Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Inglin Photography

What type of product or service do you offer?
I specialize in contemporary natural light portraits of newborns, babies, children and families.

How long have you been in business?
2 years

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
Create a consistent brand. Something that conveys a fresh & classy look. A logo that people will recognize and remember.

What are your long term goals?
Attract high-end clientele and establish a reputation as a highly sought after children's photographer.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
February 5th

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
New parents & middle-class families.

Who would you like to add to your audience?
I would like to target a higher-end clientele. Clients who value photography and want to invest in it.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
I am looking for a logo that is clean, classic & modern that also feels fresh and conveys luxury & high quality.
I do not like "cutesy." However, since I am a children's photographer, I could see a hint of something whimsical in the logo.

You can see my current logo & work here:
www.inglinphotography.com (http://www.inglinphotography.com)

I am tired of serif font, so a sans serif font is preferrable, for a more modern look.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
I am open to colors, but I want to convey a "fresh" feeling, so spring green or lime green comes to mind. Accented with grey & white for a refreshing palette. Am open to other colors.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
I am open to having an icon or something with my intial "I" -- but it is not necessary.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
Candid, fun, creative

What is your tagline or slogan?
N/A
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?

Where will your new logo be used?
Website, blog, business cards, marketing pieces, pricing lists. Everything!

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
Many of my competitors have very whimsical logos or lots of flourishes. I'd like to avoid that and do something different.

Thank you in advance!! I'm really looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

nutscreative-- Thanks for jumping in right away! Out of the three designs, I like the third one the best. I'm lukewarm about the motif.. I'd like to see more in that direction. Also, maybe try all lowercase font? I tend to like either all uppercase or all lowercase fonts. It looks cleaner to me. And possibly a different sans serif font?

Thanks so much!

glyphica -- thanks for your designs. I really like your work! But these two aren't doing it for me. I do love what you're doing for In Bloom Photography. I'm totally drawn to the feeling of the latest version.

Here are two other photos that help describe the feeling I'm going for. Fresh, modern, with a little whimsical touch.

offbeatdesign-- I'm liking it! It's not quite there yet.. but I like the feeling of it.. I'd love to see more from you! Some other icons? I do like the rounded corners of the icon.. the word photography is too small, so maybe tweak that?

I wish I could give more direction & ideas for the icon/motif. Unfortunately, my business name doesn't lend itself to anything obvious. I'll keep brainstorming.. as more designs come in. Thanks! :)

mimiinglin

brunocalvin -- Thanks for your concept! I like the extra colors.. very fun! I think the icon is a little too abstract for me.

glyphica -- the icon is ok.. not sure if it's "the one" yet. I definitely don't want to use the same font that I have for my current logo. I want something NEW! I'm so tired of my old logo! I like the text to either be on top of each other or all one line. This seems off-balanced to me. Thanks for your concepts so far.. keep 'em coming!

I did come across a logo that is in the works on the forum that I really love. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post it here since it's still being designed and I don't want to step on any designer's toes. But if it helps convey what I'm trying to go for, then I can share the example.

Hi, you could post the design you see from other project forum (its common and other Design Outpost clients are doing the same thing). It could give designers a more clear direction and style you are looking for. Thanks.:)

Oh my gosh -- this is great! I love that there are so many different concepts! This is really getting my wheels spinning and helping me define what I want. So thanks to all of you!

Offbeat-- I like version 2 better than version 1. Thanks for making the revisions! Can I see "inglin" in another font? And can you stack "inglin" and "photography" on top of each other? Version 3 is very cute, but reminds me too much of dandelions and I know that's been done before.

Pracus-- I'm really diggin the initial! I have such a hard time envisioning what to do with the letter I. It is a very hard letter, I think. But I LOVE your take on it! I love how it can stand alone and it would still look good and people can identify me by looking at it. Can I see the text in some different fonts? Also, can I see the icon in a square box with rounded corners above the text?

I think the colors of version two are super fun and whimsical and so is the icon, but I know the dandelion has been done before, so I'm trying to avoid that. Thanks!

nutscreative-- I like version 4 better than version 5, but it's not really speaking to me. The flower in version 6 is darling, but just not me. Too frilly and cutesy. Sorry!

brunocalvin-- The "i" above the text in version 2 just doesn't feel right fo some reason. It feels too heavy and overwhelming, I think. And version 3 feels too masculine.

Here are a few more logos that I came across that I really like:

I really like the icon in this one. It has a little bit of cuteness that would go well for a children's photographer, but it's not too whimsical or frilly. (I don't like this particular font though.)

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3268/3220279063_bca42660c4.jpg

I really like the feel of this logo. It feels fresh and fun. Modern & simple. I could even be persuaded into changing colors, LOL!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3111/3220798854_10f0d4806a.jpg

I have also been a huge fan of this logo. I think the initials look so cool in this box.

I'm sorry to switch gears a few days into this process, but--

After spending some time pouring over the logo concepts so far and really taking a hard look at my own work and style, I found a logo that I am absolutely in love with and really speaks to me! And it would work perfectly with my new website that I am working on! :D

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3255/3221477493_b928335d83.jpg

I love that it is simple, yet sophisticated, with a touch of whimsy. I really like the serif font or something similar to the one used in this website:

http://www.purlsoho.com/purl

Can you do something like this? Revise this logo to fit my name? I would love my business name to be on one line and then we can use this tagline underneath: (in a smaller font)

candid + contemporary

OR

babies. children. families

If you could do this in a chartreuse green font, I would be so grateful! Thank you! Looking forward to what you come up with!

P.S. -- I'm still considering the other concepts, but I'd really like to see where we can take this new concept.

Wow, thanks so much for all your revisions! I'll start by giving my feedback on the latest concepts:

I would like to see more space between the letters of "inglin photography" - it feels like it needs to breathe more. And a thinner font - if that makes any sense.

pracus[/B]-- I appreciate you adding other colors, but I would still like to stick to a chartreuse green/white/grey palette. I don't like the bolded "inglin" font even though I know it may stand out more. I prefer a more simple, understated look.

tini1-- Thanks for jumping in! I love the whimsical look of the flower in Version 1- but I don't think I want a flower. Even though I know I must have confused you because I do like Version 2, but no one else I have polled seems to like it! What I do like about Version 2 is the FONT in "candid + contemporary." It's the only font that I like so far! I actually like how you spaced "candid + contemporary." Can you do that with "inglin photography?" Can I see it simply written in that font without an icon for the moment?

LOVE the colors in Version 3. I even like that you used a slightly different shade of chartreuse green. It seems very clean and I like that.

My thoughts on Version 4 are same of Version 1. :) I'd love to see more from you, if possible!! :)

brunocalvin-- I'd love to see a few more scrolls in Version 5. And can you bring them closer together? They kinda seem far apart. :) And no bold text on "inglin". Maybe space it out more like you have done with "candid + contemporary." For Version 6, I'm not a fan of the multi-colors.

taldo-- I'm not feelin' this one at all. Don't like the rose and "inglin" is way too big! I'd like to stick with a green/white/grey palette. Thanks!

offbeat-- The three flowers feels way too heavy in Version 7. And I don't like the fonts either.

nutscreative-- Didn't I see a concept from you? (Version 10?) It has disappeared! None of the last concepts (7,8,9) work for me.
--------------------------------------------
Of the previous concepts, this one still stands out to me:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3424/3227977040_ba0b8911c0.jpg

pracus-- I'm still looking for the right font. Can you try a font like the one here? (again, see how I like a little space in between each letter?)

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3313/3226006295_957454ec2d.jpg

And can you put the text to the right of the icon (all one line) and underneath it?

OffbeatDesign

offbeat-- The three flowers feels way too heavy in Version 7. And I don't like the fonts either.

Thanks. Font was the same as the PurlSoho logo you posted. I'll come up with some other designs and fonts.

mimiinglin
01-26-2009, 07:34 AM
offbeat-- Sorry! I think my eyes are playing tricks on me! I know it's a serif font, but it didn't look the same to me. Perhaps spacing it out and not putting "inglin" in bold would work?

I threw this together based on nutscreative's design (which has been pulled for some reason) to show you what I'm looking for. (the font here is Adobe Caslon Pro) Let me know if I should pull these examples, since nutscreative's concept disappeared.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3422/3229084106_ce3f6bd560.jpg

I also think it looks good in a sans serif font, for a more modern look.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3368/3228232535_556002c2e6.jpg

I am ridiculously simple, so I like that the text is all grey and the motif adds a little bit of color.

I'm open to a modification of this design.. I'd like to see what else can be done with the handdrawn lollipops.. or something similar.

nutscreative

Hi, sorry for the confusion. The reason moderator pull out my previous post is because they think the logo is too close to the image you post, anyway, please see revised attached. Thanks.:)

mimiinglin
01-26-2009, 08:09 AM
nutscreative-- I totally understand. Can I see this without the sunburst and the tagline in grey and not multi-colored? Or simply choose one color from the lollipops and use that. The tagline is hard to read when it is multi-colored like that and I like it more simple :) And the sticks not in a solid line, but in a dotted or dashed line? Thank you very much!

Hi. Thanks for the feedback.

Here's the revision.

mimiinglin
01-26-2009, 10:42 AM
brunocalvin-- Oooh, cool. Thanks for the revisions. Let me think about this.

pracus-- I still love the "i" you came up with. Could you do something like this?

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3082/3229528118_49915c5b42.jpg

Sorta tuck the text into the nook of the "i" and use a sans serif font? I'm not crazy about this particular font.. maybe because the letters seem kinda wide. Maybe something a little thinner? I also like using a tagline on the bottom.. seems to balance it out.

Or if you think of another way to combine the icon with the text in a creative way, I'm open to it. The other versions - the "i" just seemed to float out there and didn't seem connected to anything.

What I like about the "i" is it can stand alone on stickers and be identified with me. I also like that it feels a little whimsy with the slight curl and three dots, without being too much or being too stiff.

I swear the letter "i" is the worst letter in the alphabet! :)

Hi, when you announce a winner, project will then move to revision forum, so designer and client can make further adjustment until you are happy with the end result. You could edit the logo if you have Adobe Illustrator (ai/eps format) or Photoshop (psd format), however font will create into outline(which is not editable anymore). Thanks.:)

nutscreative-- I'd like to see a few different options for the sans serif font.

And I'd like to make the lollipop/swirls a shade darker..

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3307/3234395857_269362629d.jpg

I do like that you used a shade variation among the lollipops. Maybe start out with a slightly darker color and go a little lighter from there. Does that make sense?

Thank you!

nutscreative
01-28-2009, 02:06 PM
Hi, Please see some font options.:)

mimiinglin
01-28-2009, 10:42 PM
nutscreative-- I like the first version better than these versions. Can you try these fonts? They're free on dafont.com

http://www.dafont.com/geo-sans-light.font?nb_ppp=50

http://www.dafont.com/lane.font?nb_ppp=50

http://www.dafont.com/mank-sans.font?nb_ppp=50

And do you have Futura?

http://www.linotype.com/472/futura-family.html

Two more questions:

1) Will I be able to change the color in the future in the .psd file?

2) When you send the files, can you send me the files without the text (just the icons) in the event that I decide I want to just use the icons for things like stickers or if I want to use another font?

nutscreative
01-29-2009, 06:54 AM
Hi, Please see the new font replacement. The font order "Futura", "Geosan", "Lane" and "Mank".

Yes, you could edit the colour in photoshop, i will provide you with ai, psd and jpg format of the complete logo plus the image in a seperate folder. Thanks:)

mimiinglin
01-29-2009, 07:49 AM
nutscreative-- Thank you so much!! Can you try one more? This will be the last one, I promise! :)

http://www.dafont.com/search.php?psize=m&q=walkway

Also, I'm just curious what it would look like if the far right lollipop was just slightly darker. I'm getting super nit-picky here, but I appreciate the revisions. Thank you!

nutscreative
01-29-2009, 08:05 AM
Not a problem, here you go.:)

mimiinglin
01-29-2009, 09:54 AM
Awesome, I think this is the one. Can you do Walkway without the spaces in between the letters? And can the tagline be a little darker? It seems a little hard to read.

We're getting so close! Thank you!

nutscreative
01-29-2009, 10:04 AM
Hi, Revised attached. Thanks.:)

mimiinglin
01-29-2009, 05:45 PM
I'm torn because I like the Walkway font, but one seems too wide and the other seems too squished! (I'm leaning toward the "expanded" version)

Is it possible (and I realize it may not be) to compromise somewhere in the middle?

Also, what about using little bullet dots instead of periods in between Babies and Children and Children and Families? Can you show me that with grey bullets and green bullets to match the color of the graphic. That might tie everything together.

If that doesn't work, I would like a period after FAMILIES as well. Thanks!

nutscreative
01-30-2009, 05:49 AM
Hi, i tried to use green bullet with grey text but seems not a big difference on grey or green bullet, so i created some other options you suggested. For "a" and "c", text kerning is 45 and "b" and "d" kerning is 80. Let me know if its good. Thanks.:)

mimiinglin
01-30-2009, 11:56 AM
Thanks for all of your work!

Let's do kerning 100. I love the bullets in between the words of the tagline.

If I'm able to remove the tagline and/or change the color of it, I'll just take it in grey right now. And I can change it later, if necessary.

If you can make those changes, I'll take the files! :)

nutscreative

nutscreative

mimiinglin
01-30-2009, 12:54 PM
I got 'em! Would it be too much to ask if I could get the file with the logo that has the tagline in the green?

I just realized that I don't know how to make those bullets in Photoshop, so I won't be able to keep the tagline and change the color on my own. Thanks!

mimiinglin

Also, if I want to change the color of the lollipops, I have to do it with the "ai" file right? I have Photoshop, but I don't believe I can adequately change the color in this way. Let me know the best way to do this! Thank you!

(The reason why I'm asking is -- I can't decide between the first color and the current color! They are both great! And until my website is done, I'm not sure which color to go with.)

Hi, i sent you another link with green tagline. Please check your Private Message again. Best and easy way will be using Adobe Illustrator to edit the "ai" file, but you could adjust the colour too (use the psd file) if you are familiar with Photoshop tools, there are many way you could do to adjust or fill colour in Photoshop. Thanks.:)

Thank you for posting the revisions.

I think #1 is actually more similar to the other logo, rather than more different. #2 and #3 seem off balanced with just one lollipop, although I know that would solve the problem, yet keeping the same concept.

In #4 - I don't think the swirls work well with the diamond shape.

I'd prefer to keep the circle. What other ideas do you have other than just doing one lollipop instead of three? Could we change up the text with just one lollipop?

Hi there - thank you for your revisions. I am sorry I didn't respond sooner, I didn't receive any email notifications that there were more posts in this thread, so I didn't check back until now.

I'm not feeling either of these two.. do you have any other ideas?
