Project Summary:

We are looking for a new logo that is classic and also modern at the same time. Check out our work at www.spgx.com (http://www.spgx.com) to get a feel for our style.

What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Kristi Sheriff Photography

What type of product or service do you offer?
Wedding, portrait photography

How long have you been in business?
7 years

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
More brand identity, stronger presence in people’s minds. Look high-end, classic

What are your long term goals?
Expand high-end clientele, become unique presence in the community that is easily identifiable

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
December 10th

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Fashion-conscious, financially secure women who appreciate quality i.e. women who always have a stylish handbag.

Who would you like to add to your audience?
Expand our audience. We want to target more portraiture as we already have a good wedding clientele. We especially want to be more attractive to high school seniors.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
Classic, unique. We want a symbol that can be used separately and also with the logo. Please look at our work to see if it will fit. Maybe a bit organic/modern mix.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
Brown, all others open to suggestion. Brown is earthy and we do a lot of outdoor portraiture.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
We like stars, be we don’t want just a plain old star – get creative!

Communication Strategy:

Modern but classic and sophisticated

Where will your new logo be used?
Business cards, marketing pieces, pricing lists, website, packaging, signs, etc. We need full rights to the logo.

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
Most of our competitors just have their names written out in cursive handwriting. We DON’T want this. We want to be different.

List competitive URLs if possible

What sets you apart from your competitors?

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Our portraiture makes ordinary people extraordinary

Thanks everyone, good luck!

Glyphica,

Your first design is my favorite. I like the way the text looks very classic in both of these examples and I like that you are getting creative with the stars.

I would like to see more different and creative things with the stars. In the second one I don't feel that the height of the s of stars fits with the text as well. But, I like that the stars are creating an s shape.

kristisheriff

Pracus,

Thank you for getting girly with the star. I don't feel that the harsh points of the star work with the swirlies above it very well though. Is there a way to make a star more swirly like too?

I would also prefer my name to be more like Glyphica has shown.

Deanna,

Thank you for submitting. I think your design is a little too busy for my taste. Maybe with simplification I might like it a lot better. I like how the star is a star...but a unique star.

Offbeat,

I like the simplicity and cleanness of the logo. What if the star was a little more unique within the colors as in not a regular star but a star that was unique to us?

I like the concept...however, I don't care for the edge of the square as it's a little too busy for my taste.

I definitely like the classic name though...Keep up the good work everyone.

glyphica,

that is better than the other one with the s. However, I feel like it's just cut in half with the placement of the s star. Is there a way to change this? Also, I like the idea of the the multiple stars but they seem to just be floating. Is there a way to make the shape more solid feeling?

kristisheriff
12-02-2008, 02:49 PM
nutscreative,

Thank you for submitting. I like the brush style star better than the one below with just my name typed with the stars everywhere. However, I don't feel that either of these have the right feel for what I am going for. They seem a little to manly to me.

I want everyone to "think outside of the star" I guess. How could I get a star as part of my logo without just a star shape. What can create a star shape? Does it have to be a pointy star? Not necessarily. I want it to feel feminine and classic. Offbeat and Glyphica have come closest so far with the feel I am going for.

Everyone,

I am also open to using my name and a cool signature if we don't come up with a great way to use a star. I just cannot come up with an artistic signature for my name...

In no way do I want to change directions as far as classic and timeless though.

I am liking this one a little bit more than the others. What about not in reverse? I don't know if there is a way to marry this with the stars in some of Glyphica's other ones.

I would like to see the name more classic with a serif font I believe....And, I would like the signature a little more abstract.

Take a look at the following photographer's signatures to see what I mean. I still like the idea of a star in there somewhere...think more dainty on the star I guess...not as large or not just a basic star shape but something unique for us that resembles a star. Or even something that incorporates the star into the signature or something.

Deanna,

I would like to see the Kristi even a little more abstract and only one star in there.

Or what about a whole signature Kristi Sheriff - think very abstract - I don't need to see all of the letters and have them all readable...very artistic with a star over the i in Sheriff?

Everyone,

I think we are going in a great direction with this. Thank you to all who are working on this.

I am liking the following aspects of each of the following but would like a few changes as noted:

I like the signature on post #48 but would like to see it not quite so thin and to incorporate a star somehow at the end of Kristi somewhere. I also like having the Kristi Sheriff Photography text like in 33 and 34.

In 33 I like this one a lot. I am not totally sold on the k or the s though. I would like to see tweaks of this in some form from anyone who wants to try.

#34 I love the k on this one as it feels very artistic. Is there a way to incorporate a star at the end and not have the stroke at the end so grungy looking...more elegant looking I guess?

Thanks everyone!

I look forward to seeing what is coming.

Taldo and Glyphica,

I like what you guys are coming up with...However, I just feel like they need some tweaks or refinements.

Glyphica...I like #33 and #34 still the best. The things that I think need tweaked are just refinement of the lowercase k. But probably in that same style if that makes sense.

Taldo,
I like what you have as far as the k and the s. Is there a way to make the line on the left of the K not so straight? I really like the shape and overall feel of glyphica's k's in how they lead into the k and how it makes the logo overall a rectangular shape. And, I like how your letters have a trail off...Is that a calligraphic brush or something? Whatever it is...I like it. Also, what if we move the KS so it's not cutting my name in the middle?

Thanks you guys!

Anyone else who would like to submit...feel free. I hope I am being clear in what I like. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.

I also really like the way you draw a K. Is there a way to make the rest of the signature a little more abstract and everything slightly thicker. I also liked your star...but maybe a bit smaller. Also, can I see what you do in the colors closer to Glyphica and Taldo's samples?

Project Update: The project deadline has been extended to Dec 20th.

kristisheriff
12-08-2008, 11:40 AM
xpressions,

I like the star you put in the logo. Is there a way to change the k and the s to be more flowy and then incorporate the star? When I say flowy I guess I mean how there is a lead in to the k and the line of the k that is supposed to go straight up and down isn't exactly straight up and down...more at an angle. And then the end of the s doesn't go into a smiley face type of curve but more of a lead out like in post #33 and #34?

Thanks,
Kristi

I would also like to see the circle in the middle of the star a lot smaller.

Thanks,
Kristi

kristisheriff

Paula,

I like how you got a little more abstract with the name but it is still readable but now it looks like Krista. I don't even need to see all of the letters. Maybe most of Kristi and can I see what your S's look like too?

I would also like the "signature with the star" to be smaller in comparison to what you have now.

Also, the color of the brown has a little too much green in it. Can you make it a little more brown?

Thanks,
Kristi

Taldo,

Wow, that has the exact feel I am going for. I just think the star needs to be tweaked in there somehow? What if it was more of a burst like xpressions did? Or, a smaller star shape so you can see it more.

Also, can we still make the k lead in at a little more of an angle?

kristisheriff

graphxguy,

Thank you for submitting. I like the angle where it is angling forward more since that is associated with being positive.

I would like to see it more flowy and abstract still though.

I would like everyone to get away from a regular star. Think about how we can use a star that is not a star. For instance...a burst is associated with a star. It doesn't have to have pointy ends either? Or...it could even be made out of dots or something to create a star without just putting in a star. Or...even a handdrawn one so it feels more fluid like the rest of the design.

Thanks!

kristisheriff
12-09-2008, 10:07 AM

Thank you for submitting. I would like to see what you come up with in a "signature" with a star somewhere? Once again...the star doesn't have to be a 5 star with points.

Paula,

It is a lot closer. I would like to see the whole Kristi and the star a lot smaller so it's not so overpowering of the name. I would also like to see the spacing on the name closer to how Glyphica and Taldo have their spacing done. But, this one is definitely a design I like a lot.

kristisheriff

Deanna,

That is close to what I am liking, but the "signature" is still lacking some sort of refinement. It feels more choppy to me versus sophisticated like Taldo's version.

I want the logo to feel very sleek, artistic and smooth. I do really like making the I in sheriff smaller (or even lowercase) with a star dotting the I. This is actually an idea I had come up with on my own...however, I cannot make a logo so I couldn't seem to make it work.

Kristi

kristisheriff
12-10-2008, 10:44 AM
Paula,

I like the Kristi with the star better. It still does look a little like Krista. What about a signature that is more abstract where you could read the K and maybe the t so there is a place for the star to be?

If you refer back to the websites www.mikecolon.com and www.parkerjphoto.com you will notice they don't use their whole name but a very artistic representation of some of the letters in their name.

I really like how you "sign" my name though.

kristisheriff
12-10-2008, 10:48 AM
xpressions,

I like the star a little better but it still feels like the center is so much heavier than the bursts. Is there a way to equalize those a little?

Also, the signature is not my favorite since the k is straight up and down. I would like the signature to sort of lead in at an angle. And maybe have different ends sort of like a trail off?

I think I also like the signature to be above the other text if that helps.

Thanks,
Kristi

kristisheriff
12-10-2008, 10:57 AM
Taldo,

I would love to see a few minor changes on the logo you last did for me if that's okay. I just want to be able to see that last point of the star a little more defined within its space and maybe make the loop of the s a little more away from the line of the k so that it doesn't look so much like a b too.

If you can make the k lead in more at angle that might be cool too...but after looking at it over and over, I don't necessarily think it needs that. And, I do like the star shape you used. You probably already know this since you're the designer...but the burst probably wouldn't look good in your design :)

A note to everyone,

I would like my "signature" to be very artistic and abstract. It could be the whole Kristi but I don't want to be able to read K R I S T I (meaning every letter). I want it to be very abstract and artistic with the main emphasis on sophisticated.

Or, it could be a K and an S or even just a K.

I would like a star in there somewhere.

The stars I like the most are in the following posts:
#1, #23, #33, #58, #63, #77, #83

The signature needs to feel very sophisticated like in posts #33, #34, #51, #58, #63, & #77.

I think what I like most about these signatures are the brushes used and the flowiness of them. Yet, they are still simple and very effective.

Some ideas would be to use the star to dot the i in sheriff. I want the signature to have a lead in and a lead out. Use calligraphy brushes instead of using a brush that has the same thickness when it starts and when it stops.

We need to be able to use the "signature" or ks or k or k with a star or ks with a star separately as a watermark for photos and as a signature on prints.

Carol,

I am wondering what it would look like with Bodoni as the KRISTI SHERIFF since that's what we use in everything around here already. But, I also want your opinion whether or not you think it will work. The capital R's are more curved at the bottom.

And, I am wondering if there is a sans serif font with a touch more character?

Other than that...just some different font selections and then I think we are good.
