Greetings,
AWritingLife.Org is an offshot of our small non-traditional church (incorporated in wisconsin and application for 501c3 submitted)
This site does not yet exist-- though some content does and workshops have taken palce -- a logo..or better site header to help us get it started would be great:)
Details:
1.The Site
2. Title
3. Imagery
4. Colors
1.The Site
It is actually a site about WRITING as a
mission..an organic and creative process...
involved in healing and transforming the world
2.Site Title: A Writing Life
3.Imagery:
The metaphor for the site will be the writer as a tree...
Taking in nourishment from the world
branches extending out, growing leaves
And returning Fruit
Some sun and stream in image would be good.
Important Note: (This site is not about marketing writing, mechanics or grammar or selling ones writing
The site is about the Process of Writing and it's fruits for the world
. It will have some writings ( of course) about
writing ,growth ,healing & spirituality..it will offer workshops on these and resources on writing artistry, creativity, nature and religion and healing sort of stuff
4.Color Scheme:
General color preferences would be....
Really Rich and Organic Colors --Greens, Blues with some Gold and Deep
Red or maybe brick sort of stuff......a feeling of organic/natural richness..yet
classy
Laughs..is this too much or too little info?
Best

HI!
WOW
I feel bad giving any alternative feeback but I guess that is how we do this.
They all look great...
what we want though is more realistic deep colors..
I'll see if I can find some sites that have those sort
Maybe thinking more about showing the RoOTS and branches
so a sense of drawing in energy from earth/water...
and giving back to people in form fruit
Let me see if I can find some helpful images/colors
Thankx

2nd revision…please suggest accordingly on any changes. Stick with artistic look or more photo-like? Will this be used on stationary/bus. card? Thx, Doug. ;)

Great! It's really getting there
Yes more realistic-- tree larger and older more trunk and branches
Yes GG more realistic photo like and colors more realistic to nature
It doesn't need to be a sunrise though it can be and I really love the sun in the second one....and there being a lot of it
Could use more water
this is for a web page so you can feel free to spread it vertically (like the trunk for instance) and horizontally..
Who knows we might want to print flyers at some point. I know hat number of colors are different...How hard would it be to convert it if we just focused on the web now?
Now we are getting all excited

I really wish I had the illustrational skills in order to submit a design that fits the description (incorporating roots, branches, trees, sun, water, fruit, etc....).
However, if something pops into my mind, then I'll be sure to re-submit! ;)
rlevant
11-08-2003, 02:39 PM
Cool Jon
Can you add in roots and sun and water and fruit
and maybe a pencil horizon:)
(or some other symbol of writing ?)
:)
jonmulk
11-08-2003, 03:05 PM
OK, illustrational designs aren't my strongest point, but I gave it a go anyway. I've incorporated a tree's roots, a pencil (but not as a horizon line, as that would be copying GG's concept), fruit, and the sun. Let me know what you think.

hi :) I think this is probably not the type of style you're looking for.. but I wanted to submit it anyway since I finished it :)

rlevant

NOt the style!!!
IT IS WONDERFUL
MAN we LOVE IT
The colors are wonderful
movement of water is great
What we'd love would be *chuckle*
to combine Your idea of colors of water, sun and trunk and such and design of the tree
with the way GG integrated writing INTO the nature design making the connection
heh ..or if jon added such things to his tree:)
We are so not artists so coming up with ways to integrate writing with nature is probably not siomething we will do well..but here are some of our graphical skill limited and severely design challenged ideas (we are not idea challenged :))
I hope GG comes back and stays with the Horizon idea ..makingthe colors deeper and tree more tree like larger\
For others.. hard...adding a writer (if gendered should be female)
Or usingthe words
or bringng some apples over to the other side where there could be a writer, writing implement or notebook or people reading or coming out of a book being writen
orr notebook could be the ground on which tree grows
Just brainstorming.. no attachments here to our design impared thoughts :)

Oh Man oh Jon Engle
Oh my gosh WOWSA
You really have what we are looking for there
Can you do these changes
The idea of the second entry with the tree of your first entry and these changes
1. make quill deep russet red
2. make apples on the tree that color too
3.add that redish and orangy into the sun make it a little less 2d more life
4.add apple near thequill and book
5.add stream iwith rich bluish color like I mentioned liking in another entry
6.If possible add roots to the tree
Here is a link to a flash animation with a sun we love (another of our sites)

Hi Kelly!
Sorry for confusing you... Our lack of design understanding is probably shining through as bright as your sun ;-)
The idea was to get the *writing* idea in there somehow
Does that help?
It is certainly less wordy than my first attempt to clarify :)

Hi jonmulk!
You are just great. Not sure what to tell you there
We do love the lettering but we do want more Tree and such
Love the way that tree trunk and roots frame the design ..I'm not sure it could work larger... meaning more verticle height and more Tree ...
could it?
Could water be added...?
Thank you so much for hanging in there ...
The richness of your colors and enry is really appreciated

Its 1:10am over here so I'm just heading off to my bed :)... If there are any changes you'd like to see to my last design with the quill, I will be able to get them done in the morning :)
Thanks again!!

Awesome Kelly !
Could you make the Quill the red of the apples?
We have toyed with asking about putting an apple down lin the area of words and quill
maybe even like an inkwell
But as I have shown..we lack design sense and that might not be a good idea *laughs*
use your judgment ..it looks marvelous

Good morning Kelly!
I half expected to see a sheep in there this morning
I had pictures in my head last ight of a Sheep taking a bite of teh apple
and then of a black sheep...cause it took a bite of the quill
Ah ...hemmm
We love em...could we see the solid apples version WITH an apple like the one you have done near the quill? :)
WOW we are tempted to close the contest except we want to see what disturbed reality does with his tree and if GG(Doug) will do a revise....
If you guys are around let me know if you are going to submit a revision so I can either keep open a bit longer or close the contest before the sheep do something really strange.

Hi Jon
Ok we are breathing again.
We love the tree and the sunrise and color water
Love the idea of apple with bite (although the desire for sheep there is great---Kidding)
What I would like to try for is greater integration between the nature scene and the Text part
Here are few changes we would like to try and then an idea that may or may not have merit ( of course I am now emboldened by how good the apple and Quill idea I had worked;-))
1. We would like the Apple , Book , Quill Larger
2. The red lettering does not seem right...Blue like the Water and or black or dark dark green might look better
Now for a nother non designer attempt at design thought:
I wonder if the apple tree had some apples having fallen in the picture and some rolled down into the text area
hehehehe
Maybe that could give it that integrated look I am going for?

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Not ANOTHER OPTION
We will go nuts
we want em all
(and I have to admit my partner and I privately have said we actualy DO like the sheep version the best.... Imagine if this was a how to market your writing site (it is not) we could do a flash animation of sheep going by then the words
It Is NOT Just a Dream....the sheep gambol across your landscape and then disappear and the quill and apple and text appear on the picture... )
KellyB
11-09-2003, 01:58 PM
maybe the sheep and the falling apples are a bit too much

Now I am dying to have you guys do some of our ancient egypt sites LOL
and to find a flash person for that sheep animation hahaha

Well . . . er, um . . . Kelly and Jon. As Renee said, I'm . . . er, speechless. Wow!
Watching the development of these designs step by step was amazing! I am SO graphically undeveloped . . . but as a writer, I see that this is analogous to first draft and revisions.
Renee and I are thrilled that someone donated so that we can have both, because really . . . I don't know HOW we would have decided.
And, Kelly, I'm really happy that your first win was our contest! Yay!
I think Palmer has confirmed the first $65 deposit, and we're just waiting for confirmation of the one we just made.
Anyway, for a speechless woman, I guess I've said quite a bit, so I'll quit.
