Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
inBloom Photography or inbloom Photography
inBloom Photography
Life+Style Portraiture
What type of product or service do you offer?
Portrait Photography for newborns - kids
Wedding Photography
How long have you been in business?
5 Years
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
To have a recognizable logo element to use on marketing info/website
What are your long term goals?
To have my business known in my community
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
Sunday, January 26th
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Women
Parents - who are a little modern/fun and looking for something a little different than traditional family portraits
Brides - slightly non-traditional (as I don't do church weddings, only outdoor ceremonies)
Who would you like to add to your audience?
More of the same, I want to weed out those looking for a traditional look
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
I would like my logo to have a design element along with my business name that can stand alone as a "symbol" for my biz. I would possibly like an element that I might change very slightly (IE: by changing color, adding or removing something, changing font, etc.) when representing either the kids portrait or the wedding side of my business. I am located in Bloomington, Indiana... that's the relevance of the business name.
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
I am open to colors, but am currently using bright colors: lime green, pink, orange sherbert, yellow, tourquise... something similar. This is because I prefer a white base on my website and promotional materials rather than black.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
I am cool with going with the "bloom" idea and using a flower/tree/vine... anything that blooms. I am ok with it looking "cute" but in a modern way... I want it to be fun and pretty... but not childish or cartoonish. No roses, please. I am open to anything that blooms and have been drawn to the idea of a tree.
EDITED: I want to stick to a flower, a basic/bold/modern flower design + text.
Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
I want it to look professional, modern, fun.
What is your tagline or slogan?
Life+Style Portraiture... It would be great for this to be included in your design, even if it is just a simple font tagline.
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
That I am a professional business... and that my sessions are fun, modern, and unique to each family's style or personalities.
Where will your new logo be used?
Website: www.inbloomphoto.com
printing marketing materials
Car decal
signage
Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
Local competitors have a more traditional style and logo using the business name only.
What sets you apart from your competitors?
I offer in-home and location sessions which gives me a more modern twist.
Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
I think that my tag line says it:

Life+Style Portraiture

Here are some logos I like because of the way they include a design element that clearly represents the biz name...

This is so exciting... Thank you so much designers:)
Taldo... I like this... I like how the tree is blooming, but it seems a little sparse maybe?
Offbeat... I am loving Versions 1 and 3. For number 2, I like the colors, but using the 2 flowers together makes me think of boobs:) I am thinking on them, number 3 really struck me. I like the fonts you have used, but if you have any other fonts you think might work I would like to see them also:)

Thanks. What kinds of fonts are you drawn to?

Hmmm... good question. I have just had a basic font for a while so maybe that's it... maybe something a little more abstract such as SF New Republic (just throwing one out from my library). I don't NOT like the one you used.

Giant... I like this. I think I would prefer a different color, and I don't think I like the gradient look... Can you try something with orange, yellow, pink?
Offbeat... I do prefer the font in B and C. Definitely the "n" in B looks cool. I like the color variations... can you do one with the pink being the accent color and maybe an orange/yellow/green? I also still like your Version 1... I like the idea of using a heart/hearts as a flower...
I am attaching some other designs I found on this site that I like. Also an image that uses an overlapping look that I liked.

Tini... that is very cute. I'm not sure about the fish... I would like to see a heart tree, or heart flower if possible.
Also... I know I said turquoise in my original post, but I am realizing it isn't my fav. I think a combination of any: yellow, orange, pink, grey.
I am attaching my old logo I used for years for your reference. I made this and liked it okay but it doesn't look professional...

Oh, Wow... you are all so talented:)
UPDATED DESCRIPTION: I have realized in reviewing my likes/dislikes that I prefer 1 or 2 colors (plus a grey) only... sorry to redirect, but I have figured out that this is my preference:)
Tina... V1: I like the idea, of a color block with a flower in it, but I would prefer just 1 or 2 colors... and maybe the flower a little more simple/bold? V2: I prefered 1.
Titania... This is cute, but I don't want a rose:(
Glyphica... I like the design!... can you do it with just one color? Like the flower inside the block and then just the outline... I like the "in" and "bloom" being 2 different colors. Can you use a font that is more smooth, that doesn't have the stick come down on the b or n?
Orangemonkey... thanks so much... I think I am looking for something cleaner...
Giant... I like both of these designs. I like the font. V1: Can you use a pink that is less purple and more warm? Like a more orange-pink, if that makes any sense. V2: I like the change you made with the pedals! How would it look with the going from yellow to orange?
THANKS SO MUCH!!!

You guys are awesome!
I am really narrowing down my preferences as I take in your designs.
I have decided to stick with the flower and not the tree... as much as I love the trees, the flower designs really say "inbloom" to me.
Tini... Thank you so much for making the revision based on my comments. I like the design, but I am going to go with a flower... any flower ideas you have would be great! Sorry to misdirect you.
Offbeat... I think you were right the first time with V4, keeping the flowers pink. Thanks for showing me the other colors. I am going to keep this one in mind. I like V6, but want to go in a different direction. I want to stick with a basic and bold flower design.
Glyphica... I still like this design, can you do it with just the design in pink (no box, just the outline) and then with a pink box with the design in the middle in white only? Also, can the design be above the text rather than to the side?
nutscreative... I like this... can you show it to me with the circles in just one color? Can I see one in pink and one in yellow/orange? I love the font on the second version.
Giant... Still really diggin V1.2. Love the idea of the aperature shape in the middle. I would like to see the colors range from yellow to orange (even add in a pink if it needs a 3rd color). Also if you have any variations you can think of that would be great (ie: longer petals, skinnier petals, petals that are a bit more teardrop shape like in the logo I posted in post 2 for inkdrops, or maybe the petals as an outline and not solid... whatever variations you think look nice).

here's from me again,..
a different color combo
the reason I made such shape for the icon is
because beside as a flower, it was originally taken
from the shape of shutter, and B-shape for each pair of petals
thank you :)

Wendi*inbloom
01-22-2009, 06:18 AM
Woo-hoo... these designs are awesome!!
Glyphica... I like that pink... can you make "inbloom" as one word and in grey?
Giant... I love your concept, and I am really into the shutter center! I prefer V1.2 to the last more colorful ones... I like the fading in of color... can you do that with a yellow-orange look? I see what you're saying about the B, but I don't need an initial in it... the flower with the shutter is supercool enough. Can you try some variations with yellow-orange? And maybe play with the petals a bit... like make the shutter smaller/petals bigger, or have the shutter color and then the petals an outline? I love it, but any variations you can come up with I'd also love to see...
nutscreative... I LOVE C and D! Except I think I prefered the flower shape in your original design (looks like maybe the circles are pulled in a bit? I like the first version, or somewhere in between). Could I see just a version with the yellow from C and the orange from D? Also, maybe one with a really warm orangish pink? Love them!

Nutscreative.... I love these color choices and I like the text. I really like this design and I'm going to keep it for consideration! Sorry about my confusion on the change in shape, I was the victim of an optical illusion!
Tini... I love your color choices and the simple layout, but I want to stay away from sunflowers...
Offbeat... I like this idea of a white flower in a color block... can you do one with a more damask look (but still modern, not traditional?)
Giant... AWESOME! Thank you so much for making the changes I requested. I love the new version! I have a couple more requests, sorry to be a pain. For the text, can you use SF New republic and keep inbloomphotography all together as one word, one line. I would like the "photography" to be grey, and the "in" and "bloom" in 2 different shades of a color. I am still torn between the yellow/orange look and the pink. Can you pretty please show me the following options: for outlined version, 1.yellow/gold with an orange center adn 2. pink with whatever center you think looks best. For the pink... I really want a more orange or yellowish pink, rather than the purplish pink. For the solid version: can you do one that has each pedal fading from yellow-orange (not in sets of 2) and the same for a pink? and then a solid yellow with orange center, and a hot pink one also. Sorry, I know this is a big request!!
Tatiana... that is a nice design, but I am hooked on the single flower look now:)

Awesome!
Love that fade.
Final touches: I prefer the orange center... using the most saturated orange (like the deeper orange in your Version 3). Also, I'm not sure but I think that the text color has a fade in it... I'd prefer it to be just the solid orange and pink, using the most saturated colors. Same for the outline version... if you could use that deeper orange for the center and for the bloom text. I'm ready for them!
