Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Karen Dominguez-Cavin Photography or Shortened would be KDC Photography

What type of product or service do you offer?
I am a photographer; I do weddings, portraits, lifestyle and commercial commercial

How long have you been in business?
I opened my business up 5 years ago. I have been actually doing photography for more then 20 years

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
I would like this new logo for this part of my business to help people identify me (Karen Domignuez-Cavin) and not just KDC Photography I think that is why I would like to use my whole name or at least part of it in the new logo. To help the clients relationships feel more personal with me.

What are your long term goals?
To completely re-brand the wedding, portrait and lifestyle side of my business with the new logo. I want to have new letterhead, business cards, envelopes, and presentation boxes embossed and even Shirts with the new logo.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
July 2, 2008

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Couples getting engaged or married, families, usually Mom’s wanting photos of their families, actors needing headshots, New Mom’s wanting to photographs the first year of their child’s life (lifestyle)

Who would you like to add to your audience?
I would like to add more “Lifestyle” clients to my audience, people that want to be photographed as a family or solo several times throughout the year to document the changes in them over the course of a year or so.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
I am really drawn to Celtic symbols, I have found one I like it is the symbol for “Everlasting Love” but for me it is a bit to thick of a line, I prefer something a bit more whimsical or feminine.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
I love purple, but I am told that that is a hard color to work with, I also like green (what I call a spa-zen green also know as sage green), browns and yellows. I would like colors that are tranquil and calming. Colors that will transfer well to letterhead, envelops, business cards, T-shirts, embossing of presentation boxes and so forth.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
I really like something whimsical and somewhat feminine, I do like Celtic symbols, one I have been looking at is the symbol for everlasting love, But I feel that the lines are a bit to thick and masculine looking I would like something more whimsical and feminine. I hope I am explaining this right.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
Fun, Friendly, Totally enjoyable, relaxed, but still very professional, how I am able to capture the true essences of people and those very candid personal moments that are sometimes missed

What is your tagline or slogan?
I don’t really have one for this side of my business. But as far as my Landscape and Nature side I use “ I see it with my eyes… I feel it with my heart…then I photograph it with my Nikon” But I don’t think this really works for this side of what I do. Currently I would say I am open to suggestions.

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
Professional Quality, Fun and Friendly, Relaxed, Candid moments, that we pride ourselves in helping the clients relax and make it possible to create an image that is not stiff and overly posed looking. One that will show generations of family the real essence who they are.

Where will your new logo be used?
Letterhead, envelops, embossing presentation boxes, T-Shirts, business cards, business forms, watermarking images on the web, stickers

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?

List competitive URLs if possible
These are websites of other photographers that I have seen and admire not necessarily my competition.

http://www.arlenemutter.com/
http://www.jessicaclaire.net/
http://www.jessicarstrickland.com/home.html
http://www.openFieldphotography.com/

What sets you apart from your competitors?

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Fun, Friendly & Creative

Kalepania, V1 & V2 Look great thank you for your submission. The symbol you used is the one I asked for, but I don't think I am married to it as I thought I once was. The green you are using is really nice I like it, but the steel blue is not really talking to me. Thank you again for wonderful creativity. I am looking for something more purplish. Look forward to seeing more of your ideas, I am open to different symbols also.

Tina, I love the colors! The symbol is also really beautiful. I like the way you used the colors in my name. Sorry it is such a long one. I would like to see a font that is a bit more, (as I told my friend last night. . .) "more girly" or with a slit flair to it, not to crazy since I do have such a long name but a little would be nice. Also can you make the word Photography centered under the name and logo so it is all aligned. Thank you so much for your wonderful input. I look forward to more ideas.

thank you for your submission Deanna. I'm not really feeling that look, it feels to Princess like. I also said in a previous post that I am not totally married to the Celtic symbol like I once thought I was. I am willing to see what you all come up with with no real boundaries.
Thank you again,

Hi Dewa Jaya,
Thank you for your submission, I don't like the large blockiness of the logo. I would prefer not to have it so masculine looking. I am open to something other then the Celtic symbol that I first talked about. I think I would prefer to see what you can come up with from the information I provided, minus the Celtic symbol. I am so excited to see what you all come up with. Please visit my www.kdcimages.blogspot.com to get know me and my style of shooting. Thanks again for all your wonderful ideas and input on this new part of my business.

Happy 4th of JULY!!!

Hi Dewa Jaya, Thank you for your latest submission. I would like to see some more symbols/logos also I think I would like to see my name not in block letters. This symbol looks a little to much like a spider for me. . . I really strongly dislike spiders.

Thank you so much for your efforts I look forward to seeing more from you and the others.

Splunking - Thank you for your design, I think I would like to see my full name also added and maybe something try a few different shapes other then a circle.

Deanna - Thank you for your design submission again, can you try a little less frilly stuff on the circle.

Tina Wood - Thank you for your submission Ver #2 I really like where you are going with this. PMS 374 & PMS 174-8 these are two colors I like but I am open to others. I like the feeling of Zen like soothing colors not so overly strong. But that will transfer well to letterhead, polo shirts and decals and embossing.

Tina Wood - Thank you for your submission Ver. #3 I like the 3D feel to this logo style but I am not to sure about the flower.

Tina Wood - Thank you for your submission Ver. #4 This is also very nice I al happy to see something other than a circle. Can you try the colors I listed above or maybe something else.

Paula 23 - Thank for your submission Ver. # 1 The font with my name is a little to old world for my liking and I don't care for the dots. I would prefer something other then pink.

Kekpania - Thank you for your submission Ver. #4 This is not to bad, I think I would like to try different colors and also maybe a little more feminine font.

Kekpania - Thank you for your submission Ver. #5 I don't care to much for the cirlce K, the other font is not to bad but I think I would like something a bit more feminine.

Thank you all for your hard work , I look forward to seeing more from you all.

Paula 23, Thank you for your Ver. #2 I really like where you are going with this, I would like to see a little different font for my name.

Ver. #3 This is cool but a little to much like the old TV show the Partridge Family :-) I do like this font, maybe this could be one try for a different font on Ver. #2

Ver. #4 Cool 3D effect but not feeling it to much.

Thank you for all your great submissions

Karen D-C
07-17-2008, 07:38 AM
Helvetica Neue Light
Euphemia UCAS Italic
Apple Chancery
Bodoni SvtyTwo ITCTT –Book IT
Zapfino

Here are a few fonts that I have that I like... but please don't feel like these are the only ones, I am open to ones similar to these, I am just trying to be helpful with ideas and what I am looking for.
The Zapfino is what I am currently using on my watermark on my blog if that helps at all.

I love is the outdoors and nature and most of my photography with people is in natural light in a natural setting like a park, beach or mountains. I want to convey to my clients natural, fun, no stress imagery. If there is anything else I can help explain further please feel free to ask. I am will to let go of the celtic logo if there are better ideas to be brought to the table. Thank you all for all your talent and efforts I truly appreciate all of you and everything that has been submitted thus far.

Tina Wood, Thank you for all your submissions, WOW
Ver 1 a,b,c - I prefer the font of Ver. #1c.
Ver. #5 This is nice, but I'm not to sure about the little flowers.
Ver. #6 I like the star effect not so much the mark to the left of my name, the word photography looks cool there but my last name is spelled with a Z not a S so that will mess up the placement of the word photography. Though I do think that font is also pretty cool.
Ver. #7 I don't care for this one to much, also the same thing with the spelling of the last name. Don't feel bad I have even been know to hit the S instead of the Z when typing fast.

Thank you, I look forward to seeing some changes and even more ideas.

Karen D-C
07-20-2008, 06:58 AM
Tina Wood, can you try Ver. #6 without the mark to the left of my name, keep the color of the star and add green and maybe brown on my name and not the pink, PMS 374 & PMS 174-8 these are the come colors that I like but I think maybe the green a brown and the yellow might look cool. Having my first name above my last name is starting to really grow on me and it is clean and simple.

Thanks for your patience and talent!

Karen D-C
07-20-2008, 07:58 AM
Splunking - Your Ver. #1A can you make the green PMS 374 and move Photography down add my full name above Photography.

Paula23 - Ver. #2 can you keep the font the way you have it here but I would like to try different colors. I am not sure what the PMS colors are I went into photoshop and picked 3 colors I like so I will give you those if that helps
Orange ffae58
green - b8bf6f
brown - 967137
Please let me know if there is a better way for me to find the colors for you.

Thank you all for your efforts! Look forward to seeing the new looks.

Kekepania - Ver. #6 Thank you for your submission, I like the colors you are using, but I don't think I like the break of colors in the box so much. It looks great in B&W but maybe if you tried a solid color in the box it might look a little better. Thank you.
Ver. #7 I don't care for this one as much.

Splunking - Thank you for resubmitting these changes, could you tell me what the color number was on the Ver. #1A?,

On Ver. #1B I don't care for the style of the cycle with the little cycles, I think I like the thick line with a thinner line on the inside, and I like the faded look of the "d" in Ver. 1C better then Ver. #1B.

I think Ver. 1D's color around the cycle is a little to over stated and to thick. Ver.

1E I like the fact that you tried a different font for my name, but that font doesn't feel right. I would like to see my name in lower case and in something clean and somewhat simple like the kdc you have created above in the logo.

Ver. 1F - I don't care for.

Paula 23 - Ver. #7 Thank you for your changes, can you try making my name "Karen" in the orange color and the rest"dominguez-cavin" in the brown and keep "photography" in the green as for the logo can I see it a few more ways, all green , all brown, all orange and then brown and green, where the circle is brown and the other parts are green and then the other way around too please. Thank you so much for all your talent and help.

Ver. #9 This is pretty cool too, can you add the dc to the k? and also add the brown too, maybe to the word photography. Thank you I like that it is feminine yet clean.

Also can we try the circle with a thinker line on the outside and a thinner one on the inside and also I would like to see it again with out anything around too please. Oh yeah my name is spelled with a g not a q. Sorry it is so long and has nearly every later in the alphabet in it.. lol

Ver. #3c I am not to sure about this font, either. sorry
Ver. 3d this one is a little to thick of a font.

Also what I meant was to try the kdc with nothing around it but I do like it with no color around the circle. So that was a great example too! Thank you!

Hi Karen,

I was having a hard time understanding your revisions, but I think what your suggesting would be too busy. Here's what I came up with :)

LutFi - Thank you for your submission of Ver. #7 & #8, I don't care for this style to much, but thank you for your efforts.

Karen D-C

Zoe - Ver. #1 Thank you for your submission, while it is very nice, I don't think this is what I am looking for.
Thank you

Karen D-C
07-30-2008, 08:50 AM
LutFi - Ver #9 - I don't care for the "c" that way really. I don't think this is going in the direction I am looking for but Thank you.

Karen D-C
07-30-2008, 08:58 AM
Kekepania - Ver.#12 Thank you for trying what I was talking about, it was a thought, due to some comments that I am receiving regarding the logo. Lets leave out the shutter and go back to the way it was looking on your post # 63 which is Ver.# 10. Can we try it with the a font like or the actual font of post number #5. #26 and #31. I like the handwriting of my first name but the font style of my last name and the word Photography is still not working for me. Also could you try it with my name above my last name. Sorry to be such a pain, I just really want it to look right. Thank you so very much I really am liking this a lot.

Karen D-C
07-30-2008, 09:00 AM
Kekpania - Ver. #13 Thank you for trying what I said but I think you are right it is to busy. This one is close but I like the handwriting of my fist name more like post #63 Ver. #10 and I would like to stick with the brown and green colors. Maybe my fist name is a shade of green slightly darker then this one and the rest in the brown.

Thank you for your patience and amazing talents.

okay I went searching for fonts so here are some fonts I found that I like.
Alexa Std
Diskus Std
Medici Script Std
New Berolina Std
Ruzicka Freehand Std
Sanivto Pro
Zipty Do Std

Also here are some colors I looked up also.
Green currently we are using PMS 374 I also like PMS 376 & 369

Brown currently we are using PMS Black 4, I also like PMS 464 2X and 732

Purple currently we are using PMS 667, I also like PMS 668 and PMS 272

I hope this helps some. Sorry I don't mean to be so difficult.

Karen D-C
07-30-2008, 04:49 PM
Kekepania - Can we try blending Ver. #14 & #15, Lets take away the box and the shutter, so that there is only my first name on top in the green hand writing and then my last name in the brown.

If you could try the green and browns I just listed above that would be great. I am fond of the font for my first name but I am still struggling with the rest of it.

Thank you for your time and efforts they are greatly appreciated!

glyphica

your requested revisions... ;)

Karen D-C
07-30-2008, 08:33 PM
Kekepania - THANK YOU SO MUCH for Ver. #16 I am really liking this one! Can we try changing the green one more time? I would like to try PMS 370 on the green and I would like to see Ver. #16C the font you used for that one is pretty cool could you tell me what that is?

Thanks a million

glyphica
07-30-2008, 08:47 PM
The font on 'c' is Caflisch Script Pro :)

Karen D-C
07-30-2008, 09:00 PM
Kekepania - Thank you so much for the quick green change. I really hate to ask but there is currently a huge argument regarding the font for my last name, would you mind showing me a few more fonts for that but with the "Karen" unchanged. the green and brown are great. If you have any of the fonts that I have listed my post #111 would be great. Thank you so very much.

glyphica
07-30-2008, 09:30 PM
the only one I had was the Ruzicka Freehand LH I will show you some more options of what I think would look good. IMO the two script like fonts don't look as well together as a scripty font with a cleaner san-serif font for the last name.

Karen D-C
07-30-2008, 09:39 PM
okay something cleaner is okay but I don't want something to masculine, and not something super common I would like to have something somewhat unique.
Thank you for your opinion it is greatly valued!

glyphica
07-30-2008, 09:42 PM
Okay, here are some options :) Let me know if you like any of these

Kekpania - okay this is causing WWIII (ha ha) okay on Ver# 17A, Ver. #18B are the ones that are being fought over right now.. do you have anymore fonts that are similar to these.. clean and thin looking? thank you for your patience and continued hard work that is truly appreciated!

Karen D-C
07-30-2008, 10:51 PM
okay please don't kill me, but can you try a couple different fancy fonts for the "Karen" something a little less "squashed" a bit more full and somewhat upright. this is only a test.. ha ha thank you so very much for trying this all.

Karen

glyphica

Karen D-C
08-04-2008, 05:56 AM
Kekepania - Thank you for getting things to me so fast, you have been a total pleasure working with. Ver. #20 I like B and D and on Ver #22 I like the font of my last name on A and B. Do you think I could see the whole thing 4 different ways so that I can see them large enough to really be sure. So I still like the Karen the way you have it on Ver. #20 and what I would like to see is the 4 different variations of the fonts I have listed and also the name of each font use for my last name and the word Photography, oh yeah also what the font is for my fist name too. I think we are just about finished and I really want to thank you for sticky with me on this one. I really appreciate it.

glyphica
08-04-2008, 09:56 AM
Let's hope I got this right :)

The font used for 'Karen' is Carpenter ICG
Myriad Roman (for 'photography' on all versions)

23a Century Gothic Roman

23b Futura Light

24a Myriad Pro light

24b Helvetica Neue Light

Karen D-C
08-04-2008, 10:33 AM
okay I think I like Ver. #23B can I see one more thing if you don't mind... can I see what it would look like if we made the word "Photography" maybe bold or slightly darker so it stands out a little more... it is just a thought if you could. I do like the way you have the Karen left justified over the "d" it looks better that way.

glyphica
08-04-2008, 11:23 AM
The only thing that bothered me about the left justification of Karen on this one was that the d and the k overlapped. Here are a couple options (b&c) one with the 'd' top shortened and one with Karen behind the last name :)

Karen D-C
08-04-2008, 11:40 AM
Kekepania - Thank you for the changes, I think I prefer the photography thinner not bold. I see what you are say about the K and the D over lapping each other, but I actually think I do like the way that they touch in 25A. I have sent out a e-mail to a group of fellow photographers and customers to see what the response it to the new possible look. I will get back to you later today or tomorrow. Thank you so much for everything, this has been a interesting process. I am looking forward to announcing the winner and moving forward with the branding of my company.

Karen D-C
08-04-2008, 04:24 PM
Kekepania - So far everyone seems to be enjoying Ver.#23 B. Other then the over lapping of the K and D is there anything you would suggest to be added to this for most impact and style effect. I would like to know what you think or what you would recommend to do. Thank you,
Karen

glyphica
08-04-2008, 05:58 PM
Hi Karen,

I made some minor adjustments to the kerning (space between the letters) other than that I think typographically it looks good. Is there anything else specifically that you would like to add to it? :)

Karen D-C
08-04-2008, 06:10 PM
Kekepania - Thank you for those changes it is looking so awesome. I would like to see something that was suggested and that was the font of my last name on the word photography and also try photography in lower case. so far that is the only thing I think I would like to see if you could. Thanks a million once again.

glyphica
08-04-2008, 06:18 PM
ok

Karen D-C
08-04-2008, 06:29 PM
Kekepania - Thank you for being so fast about the changes, I think I like the lower case look better. can I see the new look in a window of its own so I like Ver. 27 B. Thank you...

Karen D-C
08-05-2008, 09:31 AM
Kekepania - Okay I have a question about the "Karen" is there a way to make a little fancier up-stroke on the end of the "n" like the "K"?.

Thanks

Karen D-C
08-05-2008, 07:18 PM
Kekepania - Thank you for the change, I think I like that better with the little tail. on my last name is it bold? it seems darker. I want to go with the thin version of my last name.

Thank you
You are the greatest!!!!

Hi Stephanie, Thank you again for your talents! On my last name is that bold? It seems darker or bold I would prefer a it look thin like the word Photography. Also I wanted to ask about the shade of brown. I went to a PMS chart and was looking at different shades to see if there was something I liked better and also was checking on the green too. Here are a few that I was looking at.

Brown - PMS 1405, PMS 160, PMS 1615, PMS 469

Green - PMS 363, PMS 364

On the B&W version is there any way to make the "Karen" look lighter black then the rest?

glyphica
08-07-2008, 09:58 AM
The fonts haven't changed, and that is the thinest your last name can go with that font :) If you'd like I can thicken photography slightly to match your last name? Here are those color variations

Karen D-C
08-11-2008, 08:19 AM
Hi Stephanie - sorry I have not been around, been so busy. Okay here are a few more thoughts on making final changes. Can I see Ver #30 A and D those colors on one screen? Also is there any way to make the cool tail you made for the N out and up slightly, more like a 45 degree angle. Sorry to be so picky. I really appreciate all your patience with me and my little weird changes. Thank you so much. on the B&W version can we reverse the tones from what I said I think I would like to see my name in the black and the rest in the lighter color. thank you so very much

Karen D-C
08-11-2008, 08:22 AM
as for the thickness of the Dominguez-Cavin is there a similar font that is slightly thinner? I like this font for the clean simple lines of it but I think it needs to be a little thinner. Thanks

Karen D-C
08-11-2008, 08:33 AM
I like Ver. #23 B, A is the thicker one and B is the thinner one can you check and see if somewhere along the way it was changed. I have tried looking at them all side by side and it seems thicker then 23 B, so I just wanted to check with you and see if in all my changes it somehow we got using 23A not 23B.

Thanks again

glyphica
08-11-2008, 09:50 AM
Hi Karen,

Okay, I looked back and it looks like because we changed 'photography' to a different font and lowercase, it makes your name appear thicker because the font for 'photography' is now thinner. Does that make sense? How do you want me to proceed? :)

Karen D-C
08-11-2008, 10:00 AM
okay, can you see if there is a similar font that is slightly thinner, first, then we can also try making the Karen a little darker like you had said before to make my last name appear thinner. Thanks for asking and checking. Also did you see my post 150?

glyphica

Thank you again for making the changes to quickly. I like the way the B&W look, thanks. Can you put PMS 1405 & PMS 363 together and then put PMS 364 & PMS 469. I want to see if they look better that way. Thank you

glyphica

08-11-2008, 04:40 PM
okay, question... is the word photography bold? it seems it is darker then in Ver#29 ?

glyphica
08-11-2008, 04:42 PM
I made it slightly thicker to match your last name... is that not what you wanted??

Karen D-C
08-11-2008, 04:44 PM
maybe what I should ask is what is the font size difference between Ver. #29 and Ver. # 33? For the my first name and last name and the word photography. Thanks again for putting up with all this craziness.

Karen D-C
08-11-2008, 04:45 PM
I would prefer to have the word photography thinner like in Ver. #29 please. I like it that way. Thanks a million

glyphica
08-11-2008, 04:55 PM
Okay I made it the same size as #29 and the fonts are the same as well... :)

Karen D-C
08-11-2008, 09:18 PM
okay what size are the fonts in #34?

Karen D-C
08-11-2008, 09:39 PM
okay one more change to the tail of the N can you make it so that it does not curl up but allow it to go in the same direction that you have it just remove the curl up. if that makes sense.

Thank you

Hi Stephanie, I want to explain what I am trying to do here and why there has been so many changes to the "N", I have a friend that is Chinese and understands feng shui (the flow of good energy) so what she is explaining to me is that the tail of the "N" is curving in a way that will not allow the flow of good energy to my company. Not everyone believes in it, but I felt I owed you an explanation of why there has been so many changes to the "N".

Okay now, one more change, the tail needs to go out at a 45 degree angle with no tail up and back, if you think it looks better with a end stroke like the K (not the straight line down but the front part of the K that is like a arm leaning forward, that direction is allow good chi to flow also, so maybe we can look at those 2 possibilities.
Thanks again for your professionalism and being so extremely patient with me.

Hi Stephanie, Sorry it has been so long since I have been able to get back to you on this. I have been out of town working and was not really able to focus on this. I am back now. I am waiting to hear from the Feng Shui expert about the tail of the "N", I just sent a e-mail to her. There was something that had been mentioned to me regarding the size of the "aren" compaired to the "K" and I was wondering if you could make them slightly larger. not as big as the "K" but a little bigger then they are. If you wouldn't mind. I am still waiting to hear about the tail of the "N" so if you would like to wait until that answer comes through before you make any more changes that is fine. I truly appreciate all your patience and talents!

Sincerely,
Karen

Hi Stephanie,
Thank you for your patience. I have talked to my friend and she agrees with my comment to enlarge the "aren" of my first name, it seems a little squashed. Now for the all pain in the butt "n" can you make the tail of the 'n' go out at a 45 degree angle and nor curve up or down more like if you wrote it by hand and just ended it without a whip up.

Thank you again for all your time and efforts!

Karen

glyphica
09-04-2008, 09:39 AM
Hi Karen,

By the 45 degree angle are you meaning for the 'n' tail to point straight out to the right with no curve? Sorry, this is getting complicated  hehe

09-04-2008, 10:06 AM
Hi Stephanie,
I'm sorry this is so detailed and such a pain. #36 is close for me but if you could make it so that it does not curve up and back on the end of the tail. I think the angle is good just the tip of the tail is really the issue. Also the size of the "aren" if you could make them a little less squashed, so that they are a little more proportional to the "K". Thanks again for everything!!

Hi Stephanie,
Thank you for the changes so far, can you try making the "aren" slightly larger and the tail of the "n" a bit longer. I am trying to actually see what this is going to look like by writing it by hand. I wish I had better penmen-ship so I could crate my own font and make this easier on you. I am really sorry about all the trouble. I really appreciate all you are doing for me in creating my logo.

Thank you. . . truly !!
