Project Summary:

The logo is for a scooter club in San Marcos, TX. The zip code here is 78666, so the club name is 78666 Scoots.

What text should be included in the main part of the logo?

The text should include 78666 Scoots. In a playful nod to all the tough motorcycle gangs out there, we downplay the 78 and emphasize the 666 in the name. This can be done by making the 78 smaller, making it subscript, superscript, putting it in parenthesis, etc.

What type of product or service do you offer?

We are a social club and we have organized rides and group activities. We also try to promote scooters and other alternate forms of transportation to the city of San Marcos.

How long have you been in business?

This is a new club.

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?

This is merely to help with branding. The logo will go on business cards, flyers, websites, stickers, patches, shirts, etc.

What are your long term goals?

Our long-term goals are to increase membership and increase participation in events, as well as to raise awareness with the city and promote things like scooter parking, scooter stowage on commuter rail, etc.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?

August 11, 2008

Audience Profile:

Our audience is anyone with a scooter. Most of the residents of San Marcos are college-age and the city has a very youthful feel, so our members are young or young at heart.

Who would you like to add to your audience?

More scooter riders and people who might be interested in scooters.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?

We would like a light-hearted logo. We want to play up the 666, with a devil, devil horns, fire, whatever, but we want to do so in a fun, cartoonish way. The logo should not be something that you might expect to find a hardcore biker gang using.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)

I do not have any colors in mind. Because the logo will also be used on members’ scooters, which can be just about any color imaginable, the logo should work very well in monochrome.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?

We definitely want to include a scooter. Beyond that, it is wide open. We will need two varieties of the logo. One inside a shield (or an outline of the state of Texas) and one without the shield.

What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?

Fun.

What is your tagline or slogan?

We do not have one at this time.

Where will your new logo be used?

Letterhead, T-Shirts, business cards, stickers, website, email signatures

Attached are some logos from PJs Parts as well as an example of a badge from another scooter club. Thanks in advance for the help!

Here's another badge/shield from a scooter parts shop.

It is in two pieces, because that is how they had it on their site, but you get the idea.

You can see it intact, here:

Pracus,

Thanks for the prompt submission.

I like the idea. Can you make the scooter solid? Also, there will need to be a variation that fits inside a cicle, or shield, or an outline of the state of Texas, so that we can create badges to put on the scooters. So, the design may need to be rearranged so that it is more square.

Thanks again.

Thanks to everyone who has submitted a design so far!

Cazeyman, I like your design, but the 78 is a little too pronounced when the red is removed. How about centering the 666, making the 78 about half the size it is now and lining it up with the top of the 666?

Giant, I like both of your designs as well. For the first design, I would only remove the horns from the 666. For the second design, could you make the 78 and the Scoots smaller and the 666 with the scooter larger, so that this is the most pronounced part of the design?

Thanks again. These look great!

Thanks again to everyone for the submissions and revisions!

Kekepania, I like this design, but the rider looks a little too much like a Jack-o-lantern and I am not sure if the layout will really work for a badge. Can you work on the devil face a little? I'd like to keep it playful, but make it look a little more like a devil.

I don't want to copy someone else's design, but here is an old cartoon devil that may give you some ideas.

http://forerunner.finearts.yorku.ca/~nmw/comics/hotstuff/hotst05.jpg

Paula, I like this design, but it reminds me of a professional sports logo. I can't remember which one and I was not able to find it. Anyway, I think there may be too much similarity there. I'm sorry I can't find the logo, so I can give you a better idea of the problem.

Fabian, that logo is a little plain, but I appreciate the submission and would welcome more ideas.

Giant, could you try a variation of 1.1, but instead of the pitchfork below the handlebars, cut off the scooter just below the headlight and add a rider?

Versions 3 and 4 are cool, but they don't really capture the image I am looking for.

Thanks again to everyone!

All,

Thanks again!

Kekepania, that's better. Can you do a variation of 2.5 with the face white and outlined in black for the monochrome, instead of solid black?

Giant, 1.2 looks good, but a little menacing. Can you put a smile on the rider's face and maybe soften the features a little?

Paula, I really like where you are going with version 2, but it is a little abstract and the scoots is a little small. Could you make the devil outline so that it completely contains the 78666 Scoots?

Thanks again. I've been getting lots of positive comments on these. It is going to be tough to choose.

Thanks for the feedback:)
Let me know if this is what you had in mind.
The devil outline is also suppose
to be an "S" ...like Superman:)

Thanks!

Paula and Kekepania, thanks again for the revisions.

Paula, that's what I was looking for. I see the S in the original design now, but that may have been too many themes in one image. It is getting very close now.

Can you make the Scoots even bigger and make the 78666 just text, instead of the ribbon? Maybe put it above and to the left of the Scoots, with the 666 slightly more pronounced than the 78?

Thanks again!

Pracus,

I'd like to do a couple of minor revisions. Thanks.

The first is the colors. I didn't have a color preference at the beginning and I'm still not sure that I do, but I would like to try a 2-color version with gold PMS 123U and purple PMS 2592U. Those are colors that I pulled from the local high school and university, for another organization I started.

Second, I'd like to remove the flames from the 666. The larget letters and the horns and tail on the scooter get the theme across well and the flames are hard to make out in the monochrome version.

Last, I'd like to try a couple of different shield shapes. If you could do one shaped like Texas and one similar to the one on the black scooter picture at the start of the thread, that would be great.

Thanks again!

Version 4 looks really good. The colors look a little off, though.

Here is a link to the other design with those colors, if that helps. I can send you the psd or other files if you need me to.

Is it possible to get the scooter, Texas, 78666 and scoots in 4 separate layers, so that I can create variations for web, business cards, etc?
