Hello all you pixel wizards!:wizard:
I need a logo for a web based internet marketing software product called Smart Money Websites.
This software contains everything a person needs to get an income generating website up and running in 30 minutes including web hosting, WYSIWYG web page editor, autoresponder and broadcast email software, slit testing software, squeeze page generator, headline generator, daily backups, and much more.
With all of these features, it's tempting to create a logo with alot of detail, but like all good logos it must be legible anywhere it appears:
on a huge billboard
on a 72 dpi website
printed the size of a postage stamp and in 1 color on a shipping label
embroidered on a polo shirt. If possible I'd like the logo to have an optional little symbol associated with it, meaning that in situtaions like the shipping label above that we could ditch the symbol and the logo could still exist on it's own. For examples, see these web-based software product logos:
picassa
you send it
feedburner
basecamp or campfire
openID
blogger
For the type face I'd like something bold and techy like:
facebook
bloggerand less whimsical like:
yahoo
skype
I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Hello and welcome to Design Outpost. Please copy and paste the questions and answers from the following link to help the designers get started on the right track... http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7819
Thank you :)
Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Smart Money Websites
What type of product or service do you offer?
All the software that new internet marketers need to get an income generating website up in 30 minutes. Most internet marketer newbies can't afford a webmaster so they spend 12-18 months learning all the technology required to create their own website.
We make this process super easy with everything (hosting, templates with WYSIWYG editor, autoresponder and broadcast emails, ad tracking capabilities, split testing, headline generator, and much more) in one easy to use control panel.
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
More professional look. Our current logo was made by our software programmer... need I say more?
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
Not sure...what is a reasonable amount of time for things of this nature on Design Outpost
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Internet marketers ages 18-60 who have not made their first $50k online yet.
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
Bold, Techy.
I like these:
facebook
blogger
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
none.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
I don't have a specific icons in mind but I would like an icon similar to these logos:
picassa
you send it
feedburner
basecamp or campfire
openID
blogger
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
bold, techy, friendly but not whimsical like these:
yahoo
skype
What is your tagline or slogan?
none yet
Where will your new logo be used?
Mostly in the upper left corner of website but there may be print or other applications.
Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
http://business.blinkweb.com/
Too many things to look at... neck tie and eye on paper is too much to figure out visually.
What sets you apart from your competitors?
We have many more built in features like split testing and autoresponders.

The logo questionnaire asked if I had a tagline for this product yet. At the time I didn't have one but after much thought this is what I've come up with: "Internet Business in a Box"

Tyler, thanks for submitting your design.
Tell me what the green "thing" represents to you. Is it the box from the "internet business in a box"?

Tina,
I def like v2 the best for both concept, font, and colors. I'd like to see more explorations of this idea.

After seeing Tina's logo Tyler's seems too cold (ie not friendly enough).

I didn't get any reply notification emails from Design Outpost for over a week so I decided to log in and see if there are any new designs.
All I have to say is WOW!
Thanks to all the designers for the great designs.
The way DO uses a forum for the logo design process is really clunky and so I hope everyone gets notified of this post.
My favs so far are Tina's post #8 and Kekepania's post #16
Tina: Your #8 post is still my fav because it is so simple. The new monitors with legs are just too complicated. I'd like you to simplify #8 even more by combining the monitor shape and the word bubble shape into one shape. The $ will be inside of the wordbubble/monitor.
Kekepania: I would like you to round the shape of the squares so that they look like monitors. The monitors in the shape of a dollar sign could represent a group of websites making you money or a group of website visitors giving you money.
I look forward to seeing the new designs and I will log in soon just in case I don't get email notifications again.

Tina: Sorry that I wasn't more clear as this forum format is a very poor way to communicate visual ideas. I would like you to COMBINE the monitor shape with the word bubble shape so that they are one shape. Inside of that shape will be the dollar sign. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the feedback, I know it's frustrating to try and describe visual elements. I hope this is closer to what you mean.

I like the shape and size of the screen from #8 to be used in the concept displayed in #28

Tina,
I am sorry to take so long to get back to you. We just needed some time to stew on the new logo and make sure it's great before we keep it forever. So here is my feedback:
Check out the logos on this page. http://www.fontshop.com/fontfeed/archives/the-logos-of-web-20/
Notice how the symbol/icon is on the left of the words and also notice the size of the icon in relation to the words.
If you put our icon (from post #31) to the left of the text and also make it smaller you will notice two things...
1. our logo is alot longer/wider then most logos because the product name is so long.
2. when the screen is made small enough to fit next to the words it isn't as bold as the icons shown in the link above. Ours looks "thin" and not as strong.
So what is the solution? I'd like to see some versions of the logo where the icon is a bit beefier and smaller to the left of words. I'd like to see all the versions you show me with the words on two lines so that the whole logo isn't so wide. Try positioning things in several places and let me decides which ones look best.
I am not sure if this is any more or less work than usual for a logo but I since I know we are picky I am willing to pay $300 instead of $100 or $200 like most pay.

Tina,
We like the logo in post #34 the best. Here are some small tweaks:
Can you make the icon a little less wide? Not totally square but a just a little less wide.
Can you make the word WEBSITES larger? (If I make the logo half the size of the smallest one you show, the word WEBSITES becomes imperceptible.)
I'd like to see a version where the icon is slightly raised so that the logo is not totally square on the left side. (kind of like how the logo in post 35 is going above the text on the left).
I don't know why DO doesn't tell me when you reply. I will start loggin in every day to see if you've posted more revisions.
Thanks!

Tina,
Please accept my sincere apologies for taking so long to get back to you.
This client of mine is so unresponsive so I have "fired" them.
Please send me the AI file for logo version 6b and I let me know how to pay you.
