Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Jennifer Chase Photography or Jennifer Chase Photo if that looks better in the design
What type of product or service do you offer?
I am photographer. About 50% of my business is weddings. The other half is documentary, travel, lifestyle, and portraiture.
How long have you been in business?
1 year
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
consistent brand for my two websites: www.jenniferchasephoto.com and www.jenniferchaseweddings.com , business cards, promotional materials, stickers, cd's, etc. I would like a logo that I can use with one color combination for my weddings business and another color combination for my editorial. the wedding one is more important for this design and i can switch it over to my editorial colors. I'd like the files in psd layers or illustrator so i can do this.
What are your long term goals?
I'd like to get the attention of editors for travel, documentary and lifestyle pieces. I'd like to build on wedding business catering to customers with sophisticated and creative tastes.
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
august 18
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Who would you like to add to your audience?
editors, clients with money to spend
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
I want something fun and modern but not to modern. definitely something that says lifestyle and travel photography. Happy and fun but not cutesy. Nothing in wedding=y type font. Something I can use on email and postcard promos and won't be too distracting. i don't want anything super scrolly, nothing overtly wedding-. no wedding bells, glasses, brides and grooms, etc. i like more magazine type fonts. i want my logo to look like something you could picture in travel and leisure.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
i need something that will work in black and white and a couple of different color combinations.
i like a greyish blue and white but i'm open to other ideas.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
see attachments. none of these have to be in the logo they're just some graphics or logos that i like. but i'm really open for ideas please do not just use these. obvoiusly i wouldn't want the same thing but i also like what they came up with in post 137 of this thread: http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16630&page=5
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
engaging, happy, intimate, full of life, evocative, both modern and classic, simple elegance
What is your tagline or slogan?
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
Where will your new logo be used?
business cards, promo postcards, websites, stickers, cd covers
Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
it's hard to say who my competitors are since I do a lot of different things. generally weddings wise it's all over the place. for editorial it's very simple. nothing that distracts from the photos or looks too cutesey.
List competitive URLs if possible
What sets you apart from your competitors?
many of my wedding clients appreciate my non-wedding work. i tend to attract well-traveled, sophisticated clients.
Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
evocative, full of life

Hi unorthodox,
thanks for working on this. i'm not quite feeling this design. the symbol in the middle reminds me a bit of a snail. I do want some kind of symbol or something in my logo that i can put on stickers though. It's a good start. If you have other ideas I'd love to see them.

Hi unorthodox. these are good ideas. i know i said i dont' want anything too cutsesy but a bit too much at the other end of the spectrum, too coporate to me. I also don't like Jennifer Chase in that font. They seem a bit stiff. I don't think it's want them in all caps either. At least not in that font.

thanks for the quick responses and elaborate feedback, i'll try to come up with more concepts later :)

hi kekepania, thanks for contributing. i'm not really feeling the j. i definitely want some sort of symbol i can use on stickers or as a watermark but the j in the middle is not doing it for me.
i do like the fonts and spacing though.
other ideas?

Thanks for joining xpressions!
# 1 i see where your going with this and i like that it's something different but i think it's a bit too globe-ish and a business clip art-ish. i think something like this would work for something more corporate but i want something a little more, hip and elegant at the same time. think Real Simple or Travel and Leisure magazines.
after i posted this i saw version#2. I like these more.

xpressions,
i like how this is a little more modern and graphic looking but i'm not loving those letters like that. and the name looks too scrunched in there.

kekepania,
this is a nice direction. clean and simple. but it looks a bit generic to me. i don't like the j circle.
jchase
08-13-2008, 08:20 AM
kekepania,
i liked how you used the rough shaped circle in version #2. maybe you could take that and do something simple with it?

hello xpressions. that is fun looking, i don't think it's what i'm looking for though. i'm not sure if i'm feeling the box like that. maybe some sort of simple icon and then my name. kind of like the F from the image is found up there. though obviously i don't want the same thing. but just thinking along the lines of some sort of little icon or illustration and then my name.
thank you everyone for your hard work so far.

kekepania,
i think we're getting somewere with version #6. I like the circle though i think it looks a little messy with the thin circles around it. and i don't like the jc in the middle at least not in that font. version 5 is also kind of nice though i don't like the jc font again. can you play with these a bit? thanks!

i'm not really feeling this. i really don't like the font and i'm not loving the symbol, though i like how it's starting to be a bit more abstract.

I've always loved the graphic lines of a morrocan style arch. maybe someone one can play with this and come up with something kind of modern/elegant/playful that references this but isn't too direct?

jchase
08-15-2008, 11:28 AM
tini1-- both of these are awesome!!
can you mess with the shape in version 3 a bit maybe make it a little thinner and a little wider or something to give it a little more of the shape in my picture.
i like version 5 too. but i'm not sure about the circle in the parenthesis. can you try a couple things for me. 1. the same j inside the parenthesis but no circle. and 2. no parenthesis but the circle j with maybe a bit different shape. either a smoother circle or more off.
thanks!!!!

tini1 i really love just the plain circle with the j in it like that! very classic, simple, but fun too.
kekepania, your scroll design #10 is gorgeous.
offbeat, love, love the creative stuff you came up with in #3 and #10. love the j. it reminds me of an asian figure drawing. just love it. i like the doorway design around it too...but...i sent it to a friend (when there was only version #3) and she liked it also but said it did remind her a bit of a penis and now i think so too. funny how phallic those doorways look now. :) Really love what you did with #4 and #5 !!
I'm think about all of these over the weekend. Thanks so much everyone!

Everyone has come up with some really great things here and even some of the stuff I can't use for this I'm thinking I might contact the designer to use the ideas for future promotion ideas I have. I've sent it out to some people for trusted opinion and I just want to try a couple things before I make a choice.
tini1 - can i see the circle in post # 52 in a couple different colors: red, blue grey, and with a couple different placements. also can you try two different fonts for Jennifer Chase and photography.
xpressions - can i see #31 with a different font for Jennifer Chase also the jennifer chase in two different shades of blue or two different shades of red.
Offbeat design - can i see the j in #54 in something with just my name but starting with the j. i could use the j on stickers, watermarks, etc. i'm totally loving #56 but i've been told it looks to middle eastern and i need to appeal to a wide demographic. if you think it would look good can you try that with maybe thin lines?

Hi offbeat.
Thank you for all your hard work on this! I really love your ideas. I have just a couple revisions. I really like the way you did the font in #80. Can you put that in colors #748391 and #484844.
as for the figure i can't decide between #62 and #56. Can you make them both a bit thinner, almost calligraphic like and play around with placement with the text. Thanks so much!
