FYI - The designer that wins this logo will most likly be asked to do an ad, a banner, and possibly a whole concept for the signage on the exterior of my store. which will all be paid seperatly... In case you needed more incentive to submit your ideas.
Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo? Modish Maternity
What type of product or service do you offer? Brick & Mortar maternity & nursing boutique
How long have you been in business? 2 weeks
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity? Attract pregnant and nursing women to our boutique, I would like it to reflect the feel of my store (I'll send pictures)
What are your long term goals? To manufacture my own line under the Modish label. Expand to multiple stores in San Diego. Start an eCommerce website. For every pregnant women to shop with me first.
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer? ASAP, December 15th ish
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience. Pregnant and nursing women that live in La Jolla.
Who would you like to add to your audience? Pregnant and nursing women from all of San Diego
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like? I would like for you to use your creativity. I'll attach logo's that I like.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?) Any or all of the following; pale tiffany box blue, fuscha, chocolate brown, golden yellow, white. These are the colors we have used in the boutique. Feel free to use other colors as well if they are complimentary.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo? Nothing specific, I don't know if I necessarily want a pregnant belly incorporated because I may want to expand the Modish brand to Baby's. I like swirls. I like peacocks. But most of all I want this to be FUN & FUNKY
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business? Fun, Funky, Trendy, Stylish, Modern, Modish, in Vogue, etc... Not stiff but not childish either.
What is your tagline or slogan? Expecting the Unexpected
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience? You don't have to loose your style now that you are pregnant.
Where will your new logo be used? Exterior store sign 27.5/sf, Hang Tags, in my advertising...
Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos? A Pea in the Pod, Motherhood, Glow Maternity, Nest Maternity. Nothing stands out to me about their logos. Glow has one that is creative but I wouldn't like it as mine. They utilize a pregnant women as the letter "L" in Glow.
List competitive URLs if possible I have none, they are local and they don't have websites.
What sets you apart from your competitors? Everything. The selection, quality & price of my products. But above all my customer service, we offer personal shopping, complimentary alterations and we'll bend over backwards for our customers...
Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company: The Best

I've attached the following...
Store Collage = Images of the inside of my store.
Logo Collage = Logo's I Like. I particularly like Chiarakruza, but I love them all.
Elements Collage = Element that are appealing to me.
I hope this works

I forgot to mention... I would prefer to have this designed in Photoshop or something compatible with Photoshop and I would like the layers seperate. Also I would need all the source files used and the font type so I can download it into my computer and use the font type for signs around my store.
Thanks again,
Tammy

Hi LutFi - Thanks for your ideas, they are very nice. However, I'm looking for something more bold and colorful. This was my fault but I should have made it clearer that would like to utilize the a bright fuscha pink in there somewhere. You can see the pink I'm talking about in the pictures of the store. Do you have any more ideas?

Hi LutFi - I love the layout of version 4, and I love the vibrant colors of version 5. Do you think you can add some more color to version 4 and maybe make the Modish Maternity text bigger?

Hi Glyphica -
I like your version 1, could you show it to me with brown instead of black? Maybe make the Modish Maternity a bit bigger if possible. I like the intensity of the pink but it may be just a tad bit too purple...
Version 2 reminds me of a mustache. Not a huge fan of the mustache...
Do you have other ideas?
Thank you!

Hi -
LutFi - I love the color in the feathers of version 6. Could you show me the body of the peacock in the darker blue and the "Modish" back to the pink?
Glyphica - Version 3, the pink color is perfect and I like the brown better. I see the "M" now in version 2... I'm curious to see what else you have in mind... :)
I appreciate everything you guys are doing!
Thanks,
Tammy

Hi Missy/Tini1 - I hope your holiday was fun.
I love your idea in Version 1, and your use of colors is perfect...
We are on the corner of Torry Pines and Girard in La Jolla (Does that bring you back to SD or what?). I have 29,000 cars that drive by here a day at about 25-35 mph. So I think I need something that will tell them what we are in a few seconds...
So I'm wondering if you can do something that has a bigger emphasis on Modish Maternity. :D

LutFi - Version 8 looks awesome too.
We still have quite a bit of time so I would like to see other comps from other designers before I make a final decision. And of corse if you have more ideas I would love to see them as well.
Thanks,

Tini1/Missy - Of the two, I liked version 1 better... Do you want to take a shot at incorporating a full body silhouette of a "modish" pregnant women? I know I said I may not want one but I've been thinking it over and the idea should be seriously considered...
Everyone Else - Do you want to take a shot at incorporating a full body silhouette of a modish pregnant women into this logo as well??? We still have about 2 weeks left...

Shnickerdoodle - Version 1, I LOVE it!!! Could I see it with the "maternity" under the "Modish" line up with "Modish"? I want to let you know that this is exactly what I'm looking for... If you saw my last post, I'm also entertaining the idea of using a shilhouett of a pregnant women as well.

Wow - You've been busy... Sorry for the delay in response, I didn't expect so much so fast so I hadn't checked the post in a few hours. I hope I cover all of them, here goes.
Tini1/Missy -
Version 3 - A little flat, I'm not in love with it
Version 4 - I like the modish Maternity font and the peacock, can you take out the embellishment and have the bird somehow sitting ont the "Maternity"
Version 5 - I'm not feeling it
Version 6 - I like the additions to the lady, she's more defined... looks more pregnant than fat in this one. Her butt is a bit high, she must do lots of squats!!! Can you tame down her rear end?
Shnickerdoodle -
Version 4 - I really like the contrast of the blue background with the pink "Maternity"
Version 5 - I like the embellishment on the right but I don't really like the shadow in the text of Modish.
Version 6 - I like this version of the pregnant lady the best... I would prefer if it were a full length body, including legs, can you do something like that? And the hand is odd.

Hi Deanna - I thought about Version 3 quite a bit last night... I'm wondering if you can do something a little less busy with the feathers at the top? I think my eye is drawn to the swirls for feathers a bit more than I would like.
Hi Missy - I love version 8. Thanks for the revision.

Thanks to everyone for their submissions, I loved many of them and I coudn't decide so I took a pole of everyone that walked through my store, and the winner is...
Deanna - Version 7, I'm going with this for my logo... I'm using it for my sign on the front of my building and I'm wondering if you can play with the color combinations for me? I would like it to be a wooden sign and the logo is going to be mounted on the sign and I don't want the background of the sign to be white so can you play with the background color for me... The background will also need to follow the shape of the logo. Maybe you can try out the golden yellow in there too? I like the simplicity of the font however I don't necessarily like the "i" in Modish. I do like the "M" in maternity because the M goes straight up instead of at an angle. Could you show me another option for the font as well?
Kind Regards,
Tammy

Hi Deanna - I found the font I want to use on dafont.com, it's called cicle (not circle). It's very similar to your original font. I would like to see the sign with colored backgrounds, it's doesn't necessarily have to be wood. I meant a front lit sign as opposed to a plastic back lit sign, sorry for the confusion. So can you play with the different color backgrounds. I think the wood draws away from how cool the logo is. I still want it colorful and vibrant... I like the gold the LutFi used (PMS 130 U) if you don't mind trying to incorporate that color. I also like the dark brown you originally used for the peacock. I really like how you outilined the sign, that's exactly the shape I was looking for.
Thanks,
Tammy

Hi Deanna - My favorite is 10c (the green background) and 10d (the blue background). Could you try one with the pink background? I love the blue background but I'm afraid it may be a bit difficult to read. I love the green background however green was not in my color scheme but I still am considering it for the sign. Have you seen childishclothing.com? Very similar to what's going on here. I just looked them up this afternoon...

tlayson
12-07-2008, 03:32 PM
OK, the pink is not doing it for me... How about sticking with the blue background and do something to make the font more noticible? Could you also try variation of the blue too, I love the color blue but maybe if you could come up with a lighter version??? I don't know if that is possible...
shnickerdoodle studios
12-07-2008, 03:48 PM
I agree... I like the blue a lot better. Here are some revisions for you. The blue I thought would work best to make it stand out is the top right version *note thought that this image is an RGB image and not a pantone image*
Thanks,
Deanna
tlayson
12-07-2008, 03:58 PM
I'm drawn to the first and last one. Which one do you like better between these two? I see what you are saying about the second one but the blue is a bit flourecent for me... Tough decision.
tlayson
12-07-2008, 04:04 PM
what is the difference between rgb and pantone?
shnickerdoodle studios
12-07-2008, 04:15 PM
RGB has a bigger color gamut than pantone or cmyk but it is a higher cost to pring because it is not specifically 2,3,4 color printing...it has many colors to print i.e. higher costs.
I think I prefer the last one with the word photography in pink; but ultimately it is your decision.. (and yes it does look flourecent, lol)
Deanna

Top left is my favorite one but the bottom right is the best for readability of Modish Maternity. Can you do a couple of more blues that are lighter like the bottom right for me to see? Thanks again... Tammy
