(Admin code added by Palmer - 174932X)
Alright, I can't wait to get this started. Our church recently adopted a theme for the new year.
One Focus - One Mission
We need this to use on letterheads, banners, flyers, all publicity, etc.
We would like it to be both in color and in black & white formats (color for custom printing, b&w for in house printing.)
We are open to all the creative juices flowing out there and developing something for us that is relevent to all ages, contemporary looking, and appealing to senior adults and younger students.
Thanks in advance for your help. I will check back here often to preview entries and offer feedback.
Big K.

Does it have to be in vector format, or will bitmap suffice...?

Just an initial, simple idea. Let me know if I'm on the right track with this. Cheers.

I am not really sure what a vector format is, but I have used bitmap stuff before. What about getting it in jpeg format?
Explain vector to me and how it can be used, and maybe that is what I need.
Sorry for my ignorance!

In your original post, you said that this logo was to be used on banners. If this is the case, then I'd suggest going with a vector format image. A 1cm x 2cm vector image can be resized to a 1m x 2m image without losing any information whatsoever.
With a bitmap image, the picture is made up of hundreds of pixels. When the image is enlarged, it runs the risk of appearing 'blocky' (or pixelated). jpg is a bitmap image format and are used widely on the web, because the image will only be seen on screen. However, if you use jpg images to print with, they may appear quite low-quality.
Personally, I'm more used to creating bitmap images, but I recently got Illustrator, which creates vector images. I'm a bit of a 'beginner' at illustrator, but I can still create simple logos and things with it. The choice is yours!!
By the way, any feedback on my above entry..?
Cheers.

jonmulk,
Vector sounds great!
Can it be used with publications (ie. letterheads, business cards, etc.)?
I like your design, with the following exception: the cross looks as if it is laying on its side. My Pastor noticed this, and wanted something a little different.
Nfrack,
So far, the staff here like this concert the best. Simple, easy to read. What can we do differently with the "one"? Maybe center it in the shaded area, maybe use the numeral 1, maybe a little larger. maybe vertical? Just some thoughts. ALso, what would it look like being a burgundy color instead of the green?
Thanks. Both of you are one the right track!

Hello Big K thanks for the feedback here is my revised logo design for your contest, also I have both one and the number 1 in the box it might be hard to make out but the right cut out is the number one if that makes any difference. Let me know if you need anything and thanks for your time.

Here's a simple start. Could you tell us more about your church or do you have any other ideas of what you would like to see? :)

Nfrack,
We like it a lot. Very simple and easy to identify with. The second one is a little too red, need more of a maroon color. Also, the staff here sould like to see it in a dark green and a dark blue.
Red Lizard,
We are a church of about 300 active members, evenly divided among ages. We are trying to convey the idea that we need to re-focus our efforts, jointly, to lead us in the coming years. We are emphasizing the missional idea in our church, working towards global and local mission opportunities available to our members.
We are in the middle of a building program (We have the land, the blueprints, and will be voting to break ground next month.) This building program is also an element of the FOCUS aspect.
Your submission does not capture my attention like the others posted. Try something without the cross.

Any others want to give this one a try.
Thanks,
Big Kahuna

...sorry for interrupting, I am not a Team member (yet), but anyway :look:
jonmulk, in your last image, was it some specific idea in placing the 1s in that specific O's eyes? What if you place them in the Os of the words "ONE"? Just a thought...
Also, the cross can be made "full length" if the lower part letters have bigger size, so what if Mission and Focus were bigger size and "downstairs" while ONEs - smaller size and up? And if the "upper store" is extended (or with bigger kerning values) and the "lower" one is condensed, they could even be justified... just another thought.
Sorry, couldn't just sit and stare
You can beat me and laugh at me now ;)

Here are some evaluations on what has been submitted so far:
Nfrack:
You are on the right track with your last design. Everyone here really likes it. Could we see it with the "one" a little larger.
Disturbed:
Your middle graphic (the one with the three circles) has captured the attention of my Pastor. The 3 circles has significance in our church. Please make them darker, and in a burgundy.maroon color.
Red Lizard:
With your second submission, we like the 3rd graphic. Try it with only one word "one" and numeral "1".
Jonmulk:
I really like this. Could you place the numeral "1" in the "O" of the words "one". Also give the cross an outline of some sort. How will this look in color (dark blue or dark green or burgundy)? And how will it look in b/w with an outline?
.......
I will be out of town until Wednesday night. I will check back them, looking any additions, and plan to make a decision by Friday, Nov. 7.
Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Big Kahuna

I dunno, I just thought making the '1' inside the 'O' of "ONE' would have been a bit obvious - I wanted to incorporate the whole 'one' theme into the actual words of 'focus' and 'mission'. (Either way, Big Kahuna wants to see it with the '1' in the 'ONE', so it doesn't really matter now! lol!)
I didn't want to make the cross full length, because then it would stick out a bit and make it look a bit weird and would also make it less versatile, maybe (it probably wouldn't fit on things too good if it had parts sticking out). The cross with equal length parts still has relevance, though, and is easily recognised as a crucifix by us religious type!
I've tried kerning the 'focus' and 'mission' to make them equal lengths, but it looks a bit dodgy with the font I used in my design, so I stuck with the same kerning values for each.

Thanks for all the submissions!
I apologize for not replying earlier, but sometimes the life of a minister and the plans he makes can be changed when certain needs of his church arise. That's where I have been, taking care of some folks . . . and away from my computer.
Anyways, congratulations to jonmulk for his winning logo. I have shared the last logos you submitted (with the 1 in the one), and our staff here loved it.
We would like the green version and the black/white version. One thing we would like to see different is the green color choice - we would really like it to be a darker green (a hunter green).
With this modification, I have one question . . .
What do I do now?
Please let me know what I need to do next!
Thanks everyone! Every logo submitted was well done, and the decision was difficult. But one stood out above the rest (in our eyes anyway).
I look forward to coming back here in the future. It is exciting to see a few simple words or phrases come to life! God bless you all!
