(Admin code added by Palmer - G601492Y)
Hi ya'll.
I am posting another contest - this time for a t-shirt design for my fledgling website www.mittentoprentals.com.
Here are a few requirements:
1.MAXIMUM ART PRODUCTION DIMENSIONS:
left chest : 4"w x 2.5"h
front or back: 14.5"w x 16"h
Acceptable graphic program formats include files created by Photoshop, Freehand, Quark, PageMaker, CorelDraw and Illustrator
2. The design should be one color to be used either on a white or black shirt.
3. The shirt should be "cool" enough to wear. :)
I really liked the final design chosen for the Research Buzz t-shirt! It's hard to nail down what I liked exactly... but it was probably the bold "to the point" look. I'm not after really cartoony designs.
The t-shirt should just help increase awareness of the MittenTopRentals.com service.
Ideas:
"Use and Promote MittenTopRentals.com"
"Local housing for rent by owner!"
"Local property owners list it - so renters can find it."
"Efficient Landlords and Renters Use and Promote MittenTopRentals.com"
"Don't you wish finding housing was this easy?" (drawing of a snail w/ shell or something cute like that - I would recommend using a cute woodland animal in any design. !!! )
These are just ideas... all of the designs I ever picked were ones that surprised me and weren't what I was thinking in the first place. Okay.. that's all I will write at this point. Have fun!!!!
Oh, don't worry about using my logo.

Contest Prize: $100
Deadline: November 29 or whenever I see the "right" design

Bill,
Thank you for your entry! I'll do a little critique....
I like the sign sticking out of the shell but I hope it isn't too deep! :lol2: ouch! The image is very striking and I love how it isn't too cartoony... very well done. I don't know if the lighter shades will translate well on T's though. I think if this design is chosen the "going fast" might need to change to something else - however I do feel that the "going fast" font is suitable for the image. I think MittenTopRentals.com will need to be bigger... perhaps under the snail? I don't know.
This is just what I'm thinking at this point. I'll look at it again in the morning.
Great job though Bill! Very creative!
-Brandon
P.S.- I'm glad to be back hosting a contest! (Thanks for the kind words Palmer.)
"Going Fast" is the joke on this image. Snails move very slow... and "Going Fast" is a great opposite... The sign is to represent a sign that may be found on a rental property. with the website contact info on it.

Huhhso,
Nice! I like the symmetry and simplicity that you used in the design. Good job... thank you for entering... more comments later.

Endersglory,
Are you a D.O. Design Team Member? I don't see your badge under your name..?
Anyhow, if you aren't personally accepted to the Design Team then the entry isn't valid. :( You might want to read Palmer's rules for entering a contest. Good luck!
Your design is creative (I liked the alternating black and white idea), but not exactly what I'm looking for. Sorry my friend.

Mute Design (and contest participants),
Thank you MuteDesign for your submission to the contest. I like the round and moving flow of the design, but the font may be a little hard to read at the bottom.
Again, the greyish colors used to shade and add detail might be a little tough to recreate effectively on a T-shirt. (If I'm wrong let me know... )
Anyhow, fantastic work! I'm very pleased with what everyone has had to offer in this competition. :o
As I have hinted at in the first post of this competition... Keep it simple, memorable, blunt, and "to the point". I think Huhhso has come probably the closest to this with the design with the window on the turtle shell and the "mittentoprentals.com" at the bottom. This does not mean the Huhhso is the winner... this is far from over.
MINOR POINT
I should also mention that "mittentoprentals.com" should be written in a way that will seperate MittenTop from Rentals just a little... perhaps a half space so people can remember the name a little easier. The M, T, and R in "MittenTop Rentals.com" should be in caps as well.
Good luck all! ;)

Alex,
Nice design. Thanks for entering the contest! ;)
The wording might have to change a little but that's not a problem. Nice concept. One thing that I noticed is that the rock behind the animal digging the hole looks a little like a head!
Okay everyone... I'll try and post more messages to add advice and steer everyone in the right direction.

Well... it wasn't supposed to be a rock but a pile of removed earth... :) I guess, I'll have to make the supposition more pronounced :)

Maybe he's digging in a graveyard :o[/b][/quote]
No, Palmer. He's digging a hole to hide the head, for he is, in fact, the real monster of Sleepy Hollow. Forget about headless horsmen and all that Washington Irving cr@p, it was just a giant groundhog preparing goods for winter.
welcome back, Brandon :)
I'll have something for you before your deadline.

It's been sorta quiet lately, but that's okay since I've been busy. I think Huhhso is definately coming up as the most accurate as far as what I'm trying to convey. Simple. Easy. To the point. The snails are very good... excellent really, but I think the details are gonna get lost on a t-shirt. Those shades of grey will be tough to translate I think.
Alex - I like your design in certain aspects ... as I said before, the text will need to change a little (I'm not worried about that), but I think there would be more impact if the groundhog was sort of facing us directly on. Right now it's kind of a side view.
Okay... that might be a little better direction. Have fun everybody.... we have a little over two weeks left!

Hi ya'll,
It's been a little quiet around here  so instead of talking to myself I thought I would post a message. :lol2: Great work on this contest so far... I'm lookin' forward to your entry Raja (if you get time). If anyone else is planning on making an entry p.m. me as we close in on the 29th.... I might end this contest early but I'll wait if I know someone needs the time.

Has anyone seen "Party Monster"? I recently read the book but I really want to see the film. Interesting characters to say the least. :D

Thanks :)

Yes anything relating to the contest has to be dicussed in this thread, its only fair on other designers.

What's the PM for then 2square? Chocolate only asked if he/she could enter... nothing more. I know that we can't discuss other stuff but I didn't think asking people to PM me if they are going to enter was outside the lines.... :o
-B
I'm grumpy today... :rip:
Michael
11-26-2003, 07:49 AM
Ok fair enough but then again if it had been kept in the thread others might have come fwd to express their participation...but I hold my hands up and say I didn't read all of the thread so missed the part you asked to be PM'ed
mittentopbranden
11-26-2003, 08:26 PM
2square.. yeah, I suppose others might have come forward to enter if they noticed others were saying they would enter... (no worries 2square...)
annia.... it's a little abstract to me. I have to focus to see the creature in the image. I tend to see an ear, black eyes and a frown though... it's kind of like the abstract head I was seeing in Alex's 1st post.
Current or Future Participants ....
if used, a turtle or snail shell should be obvious enough that people will understand that the site is for housing. If the "housing" part of the image is missed then people will be confused. although the shell idea has been popular in this thread I think that other ways to create that housing idea could be made too.... like I say, keep is simple!
We have like 2 days left.... good luck.
