Hello Designers!
My name is Fiona Colvin and I am managing the logo design for my husband's legal practice. We would like someone to create a new brand for his newly launched business.
Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Murray Colvin Legal
What type of product or service do you offer?
Corporate legal services.
How long have you been in business?
10 years
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
It's a newly named business and we like it to be fresh, innovative but still professional. We want it to look "swish".
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
As soon as possible, but 3 August
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
High end financial services clients and large scale financial institutions.
Who would you like to add to your audience?
General corporate business requiring legal services. We want to look polished and professional, but still stylish.
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
We would like something modern but not over the top. We like simple clean lines and nothing too dated or clumsy.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
We would like shades of blue to silver with perhaps an accent colour of silvery/brown (sorry can't think of the word), but we don't want a traditional brown, but almost a grey/brown. Sorry I'm not more decisive. However, if you can come up with a colour combo that will look good printed in black and white as well, we'll be happy. We really want someone to come up with something that's unique. We don't want the current trend of blue/brown, we want something strong.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo-
Obviously we don't want anything to elaborate or with lots of flourishes. However, we would be happy to see "mc" or "mcl" used in some fashion - something creative though, not just the letters stuck together.
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
High end, professional, experienced, stylish.
What is your tagline or slogan?
-none
Where will your new logo be used?
website, blog, letterhead, envelope, business card.
Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
Not really fussed.
What sets you apart from your competitors?
experience, skill, attention to detail
Thanks so much and we really look forward to seeing what you come up. Please don't hesitate to ask if you need any more feedback or direction.
Fiona

Thank you everyone for your responses!
OFFBEAT DESIGN: With Version 2, can you please try this with a different font possibly. Maybe one that isn't so blocked?

DEWA JAYA. Thank you, both great designs, but none that really suit.
PRACUS. Thank you, not quite what we're looking for.
KEKEPANIA. Thank you. We like the bottom half of Version One, but not keen on the MC blocked like that and the M in Version Two is too feminine for us. Could you adjust for us?
ALVIN. Can you do a version without the accents on the top of the MC. Would it be possible for you to try this logo concept with another font or two.
Thanks everyone and please feel free to submit more.
Regards

Hi designers. Thanks for the updates.
I'm still not clicking with any of the logos at this point. I'm happy with quite a few variations of "murray colvin legal", but I'm not keen on any of the variations of "mc". Perhaps we might try something without the "mc".
If there are any other designs, please feel free to add.
Thanks.

Hi all, so sorry for the delay in responding. We had a few personal things come up and this was put on the backburner.
Thank you everyone for your designs.
KEKEPANIA I am preferring your ideas at the moment. I like the fonts and layout of Murray Colvin Legal.
In regard to Version #1 - I like this, but I don't instantly love the way MC is displayed. Maybe it's a bit boxy? Do you have any other ideas that are similar?
In regard to Version #2 - we like this, but I think it's too feminine for a male business. If you had something similar, but not as feminine perhaps.
Thank you everyone else, we won't be opting for any others that we've seen currently.
We are open to other suggestions.
We had one idea where the M and the C were done in block lettering and the end of the M and the beginning of the C merged and where they intersected there was a colour merging. Anyone got any ideas on how to make that work.
Thanks again.
Fiona

Thank you all again.
Dewa Jaya - I just wanted to say that your concept is so creative and we love it. Unfortunately, although we don't want anything too heavy and masculine, this one for us is too on the feminine side for him - he practices financial services law and although we don't want anything traditional and boring, we can't either go with something that looks like a flower. Thank you though - it's really clever.
Tini - at the moment your logo is interesting to us. We would like to see it in a couple of ways if possible:
1. A different font. We'd like something modern and square. I have seen a font on another thread for a photographer's logo by Tina Wood and we really like that style.
2. Can we see how it would look in a square or circle or rounded edge square with a colour and the logo in white.
3. Can we see it with some different ways to present the name, ie. the logo to the side, the words on different lines, just a couple of different options.
We would also love to see if anyone else has anything modern and fresh as we're as yet completely decided.
Thank you again.

Hi Missy, thanks again. Although you may not thank me as I'd like to see a couple of options. So sorry :)
1. Can we try the logo symbol as per your first draft (no box) to the left then a vertical line and then murray, colvin and legal on separate lines going down. We're not sure how this will work due to the different lengths of each word, but if you could work this out or change the fonts to suit if necessary.
2. We would like to use three separate colours. We want them to graduate down in colour. So a darker at the top and lighter at the bottom but all gradients of the one colour. Then the symbol in the lighter colour.
The colours I came up with were 718395, 7e9ab0, bdc0c3. I'm not certain these are right so if you can use what you think would be more suitable colours "aroundabout" that would be great. We're not experts at this, so we'd appreciate you making suggestions or alterations.
OK, I think that's it. Let me know if you don't think that will work and we'll thinking again.
Thanks so much.

Hi Missy. We've been thinking over it - sorry for the delay. We're going to go with F1A. Could we also have a version in all grey? We sometimes print the letterhead from the laser printer and don't want it to be black as it's a bit imposing. If it's sent to me as a file I can alter in Photoshop, then I can do that myself. I'm just not certain how the files are sent.
Then if you just want to let me know about the biz card and letterhead.
Thanks so much.
