I am a children's portrait photographer. My portrait style can be described as whimiscal to traditional. I focus on expression. I prefer clean and crisp portraits which is what I am looking for in a logo. I like light colors with feminine or classy feel.
I look so forward to see what all you great designers can come up with. I am not really picky but I know that this design will well used and appreciated so I want something that I love. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask and I will try to respond as soon as I can.
Thanks sooo much!:D
Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Giggles n Grins Photography
What type of product or service do you offer?
Children's Portraits
How long have you been in business?
3 years
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
I am looking for a fresh and fun new logo and stamp to use on my website, packaging material, and any publications/advertisements that I create. My current logo is boring to me and I need one that I can use for years to come.
What are your long term goals?
A logo that my community will immediately recognize and be drawn to.
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer? June 15, 2008
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience: Mothers of young children.
Who would you like to add to your audience? I do not wish to add a different audience but instead to attract more mothers.
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like? I prefer a fun but feminine design. I like the more light look with swirly design elements but I am open to any ideas that you might have.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
Since most of my business is babies - I prefer pastel or neutral colors. I also like the pink/brown or turquiose/brown theme that is popular.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
no but again I am open to ideas.
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business? I would like my logo to reflect a professional photography business.
My current webiste background is black and I want to go to a white background with my logo colors as my font colors.
What is your tagline or slogan? I do not have one.
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience? I am just trying to be consistent and professional. I feel my current logo is boring. I want my logo to be pretty and whimiscal which is my style of photography.
Where will your new logo be used? on my website http://www.gigglesngrinsphotography.com, on future packaging, on local advertising material, and I would like to use the logo as a stamp for proofing my photographs.
Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos? My local competitions has a hand made logo that I do not care for.
List competitive URLs if possible http://www.photosbymelissaw.com
What sets you apart from your competitors?
I specialize in children with my focus on expression. I also have a little more patience to get that perfect shot than my competition has.
Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company: Whimiscal, expressive photography

Kekepania - thanks for posting! My business name is Giggles n Grins so the Giggles should be on top. I like the design elements that you used and the font on Giggles but I am not sure about the font of Grins yet. This is my first reaction so I am going to ponder it overnight in more detail and get back to you with more thoughts.

I know I prefer the pink, greeen, and brown color combination so far. And now I wish my name was Grins n Giggles as I like the way the giggles looks in that font. Could you try to do the top line as Giggles in the large font and the bottom line leave the n in the plainer font and do Grins in the curvy font. Maybe do the Giggles, Grins in Brown with the n in green and leave the swirls in pink.
Sorry if I am being difficult but I do like where you are going with this:)
Oh I do like the smaller photography line as in version #3.

Thanks Stephanie - I do like that version the best thus far. I am still curious to see what else is out there. From the ones I posted above, I really like the shay chic design so if you or someone else can make something similar to that one with the colors you used I would appreciate it.

Well - you are on the right track!
I think I'd version #6 without the large circle
and could I see version #7 in some pastel colors?
I am liking version #7 because I could use just the circles with a GnG in the largest one for a proof stamp on my photographs that I post online.
Thanks for your continous work!

Ok - can we try the circle logo with a lighter pink and then put "photography" under Giggles and "by Emily Koch" under Grins.
I am thinking maybe I should incorporate my name into the logo also...
Thanks!

FYI - My favorites are version #5, #7 and #8 so far. I also like the swirly thing you used on a version for Story by Photo.

Welcome Deanna and thanks for your submission. It is a little busy for me and the colors are not right. I am interested in seeing something in a light yellow, sage green and chocolate brown if you'd like to take another shot at it.

kekepania - thanks for the update. I like it and still like version #5 as well. I am thinking we should add another flower over the i in grins to balance it. What do you think? Or take the flowers out totally and do some dots or swirls between the top green dot and the word grins? Something just seems a little off and I can't put my finger on it.

05-30-2008, 05:46 AM
Thanks - I like it. I don't know if you noticed but I changed the due date up to the 5th so hopefully I'll be making my final decision soon.
Question - If I go with your design? Is it possible for me to play around with different color variations in photoshop? Do you send the logo in a psd?
Could I see just the circles with a "gng' in it? I would like to have a stamp based on my logo that I could put in the corner of my photos?

It will be somewhat editable in photoshop, but it is created in illustrator, which makes it vector (so you can scale it up or down without distortion and optimal image quality) If you take it into photoshop and save it out in photoshop, it will no longer be vector. I did a test to see if I could change colors once exported as a photoshop file. It comes in with elements connected, such as the three circles... so you'd have to be pretty skilled in photoshop to change colors around. Hope this answers your question.

Ok - I think I understand. Could I see your latest submisssion (version 11) with some of these colors? I am just curious to see what it looks like with softer colors. Thanks.

Hi Deanna - the colors of version 2 remind me of the Green Bay Packers. Since Stephanie is doing whimsical, do you have any vintage looking ideas as I like that style very much too.

Hi Tina - Thanks for entering an idea. I like the outer design and the colors of both versions but I am not crazy about the font. I like something a little more script.
To all designers - thanks so much for your great entries. I am so indecisive that I like all of them and never thought I'd get so many great designs.

Kekepania - Could I see version #5 with "by Emily Koch" incorporated into it somehow?
Tina - I like version #2a but wondering what it would look like with the G's capitalized in Giggles n Grins.
Fran - I like the idea of having a little icon like you provided. Not sure if I am liking the one you used though. Could you take off the dotted lines and just leave the solid design?
All Designers - I thought of a concept that I would like to see - Giggles n Grins on the first line and photography underneathe but using a design around the n - like a symbol or flower. So more of a simplistic approach.

Hi Deanna - Thanks for your resent submission. I like it alot and would just like to see a small change of making the stem of n/flower a little longer or sweeping to the left more. Just so it is more evident that it is a n. But I really do like the concept and it is a definite contender in my top three:)

All designers - I just found some packaging materials that I love and want to purchase. For anyone still interested in submitting one more design, I have attached the pattern and would like something similar with the crazy flowers or that blends nicely with the colors and design.
I promise that this is my last request and I will make my decision shortly. I hope I am not being too difficult. I appreciate all of your work and talents.

Here are the requests you asked for... I have no problem making the changes or the gng...

I Love this too! You guys are causing me sleepness nights over this:yawn:
Could I see some different fonts with this? Maybe something crisp and clean since I get the flowerly part above.
I'll look around for some fonts and get back to you if I find one that I liked to see.
Thanks!

Last request I promise:
Tina Wood - Could I see logo 2 in a different/brighter color scheme?
Stephanie - I am have had so many positive responses on version #13 - people love it. I am still not sure of the font. I do like the font you used for photography in your very first post version #1.

Thanks to all the designers that have participated in my logo request. I appreciate all your submissions and help. I will refer my fellow photography friends to Design Outpost in the future.
After relooking through all the posts, I have decided to work on revisions with Kekepania. (I heard from Amy Lynn that you were super easy to work with and very understanding.)
Thanks again

I have one more design request if you don't mind. I do like the box above my name is version 13 & 14 but could you incorporate something similar to the following versus the flowers.

Sure, do you still want the four colored blocks behind the image? or just the paisley on it's own? or in one solid block? I will check back in later today and get revisions to you this evening :)

I really like the four color blocks or in one solid block would be nice too. You can submit whichever you think looks better. Thanks - I am anxious to see it.
I've been checking out other posts and your work is just awesome.

Or after looking at the sample design - I think three blocks might look good since there are three primary colors - lime green, orange and pink.

Thanks for trying that design for me. I like it but it doesn't wow me.
After all this, I am pretty sure it is going to be version #14 with a few minor changes.
Could I see the logo with just the word Photography in a larger font? I like having Emily Koch but I think it might be a better, more concise logo without my name.
Could I see the bottom flower moved to the left just a tad?
And lastly could I see the box vertical as well?
Thanks!

Ok Keke - I think we are almost there.
I like the top one on version #16 and will go with that as is.
Could you do a horizontal one for me with my name included to use on business cards or where need be. I have attached an example that Amy Lynn Smith (a previous client of yours) created for me but use the plain font.
Also another photographer created a stamp with your idea that I attached. Would you be willing to do somthing like that for me as well. I will pay you additional money if need be.
I want my new and awesome logo to be all over with lots of exposure hence the need for a few different variations.
FYI - I am member of ILP website which is for professional photographers. I posted my examples for feedback and your work is becoming quite a hit at that site. Amy, Shawn (gypsie isle) and myself have really been promoting DO so I hope you'll get more photographers looking for logos.
