Hi all,

Just like my logo competition (http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17903) this is going to be a little different!

What I am after is TWO templates for TWO sites which will need to be very similar.

1) Piledriver Online
2) Fighting Females

The reason why I've done this as one competition is because I would like to have similar templates for both...showing an obvious connection.

If you could just submit one entry, either Piledriver Online or Fighting Females and if I like one then you can attempt the other. Basically both sites should use the same template but the only differences being a different logo, colours (to match logo) and maybe different images...but the same template.

Company Details

1a) Name of Company:

* Piledriver Online
* Fighting Females

1b) Company Tag Line or slogan:

* Piledriver Online
News, Views & Interviews

* Fighting Females
Giving Women's Wrestling the coverage it deserves

1c) Do you have a company logo?

Yes. Logo files can be found here (http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18034).

I have also included an other folder with logos to other sites that you may want to use.

1d) Do you have a corporate visual identity (a customized (non stock) logo and color scheme carried out throughout your office, stationery, business cards, etc.)?

The logo has just been made, I would like the templates to be built around the logo.

1e) What is the nature of your business?: Briefly describe your products or services:

* Piledriver Online

Offers an online magazine (PDF document) that covers the pro wrestling scene from all over especially the UK and the USA. Not just the big companies like WWE or TNA, also the small independent ones running locally. Includes news, articles, interviews etc

* Fighting Females

Offers an online magazine (PDF document) that covers the world of women in pro wrestling from all over especially the UK and the USA. Not just the big companies like WWE or TNA, also the small independent ones running locally. Includes news, articles, interviews etc

1f) Who is your target market? Who are you hoping to reach with your site?

Pro wrestling fans interested in reading the latest news and analysis. Generally it will be mainly male aged between 13-25.

Website Details

1b) Do you have an existing website? If so, what is the URL?

There is only one site (http://tinyurl.com/5ocg8q) that covers both at the moment.

2b) IMPORTANT: Please list at least 3 URLs (web addresses) of high quality sites that you like the look of (these do not have to be sites who’s business is similar to yours. It aids us in determining what your design style is.) Please consider layout, colors, navigation, graphics, and typography.

1) W101 (http://tinyurl.com/3xo6bs) - A site I had designed here also. I think its very simple but looks professional. I like the headers especially with the use of the wrestling ring.
2) FSM (http://tinyurl.com/6rtx4p) - It advertises the magazine which I would need, although I would like something more prominent. I would also the need to show the latest news/articles...again something that stands out abit more.
3) 1pw (http://tinyurl.com/6povs9) - Simple, covers alot on the mainpage but looks good too.

3b) What colors or color schemes would you like?

I would like the content area to have a white background. I do not really have anything particular in mind.

4b) List the Navigation links for your Site:

Main links:

Home
Issues
News
Columns

Other:

About
Contact
FAQ
Links
Write for Us

5b) What type of look are you trying to achieve? (e.g. clean, high-tech, conservative, warm, flashy, etc.)

Clean, professional with some added edge.

Mainpage - Pretty much similar as the current site. HOWEVER I would like:

- a prominent link to each other (so Fighting Females will have a link to Piledriver...and on Piledriver the link will be for Fighting Females)

- a link to a partner site - Wrestling 101 (logo files included so you could use that to make a link/banner)

NEW: Something that is not included in the current site, I'm looking to include an area displaying the latest 10 forum topics from another partner site (talk wrestling online - logo file included).

Sub-page - The sub page needs to contain a content area AND the links to the latest top 10 forum topics.

Basically the same as the mainpage without the general intro stuff!

7b) Do you have any images for use in the design of your site? If not, do you have images, can you offer suggestions of what you type of imagery you feel would be most suitable for your website:

I do not have any images to use but I would prefer generic stuff like wrestling rings, wrestling belts, crowds etc

Deadlines and Deliverables

1c) What is the deadline for your template design?

7th December 2008

2c) Will you require HTML coding?

Yes. PSDs also (incase I need to make future changes)

3c) If so, will you require it to be ONLY CSS layout?

No.

4c) How many pages coded will you require delivered?

4:

1) Mainpage for Piledriver
2) Content page for Piledriver

3) Mainpage for Fighting Females
4) content page for Fighting Females

As I said it should be pretty much the same template with slight changes.

Hello,

Here is my initial concept.

Hi Kogar...that is a good start.

- I don't like the background for the top navigation links..could you try something else...maybe just in one colour? I don't mind you using blue it's just I find that not clear as I would like.

- The header image looks great however my only concern would be that the images are no doubt copyrighted by WWE. I love the way you have it coming out at you. I'm going to see if I can try and find some images that I can use but I'm not sure how successful I'll be. If you could try something more generic like wrestling rings..crowds etc...although I guess they will not have the same impact as this.

- Could you move the box with the latest edition to the left where the latest forum activity box is.

- Under that general text could you add a 'Latest' section which will show the latest 5 news and articles (I forgot to mention that in my first post!). Then add the latest forum topics box under that.

-The Wrestling 101 link should not go with the latest forum topics box since the forum topics come from Talk Wrestling Online (logo was attached also).

-I'm not too sure on how you have the Wrestling 101 and Fighting Females link - could you try something different.

I know this sounds rather negative but I do like it...just needs some tweaking I think.

Thanks

Hi.

The comments weren't negative at all. I tried to fulfil all your requests in my revision.

About the header, I highly doubt they are WWE copyrights, I nicked them from various fan sites. But if you don't feel secure about them, we can try and look around.

I am a WWE fanatic myself, so I keep an eye for such stuff =)

Hi,

- Could you try a darker blue for the navigation background please?

- I'm not sure if there is too much white space at the top now. I can't decide if it is better having the Fighting Females link in the top right or where you have put it.

- Could you make that right section smaller - as the content will be posted to the left...and I want to keep that bigger. Could you make the image with the link to the magazine into more of a magazine cover shape...it does not need to be as wide.

- Under 'Steve Ashfield'...could you put 'Latest' and then have 5 article titles show with abit of description for each...just for example:

TITLE 1

Text here Text here Text here Text here Text here
Text here Text here Text here Text here Text here
Text here Text here Text here Text here Text here

TITLE 2

Text here Text here Text here Text here Text here
Text here Text here Text here Text here Text here
Text here Text here Text here Text here Text here

TITLE 3

Text here Text here Text here Text here Text here
Text here Text here Text here Text here Text here
Text here Text here Text here Text here Text here

TITLE 4

Text here Text here Text here Text here Text here
Text here Text here Text here Text here Text here
Text here Text here Text here Text here Text here

TITLE 5

Text here Text here Text here Text here Text here
Text here Text here Text here Text here Text here
Text here Text here Text here Text here Text here

Then under that you should have the box with the latest forum threads. Also if possible could you make that Talk Wrestling Online logo in a speech bubble like you have the Fighting Females one please.

Hi,

Here is a revision.

Will be awaiting feedback.

Hi,

It's looking better.

- I like what you did with the Fighting Females link but I think it takes too much away from the logo. Could you try moving that above the magazine cover bit?

- Could you have something like a 'Latest Issue' title above the magazine cover?

- I don't like the orange link colour, could you try something different?

Thanks

I'm showing the design to the editor and will let you know his feedback.

Kamran

He likes it but is concerned with the images like I was. He has some images we can use...plus I've contacted a photographer who should be able to supply some more.

Once I have a few I'll put a folder up along with the logo files and you can pick which ones will work best.

Sorry about this but at least this way we will not have any issues with the images.

I might not be able to get back to you until next week...depends when the photographer sends me the images.

Hope you understand.

Kogar

Not a problem at all and I agree it's better to be safe than sorry. It'll be great if you can provide your own images.

I just want to ask one thing if I may... I know I'm the only one who entered but have you selected my design? Just following formalities =)

Kamran

We are both happy with the template...just need to get the header sorted once I have some images. What I will do is put up a zip folder alongside the logo files and if any other designers want to enter they can.

It's just a matter of waiting for the photographer to get back to me!

Thanks

I've just now emailed Palmer links to zip folders (Pildriver and FightingFemales) with some images we can use. I've asked if he could link them in the same thread as the logos here (http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18034). I just picked out a few for each. If you could use a mix of UK/USA that would be good. Both folders have a few TNA one which should cover the USA.

Hi Kamran.

Here is a revision based on the images you provided.

Hi,

I like it, just a few suggestions:

- Could you take out Mickie James (next to Fighting Females link)

- I'm not too sure about the green background in the header now - it worked with the previous images, not so sure with these...would be able to try something different?

Thanks

Kogar

How about this?

Kamran
12-21-2008, 10:47 PM
Hi,

Looks better.

- Just to the right of the feet of the wrestler slamming the other one...there is abit of grey...could you remove that?

- In the original you had a faint view of an image in the green background...could you try something similar with the blue with one of the images I can gave you?

Thanks

Revision.

Kamran
12-22-2008, 10:11 AM
It's getting there.

- Could you try adding another pic in the background too - just to fill up more of that background space?

- I just noticed you have 'FAQS' as one of the main links at the top, it should be 'FAQ'.

Thanks

I still have not heard anything, with it being Christmas tomorrow I don't expect a reply until next week now. Sorry!

Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year! :)

No problem. Keep me posted.

Happy Holidays to you too!

Kamran

I still haven't heard back...it might not be until next monday with New Year coming up.

I'm not sure if you want to make a start on the FF template or wait for the feedback for this. I imagine if there are any issues it will be with the header as he has seen the previous draft.

If you do decide to begin work on Fighting Females:

- Replace logo

- Change colours to match logo

- Change header

- Change Link from Fighting Females to 'Piledriver-Online'

Everything else will be the same.

Sorry about the delay.

Thanks

Kogar

I'll carry out the changes as soon as I get a chance.

Quick question though, have you picked me or still waiting for other designer options?

Kamran
12-30-2008, 10:39 PM
I'm happy with the designs but the editor has the final say so there could be some changes to come if he isn't happy with anything.

However I'm happy to pick you as the designer.

Kamran
12-31-2008, 07:38 AM
I just heard back from him and he is happy with that last draft you did for PD.

If you could do a content page which will be exactly as it is but you will have the content (articles) instead of that general introduction area...under that you will still have the "latest" area but that should be just the titles. Under that the 'Latest Forum Threads'.

So it is pretty much the same thing :)

Here are template mockups for:

PileDriver Sub Page

Fighting Females Main Page

Fighting Females Sub Page

Hi,

PD Content Page

Looks good.

FF Main page

- It should be 'FAQ' not 'FAQS'.

- For the header could you try and edit out the background crowd bit inbetween those two ladies? So it's just the red background (like you did with the PD UK images). Also could you try replacing that single lady faded image with a faded one of the small pic?

FF Content Page

- Same as above

Its going well, good job!

Hi,

- Could you take out that single lady image..I just wanted the other faded one. But with that one could you make it so you can see more of the image...so the other lady she is on top of?

- There is still a tiny big of the crowd background left in the other one - inbetween their arms, could you try replacing that with the red background?

- I just noticed you have 'Fighting Females Online Columns' it should be 'Fighting Females Columns'

Thanks

01-02-2009, 09:45 AM
Hi,

They look great..I'm just going to show them to the editor...I don't think I'll get a reply until Monday evening.

One more thing...I'm not sure how difficult this will be - On the Piledriver template would it be possible to see what it would look like without the crowd area between the big sting/samoa joe image? Just have it as a blue background? I'm not sure if I will like it but I keep thinking it may look better. Sorry about all the tweaks I just want to make sure it's 100% right.

Thanks

Kogar
01-02-2009, 11:41 AM
Here they are.

Kamran
01-02-2009, 12:33 PM
Yeah, I think I prefer this latest one.

One more (and hopefully final) thing:

PD

- Instead of 'Check Out The Latest Issue' could you just have 'Latest Issue' but in PD colours.

FF

- There are parts around the middle image (in the header) where the black border does not seem as neat..its more noticeable than other parts. Would there be a way to try and make it less obvious? If not, maybe try fading the image?

- Could you change the tagline from 'UK's No #1..." to "Giving Women's Wrestling The Coverage It Deserves" - Please keep it same font/style as it is though.

- Instead of 'Check Out The Latest Issue' could you just have 'Latest Issue'.

As I said I don't think I'll hear the feedback from the editor on Monday but I'm hoping we are just about finished.

Thanks

Kogar

Sure... those are minimal changes, I'll make them before delievering the final product.

I'll wait till Monday if you have any other changes.

Kamran

I've edited in some more in my reply above with his feedback.

Thanks

I believe I fixed what you were referring to, let me know otherwise.

Kamran
01-06-2009, 01:09 PM
Hi,

- The middle image (girls in black/pink and white/pink) still looks the same...the black border around it just seems to stand out more than any of the other images you used it on (pd template). If there isn't a way to make it less noticeable could you try it in a faded version?

- Could you try spacing the tagline like:

GIVING WOMEN'S
WRESTLING THE
COVERAGE IT DESERVES

"Latest Issue" on the PD templates
- This should be in the two colours used in the PD logo

"Latest Issue" on the FF templates
- This should be in the two colours used in the FF logo

Thanks

Revisions attached.

Kamran
01-07-2009, 01:31 PM
That's MUCH better on that middle image!

Only thing now is I'm still not happy with the tagline. Could you make the text maybe smaller (all same size) and see how that looks? I don't like the way it goes over the image so much. If you could just play around with it just to make it fit as nicely as the PD one looks. I know the problem here is that the tagline is just so much longer.

Thanks

Kogar
01-07-2009, 06:31 PM
Try this.

Kamran
01-07-2009, 11:08 PM
I would keep the tagline all in white.

I think thats it!

If you could start the coding phase now...just remember:

"Latest Issue" on the PD templates
- This should be in the two colours used in the PD logo

Thanks!

I'll start coding it up and PM you once it's done.
