What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Wild Photography

Please take a look at my website, the first page (http://www.wildphotography.co.nz) and the blog (http://www.wildphotography.co.nz), don't worry about the gallery, it's a bit out of date.

What type of product or service do you offer?
Wedding photography. I offer a personalised service to suit customers, if required I help them plan their wedding day to ensure they have a great day and get great photos. I'm upper mid range of the wedding market, and i'd like to stay about there, maybe go a little higher. I'd like to expand from my areas to cover a wider area.

In the future I may offer portrait/baby photography.

How long have you been in business?
Approx 5 years

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
I'd like to start branding my business, and get some name and brand recognition. I'd like to take advantage of my name, it must be an advantage!

What are your long term goals?
To offer wedding photography as my core business, with portrait, baby, and other types of photography. I'd like to be a business with many photographers.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
20 July 2008

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Brides mostly in their mid twenties to mid thirties, but a few younger and fun retired or near retired couples.

Who would you like to add to your audience?
Mid twenties to mid thirties is my target. I also want to attract customers who come home from the UK to New Zealand to get married, and the more mature couple, but 25-35 is my core target.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
I'm of two minds. Usually I like simple and elegant, but i'd also like to take advantage of the "Wild" name. Those requirements unfortunately seem to be opposites, but if someone can combine them... fantastic!

I'm dropping my first name from the business name to make it easier to expand.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
No. I generally like bright, cheerful colours, but a professional image is most important.

I'll change my website(s) to match the logo designed, right now the website has a black background and the blog has a white background, but this can be altered easily.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
No - something in the Wild/passionate/creative space. But still it has to be professional.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
Wild! Creative & fun, but professional and dependable. I'm in the middle of my target age group, so I can relate to my customers well.

What is your tagline or slogan?
N/A (that's my next project)

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
A passionate, talented photographer, but also a reliable, dependable professional.

Where will your new logo be used?
Website, business cards, stationary, advertising.

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
Most don't have much in the way of logos, just their names in a font they like. That doesn't help their branding, I guess.

List competitive URLs if possible
http://www.rdphotography.co.nz/
http://www.thephoto.co.nz/
http://www.visiondesign.co.nz/wedding-photographer.html - cool logo, but not for me, too complex
http://www.woolf.co.nz/online/index.html - logo is simple, effective, and the name well known

What sets you apart from your competitors?
The name! Passion, flair, style, professionalism.

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Creative wedding photography with passion & style, but that i'm a reliable professional as well.

Note:
I will also ask the winning designer to design business cards for me, for an additional fee of course, and maybe a new website template later.

Thanks Tina, my first impression is it's kinda cool but not really as professional as i'd like.

I kinda figured since Wild is such a strong word it would stand out in the logo design. It does stand out in this version, but then gets chopped up.

Tina, thanks again for your effort :)

#2 - I like the square concept, but the lizard (or whatever it is) doesn't grab me - it's kinda cute but has no relevance to my business, and doesn't say "wild" to me. I like the vertical text.

#3 looks quite serene and calming, not Wild at all. I like the red writing, and I like the placement of the words. I wonder if you can play with this idea a little more, making it more dynamic and less serene.

I don't feel that a graphic is necessary, but if I found a logo with a great graphic i'd probably go with that over one with no graphic. I guess it depends what people come up with.

Hi! Here's my entry. Thanks!:)

Kekepania - I like the color, but it seems like it's a logo for a childs playground, not a wedding photography business.

Skyvee - I like the general idea, Wild in red, photography in black with white writing. Can you perhaps play with the "Wild" font a little to make it slightly more structured/formal, and make the L look like an L not a T. Also I don't really like the wavy black around Photography, I would prefer it were more uniform.

I like both of those variations of the "photography" bit :) I'm not so keen on the "Wild" font, it seems the W is leaning to the left, and middle is leaning to the right, the d is just by itself. Maybe with another font? Something bold, dynamic, and probably a little bit more ordered than that font - but not too much.

Sorry i'm being a pain in the butt!

I like the idea of Alvin #4, but the font just seems a bit casual to me.

After thinking some more I quite like some of the elements from tinawood #3. Maybe dropping the graphic and making the W of Wild a feature so it could be used standalone? Or with tinawood #2 dropping the lizard and putting another W inside the black box?

Just a note i'm in New Zealand so it might take me a day to comment on designs after they're posted.

Oooh, that's better! Can I see it with only one W (if that works), and with a more legible font? I want people who see the logo to recognise the word easily, so they can find and hire me!

Kekepania - brilliant! Simple, classy, and professional. I'm not sure about the colors, that's something i'll think about and get back to you on, since I don't have consistent colors for my business... yet. Suggestions welcome!

Alvin - this is the best one from from you so far, i'm really liking the concept. I'm still not liking the font much, it doesn't seem very polished. I like the sloppy border of the square. Overall it doesn't scream "professional" to me. I also wonder how it would look with the W entirely inside the box - it might not work at all, I can't visualise it.

Hi. This icon can be used on its own and would make a great watermark down in the corner of your photos....

Carol - i'm not so keen on the asymmetery of that one.

Kekepania - i'm still loving your concept and those colors are all great. A thin outline around the edges of the "L" might work well to make it stand out against a black background, which it will be on sometimes. I don't think you need to do a proof of that, I can imagine it fine.

Pracus - thanks for the idea, I like it but I need it to be easier to read.

Unless something comes up with something fantastic in the next day or so i'll go with Kekepania, one of the colors in #3 probably.

Thanks to everyone for providing me with ideas for logos, i'm going to work with Kepepania to tweak this into a final version :)

Kekepania - i'll be in touch in the next couple of days, i'm still thinking about colors and how it'll fit in with my blog and website.

Thanks for the variations. I agree, the version with the outlined text isn't great, but none of the color combos jump out at me as great for on a black background because the top of the black L blends in with the black background. White on red's ok, red on green's ok. I love the logo itself, the B&W version's great, I might even just go with that, but having a bit of color to bring attention to it's a good thing.

I wonder if a grey semi-translucent box would work, but i'd have to have play in photoshop to see how it looks. Once I have the high res version I can play with the colors pretty easily I presume.

Hi, thanks for all the variations. I like #5 best of all, it seems the most versatile. For the web i'll use white text, red box, on a black background, for print i'll use black text on a red box with the white background. As a watermark i'll use plain black overlaid on my photos.

So long as the final format is one where I can change the colors myself later in Photoshop if I want to please go ahead and produce #5 as my final choice.
