, #8 and #10. The one thing I'm not too fond of is the yellow in the title, although I understand black would not look good on the blue background and white would not stand out enough since all other elements use white too. Maybe you could find some way to make the title stand out without using a completely different color? Please have a look at my attachment for two very basic ideas.
martellostudio,
I take it that the curve is intented to mimic the curve from the logo -- a clever idea.
I don't like the 0s and 1s in the background, they are too generic, but I would imagine the whole label would look good even without any background image at all. Could you please do a version without the background image in the upper half, using the dark blue of the background image instead?
Titania
I think this is a major improvement, the coupon label looks so much better. I can't really think of anything else to ask for at this point, so I will take this version into consideration and show it to a few people I'm working with. Of course, if you have any other ideas, feel free to add them.

Hi,
Yes.. that was the idea behind the curve. I have taken out the background pic and just used a blue subtle gradient...
Thanks,
Vic

Thank you all for your participation. After careful consideration I have decided to go with martellostudio's design.
Vic, there is only one minor change I would like to ask for. Could you please remove the hole by replacing it with the appropriate shade of blue so that it fits in with the surrounding blue background?
One more thing: I assume the purpose of the pink circles is to make it clearer where the white part of the label ends and where the white background starts, but if they are actually part of the label design, please remove them.

Hi,
Thanks for choosing my design.
Yes.. the magenta dieline was simply there to represent the outside and inside edges of the CD.
I have made the changes and the files are ready for you to download. Please check your private messages for the link.
Let me know if you need anything else.
Thanks,
Vic

Thanks, but I need the label with the logo and all the text elements removed (like in the attached file).
Also, could you please provide a BMP, PNG or JPEG version?
I understand these AI/EPS files are technically superior but I'm just too incompetent to use them properly
