http://www.halfilms.com/
The design is cool, nice simplicity, but slightly messy composition. The overall look of seriuousness is appealing.
http://www.apple.com
We really like the navigation - the menu on top is easy to notice and easy to read without being flashy at all.
http://www.youtube.com/
We like the colors in the navigation menu on top. Fargene på topmenyen faller veldig i smak. The four video thumbnail under "promoted videos" have perfect size and alignement.

Attn. moderators:
Does my project description meet the requirements, and does it seem like I have described it in a way you designers appreciate?
Jon
Hi
I think the description looks fine, I am just missing to see some example of high quality sites that you like the look of. :)

Thanks, that helps a lot :)

The attached document describes four pages of the website. Is our 700$ reward somewhat small compared to what work needs to be done?
Squad

Hi Jon.
Here is my proposal for the documentary's page and the who is page.
For the page where you actually view the video do you intend to use the YouTube Player or a custom one? And if so would you also like us to design it?
Concerning the logo...I saw that in the attached document, at the who is page there was a picture of a cat, so I presumed Pelsman was his name:)
Please let me know what you thing about the design so far.
All the best,
Squad

The colors are not exactly what we had in mind, we are looking for a more masculine look. Also, we would like to see the design without the frame surrounding the content area.
We will not use youtube's player. It would be great if you can make a design to it :)
As for the logo, you do not need to worry about this, as we have a local designer working on this.

JEFF:
We like the overall look a lot. Looks professional and clean. It is very in line with Pelsman Productions visions.
Changes we would like to try:
1. Make the menu/navigation bar on top the same way as the "copyright bar" in the bottom - with only one color.
2. Try to find a different font for menu and text, as the current one is a bit tiring to read. Something more easy on the eye would be great.
Looking forward to seeing your next version.
Jon

ANNE:
The menu is a bit too similar to Apple's and we encourage you to try to make it more different.
We only want four thumbnails in each horizontal alignment.
Frames around thumbnails can be a good idea, but the current look is a bit too playful.
Looking forward to revised design - keep up the good work.

ALL DESIGNERS:
Frames can work, but they need to be really toned down, or not used at all.
The blue colors we have seen so far are not masculine enough.
Feel free to throw ideas at as if you should come up with new concepts!
Best regards

Dear Jeff:
Thank you for the updated deisgn - I will get complete feedback within 12 hours from this reply.
Dear Squad:
Thank you for another even cooler design. This one is something new compared to all previous contributions, and I think you may have set the bar for the further development of this comptetion. The way you have used more grey and black has given a touch of msculinity which was lacking before.. I will have complete feedback on the design in 12 hours rom this reply.
ALL DEIGNERS:
The prebious designs from Jeff and Squad are the strongest at the moment. Challenge them? Try for something in the middle of the two designs, or also try for something completely new - You never know, YOUR visions can be better than ours :) Surprise us!

Jeff
We like the shadows and the new twist to the menu. Is it possible to make the text/font in the menu even more readable. Maybe bolder font?
We would also like to see another way to make the word DOCUMENTARY more visible.
The goal is to get the videos and thumbnails even more in focus.
Can you try a different twist on the thumbnails. (preferably without shadows)
Also please try a new alternative to the "back" button.
Squad
You hit bullseye with the masculin approach. Focus is on the right place - the thumbnails and videos.
Can you try to make highlight the chosen menu button even more so it is easier to see what part of the site one is currently browsing?
Please also try a different way to arenge the "who is pelsman post@pelsman.com phonenumber"
Thank you - looking forward to revised designe.

Good progress! We like the fading you have added to the background.
Can you try this: Remove the text "documentary" from the content area, and rather let the menu tell the user which page is being browsed. Can you find a way to highlight the chosen menu button even more?
Thank you - looking forward to the next design.

Thank you for bringing some thing new into the game. We are not thrilled about the red color. We feel like this color, as well as the film-strip frame surrounding thumbnails, takes the focus away from the actual thumbnails. We want the thumbnails and videoplayers to be the unchallenged center of attention of the viewer.
We are impressed by the composition and overall design, as the webpage is easy to scan and understand. The problem is that it does not represent the personality of Pelsman. The design looks a bit too commercial. Maybe go for a slightly more masculine look?
Thank's again for the design - looking forward to the next :)

Dear Zoe,
Minor changes - but major difference! Good work.
1 Can you find a way to highlight the chosen menu option even more?
2 Try to make the phonenumber a bit smaller
3 Go easier on the frames/boxes for "who is pelsman" and "email pelsman"
4 How will the video player look?
5 Try only four thumbnails on each horizontal alignment
Thank you
Jon

Dear Jeff:
So far you design is the strongest and you are in a good lead. We would like to see you try to make some minor adjustments towards the finish line:
1. Try to go easier on the light/dark fading in the background. Make it with a little less contrast.
2. See if you can tone down the colors in the background just a tad. Make it a little more greyish
3. Remove the small arrow below the elected menu option.
4. This is the last challenge: In order to give the design a touch of personality, we would like to have a small black icon/symbol in the top right corner of each menu option. When menu option is selected the icon/symbol should turn white against the dark background. For "Two Flies" we were thinking about having two small black flies. For "Music Video" maybe we should use a music note? Try to find similar things representing each menu option in a funny way.
Good luck! Keep up the good work!

All designers:
Jeff is currently the one with the design we like the most. Anyone up for giving him a run for his money? Next tuesday is the deadline for the competition, but there is a chance we may finish it this weekend as we are on a deadline for completing the website.
With thanks to Squad, Zoe and Anne for your work so far - give us some last ideas if you have any!
Best regards
Jon
Hello Jon,
The last time I made some changes to the colours it was quite a change so thought I would make some minor adjustments to the design, tone down the colours a little for one last look. :) If you would like to see the changes throughout the pages just let me know.
or a change in heading placement.
I am working on a revision.

I will have feedback for you all by tomorrow. There is a lot to think about for the guys at Pelsman, but I am having regular consultations with them every day to make sure they get what they want. Sorry to keep you all waiting.

Zoe: Can you try to do a small adjustments to colors? I think it would be interesting to see a little less strengt in color and a little more grey tones
anne: A little brighter, it is just a tad oo dark in there. And plese try to show the thumbnails without the frame. It looks cool like it is now, but it kind of reminds us of small iPods. Just the thumbnails would be perfect.
Jeff and Squad: We have no further comments.
Status is that we are waiting for mightymau's concept. As soon as we have this as well as the last changes from Anne and Zoe we will be able to announce the winner.
The competition is incredibly tight and there is no telling which one the Pelsman team will go with in the end.
Again, thanks to you all for making this a very interesting process!

Dear all designers:
As I've said several times before, this has been a very interesting process, and the Pelsman crew are really impressed by all the good ideas you've all come up with. The Pelsman CEO told me to give you all his biggest thanks for contributing!
Ironic as it is, the winner of this contest is the last designer to post a concept. Congratulations MightyMau, your design kind of blew the competition away right at the finish line. Your design was chosen because it struck a nerve in the Pelsman crew somehow, and made them unanimously declare it as the winner at first sight. Congratulations! See you in the revisions forum :)
Zoe, Anne, Jeff, Squad:
I understand if this feels kind of bitter as you have all been in the process for a long time. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about the result.
On behalf of myself and the Pelsman crew I would like to express a great gratitude for all the efforts you have put into this. You've all done a great job and I hope to see you in future competitions!
Sincerely
Jon Aabakken
Not bitter at all :), You've got a great design and sometimes simple is better :D
Congrats mightymau
Anne
Congratulations MightyMau. Great Design. :)
Jon, I have moved this thread to the revisions forum where you can continue to work with MightyMau on any changes that may be required. Once you receive the files if you could drop by and post a quick note here for admin purposes that would be great.
We hope you have enjoyed your Design Outpost experience and that we see you again in the future. :)
