Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?

Notifu

What type of product or service do you offer?

Notifu enables users to...

- Deliver messages to individuals or groups via 8 different delivery methods
- Automatically try alternative methods to deliver messages
- Know who did and did not receive each message
- Optionally gather responses from recipients to make quick decisions

How long have you been in business?

Company in business for 3 years but Notifu is a new service launching soon.

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?

Communicate that Notifu is an easy and powerful messaging solution for individuals, informal groups, and small businesses.

What are your long term goals?

Create a must have messaging solution for individuals, informal groups, and small businesses.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?

9/30/2008

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience

Who would you like to add to your audience?

The service is not yet launched; however, here are the key usage scenarios for Notifu...

Example Usage Scenarios
------------------------
- Message your spouse a list of additional things to pickup from the grocery store via SMS (and see that they received the message)

- Message your friend to pick you up one hour earlier from the airport and attempt to deliver via email, SMS, Y! IM, and voice phone until the message is delivered (and see that they received the message)

- Message your sports team that practice has moved from the North YMCA to the East YMCA on Friday (and see who received the message and who didn't)

- Message your church congregation to see which fund raiser idea is preferred (Garage Sale, Bake Sale, or Quilt Sale) and then see the tabulated votes

- Message your PTO committee to see which date and time the members can next meet (11th @ 6:00p, 12th @ 8:00p, or 13th @ 6:00p) and then see the tabulated votes

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?

Simple logo that re-enforces Notifu being a simple yet powerful messaging solution for individuals, informal groups, and small businesses.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)

Prefer stronger, bolder colors. Avoid pastels.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?

No.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?

- Messaging
- Individuals and/or Informal Groups
- Simple
- Powerful

What is your tagline or slogan?

Power Messaging Made Easy (not stuck on this -- may change)

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?

Simple but powerful messaging for individuals, informal groups, and small businesses.

Where will your new logo be used?

Just website initially.

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?

List competitive URLs if possible

Prefer not to disclose competitors in public forum.

What sets you apart from your competitors?

- Ability to send a single message to recipients via different delivery methods (email, SMS, voice, AIM, Gtalk, ICQ, MSN IM, and Yahoo IM)

- Ability for sender to know who received and who did not receive the message

- Ability for sender to specify possible responses and to then see that tabulated responses from recipients

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:

Simple but powerful messaging for individuals, informal groups, and small businesses.

I can provide access to the alpha release of notifu.com as well but I will not publish access to the alpha release in this public forum.

Thanks for the draft. My initial impression of the top alternative was positive; however, as I studied it more, I'm concerned that the logo looks like we are involved in paper or email message delivery only.

Ideally, the logo could re-enforce that the user can send a single message that gets delivered by any of these means...

- email
- SMS
- voice
- AIM
- Gtalk
- ICQ
- MSN IM
- Yahoo IM

So, as an example, a user might send a message like "Practice has been moved from 6:00p to 7:00p tonight" to a group and the message would get delivered to some via email, some via SMS, some via voice message, some via IM, etc.

BTW, I'm open to two very different approaches for this logo...

1) Using symbols connected with messaging / notifications

2) With the name "Notifu", it might be possible to play off "Notification Kung Fu" to design a logo

I'm a bit nervous with #2 that the result would be too cheesy but I'm open to see some draft logos using this idea. If a logo for #2 turned out really well, I'm open to using "Notification Kung Fu" or as the tag line.

Thank you very much for the feedback. My idea was to represent message and "N" in the same time :)
However, new design coming :)

Hmmm, neither of those are doing it for me. I'd like to see some new concepts from other designers.

Thanks for all the drafts. Unfortunately, none of the above alternatives seem like the right logo for Notifu.

Of all the drafts submitted thus far, I like #21 the best. Good things about #21...

1) I do really like having the "u" in a different color as it visually seems like notifu is "notify you"

2) The beacon like symbol above the "i" is a reasonable metaphor for what Notifu is about

3) I tend to like logos that can be boiled down to a single graphic if needed (like the beacon symbol). Might be useful in case we ever need to design a desktop icon, system tray icon, website favorite icon, etc.

However, I'm not overly crazy about the red / orange color scheme and I'm a bit concerned the beacon symbol looks a bit too generic.

Of the designs listed above, only #21, #26, and #27 would make the cut for final consideration.

The #26 design really pops to me -- I'm not sure if it relates to what we do that well but it is an attractive logo that pops. I'd like to see a couple of things with #26...

1) Can we shade the "u" in Notifu a different shade of gray/black (or color)

2) If I needed to represent Notifu with a single icon (like for a desktop / system tray icon), how would you represent Notifu within a square space (like 64x64 pixels)?

OffbeatDesign

The different color dots represent different forms of messages going from one user to another (or to a group). I'll post some stand alone icon options as well.

Trying to make a final selection after today. Regarding #33, this didn't turn out to be an improvement -- any other way to highlight the "u" differently?

Regarding #34, the stand alone icons don't have the same appeal but I could probably live with the middle alternative of the three stand alone icons.

For this design (#34), can I see the full logo and the middle icon on a dark background as well?

Thanks to everyone that provided logo drafts. As yesterday was the deadline, I've decided to select #26 (OffbeatDesign) as the final logo design and work to with OffbeatDesign to make some final edits.

A key revision is that in the black background version, the gray text looks much too drab. Can I see some alternative colors for the gray text in the black background?

How about just a much lighter gray for the text?

The u coloring is still bugging me. Can we blend #39 and #46 using a purple u at the end but a bit darker purple color (more like the dot of the i)?

Also, in number #46, the rest of the text "notif" still seems too drab -- can you brighten / whiten that a bit more?

Thanks for the iteration. That u just seems distracting in your design even though it seemed to work in other designs. Hopefully the last changes...

1) Let's just go with a same color u

2) Your black background version lost the gradient text. I realize when it is lightened there is less room for a gradient but I was looking for a lightening of the gray text with the gradient vs. changing to solid white.

OffbeatDesign
10-01-2008, 11:52 AM
The gradient is actually there, it's just lighter. Here it is a bit darker

Yep, that looks fine. Can you email me both versions (optimized for light background, optimized for dark background) in Photoshop and as giant PNG files (ideally with transparent actual background) ?
