Puke for you....another photographer!! Hopefully this will be fun for someone! Thanks in advance
Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Gatermann Photography
My tag line is "capturing the art of life" but that doesn't have to be included....just thought I'd throw it out there.
What type of product or service do you offer?
Lifestyle Portraiture for babies, families, seniors and weddings
How long have you been in business?
5 years
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
Something "me" that will instantly convey my style as well as my personality while setting me apart from the seemingly millions of us pestering logo desiners...oh and set me apart from my competition as well!
What are your long term goals?
Continue to build and expand my ever growing and changing business, while keeping solid relationships with my existing clients.
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
July 8th
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Middle to upper class families and brides who want a fresher more personal approach to capturing the moments that are important in their lives
Who would you like to add to your audience?
Of course I want to add more of the upper class clients, who doesn't? More importantly, I want to add more clients who appreciate the importance of quality portraits and images and see the value in a professional photographic experience regardless of their income level.
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
I really would like a graphic incorporated into my logo. With the last name Gatermann, I would love to have an alligator incorporated somehow. I'm sure that's where it gets sticky....I'm thinking sophisticated whimsy, while still holding a bit of class for my wedding clients, nothing too cartoonish or to detailed....I'm thinking along the lines of the Lacoste brand sort of?? I will definately know what I want when I see it.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
I really don't. After 5 years, I'm working on rebranding, and this is my first stop. I'm leaning more toward natural colors, nothing too bright....but would certanly entertain anything you can come up with. You guys are the professionals! I would like something that would work in black and white as well as color.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
Only the gator or gatorish additon....man I sound like a pain!
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
Professional, unique, creative, sophisticated in a whimsical way, fun.
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
That my business is creative, one of a kind, not the "norm" and comfortable, oh and fun...have I said that enough?
Where will your new logo be used?
Website, watermark, blog, marketing, business cards/forms, letterhead, etc.
Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
This is not a competetor, but I love one of her old logos, and this is shared with her permission:
http://jessicadittmerphotography.typepad.com/midnighthourdesign/2007/08/index.html
the logo is at the bottom of the page.
Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Creative and fresh...and say it along with me....fun
So, that's it, I guess. I turn it over to the very talented bunch here, and with MUCH anticipation, I will stalk this thread like a crazy person!!
Thanks again,
Heather

Hi! Thanks so much, you're quick. My vision was originally not in this direction at all, but I like it. Is there a different font we could use? I'm not sure I'm entirely in love with the gator, but I like this direction. Again, not what I had envisioned but I like it.
Thanks!

Hi Deanna,
You really are quick! You know, the more I look at the gator, the more I like it. I was picturing simpler, but I think it's working with the scrolls. As far as the font, the only reason that it's not working for me is because my existing logo is similar to that font. I have a rectangle swirly boarder with a font very close to this one. While I loved my old logo....I'm here for a change. I'm typically drawn to more quirky scripty fonts, but you've wow'ed me so far, so if you feel the need for something else that's fine as well.
Thanks so much!

I'm afraid that I didn't convey that I don't necessarily need a full gator graphic, but the outline, hint, etc. of a gator would work as well. Don't feel limited by the gator, either, I love that Deanna surprised me with something that I hadn't considered, so feel free to submit other ideas as well. Initals, no graphic, etc.
Thanks again, I'm anxious/excited to see any new submissions.

Tina, you read my mind. This is what I had in mind until I saw Deannas.....you guys really are going to make this hard, aren't you?
I can't think of any changes right not, Tina. Let me look at them a bit, and I'll get back to you....I really like all of these! Of course, I would love to see more!

Tina~
I've stared at it a bit more....I don't want to change these, but is there any way you can take the same concept of the scales and apply it to the whole "gatermann" part? I don't know if it will work or not, but heck, the name is long enough....I kind of wonder what it would look like with the scales....I like the hint of alligator with the name and the scales. Thanks!

Deanna, I'm still not feeling the font....maybe less quirky?? And I like the idea of v2 and v3, I don't like them as much as v1. I don't think I mentioned that I really like the color choices, for all of these by the way.
SO, Deanna, if you could find another different font maybe more script than quirk...
And Tina, do you mind doing the gatermann with scales as well?? And what would v1 look like with the gator first rather than last??
You guys rock!! Thanks so much!

Wait, I just thought of a general question. If I pick one design....a full logo, is it possible just to get a "g" in addition to that for my watermark? Does that make sense? So if I picked version 3, could a get a "g" with the scales for my watermark? Not sure what the rules are with that?

Since I'm here pestering you on a holiday.....
Tina, is it possible to see v3&4 with a greyish eggplant color instead of just the grey? And do you mind switching the fonts on those two?
Deanna I think I really like the font on the first one in 2d-f the best.
Would love to see more designers.....hint, hint....

07-05-2008, 09:27 AM
Hi Paula, thanks for playing!
I really like the concept of this one, but the alligator looks too Lizard, Aztech, Southwestern.....I really like the layout and the general direction, but the gator and the overall feel is off. Can you do something similar but less southwestern? I realize that's VERY vague, I appreciate your take on it though! I do like the font of the rest. Thanks, again.

So, I've been staring at these all day, without a chance to comment until now...sorry!!
Paula, I'm not crazy about the last design, and the more I look at the other 2 versions, the more I wonder. I'm afraid that my clients won't realize that the gator is a "g", and potential clients will think I'm "Atermann Photography". Is there any way you could try a different gator for the "g". Even if you went with a less distinct more sketchy, freehand line looking gator? Just a thought....I really like the idea, but I know it's a "g", but will eveyone else see it??
Deanna...is there any way we could tone down the colors and maybe antique (and I can't believe I'm going to go trendy here) or shabby chic?? I REALLY like this design, but it seems too bold and detailed to be me. If we could soften it up somehow?
I really appreciate everyone's hard work so far...I really like each design so far, but just don't feel quite there yet. Thanks so much,
Heather

Paula,
Now I think we're getting closer. I really like the font on the last one, but I'm still hung up a bit on the alligator. What if I took the gator restriction off?? I'm afraid I'm limiting you with the alligator? Or, could you do a more freeform sketchy gator for the g?
LutFi, you are very talented....I really love the gator on yours. My only worry is how it would parlez into the portrait/wedding world. Could we use a less contemporary font? Maybe something less bold, a little softer?
Kekepania, I really love the gator that you designed...I know I described myself as sophisticated whimsy, but I was looking for something not SO whimsical (although, personally, I would love to hang this gator in my house!) I was looking for something with a more sophisticated feel. Not so swirly and girly. If I only worked with children, this would ABSOLUTELY work, but I just don't think that it would work with my wedding clients. Is a less whimsical gator a possibility?
I really like those Deanna, the colors are great, and I love that font on these. Thanks so much for your patience with me!
I really can't thank you all enough. I'm in awe of all of the talent and creativity here. Thank you so very much!!

These look great!!
LutFi, I really like this version, the font is great. Really, really like it. Thanks so much!!
Kekepania, I love this version as well! Another logo that I hadn't envisioned, but I really like it. Is there any way we could make the underhang of it's belly a little thinner. I have no idea why that is bugging me, but it is. I really really like it though, the design, the colors, everything!!
This is going to be a VERY difficult decision! You guys are an extremely talented bunch. Thank you so much!
Is there anyone who would want to try a shadowy outline of a gator with the name inside of it? Not sure if I'm doing the description justice, but a gator shadow faded into the background (either b&w or color) with the name either inside or transposed over the top of the shadow? I appreciate all of what you've done so far, so if not, not a big deal. Just thought I'd finally unveil what my lame vision was. Thanks! You guys really are patient!

Just to clarify, as long as it's a component of the design you selected (meaning not an additional concept that requires extra design work), that's not against any of our policies for the designer to provide you with that type of file.
For reference, though, just so you know, the designers CANNOT submit mockups of the watermark prior to the project completion. I realize you didn't ask for that, but just wanted to throw it out there so you'd know.
Thanks!

Tina,
First of all, THANK YOU!! Your designs were perfect....the only problem? I can't choose. Breathe a sigh of relief in that I probably won't change whichever one I choose, so hopefully, you won't hold it against me! For the very first time I feel like our clients when they ask why I gave them so many choices.....I really love them all so much. I thought I had my mind made up, then you had to throw that last one in there....man.
Thanks again. You really are the best. I will let you know by tomorrow night which one is the one if that's ok?
hgater
07-16-2008, 06:52 PM
Ok, Tina. After much wishy washy, agonizing decision making....I'm ready. I'm going to go with the initial one that I fell in love with, #3. Shew, feels good to say choice made. The only change that I want to make is the font of Gatermann. Can I change it to the gatermann font on #2 (or another font that you think would work? Or even a little tag at the top of the g? I just don't like the g on the font that's on the original version #3).
Now, another question. Do you hold designs and for how long? I'm thinking about branding seperately for weddings, and if I should do that, I would like to purchase #2 at a later date if that's possible.
Finally, do I pay extra for a watermark?
Thanks again, Tina. These are really phenomenal. I can't even explain how tough of a decision this was! You really are talented (and insanely patient), and I thank you so much!

Tina!!! AAARRRHHH, you're killing me!!!! I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with #6, but let me look at it for a few hours! Thanks for asking about the watermark....then again, I'm not sure I'll really need one or not. You are the Queen designer of all things logo!! LOVE these! I'll let you know tonight (and this time I really mean tonight!)
