I am wondering if one ca request more tha 2 pages

And if so what the usual range of cost is for extra pages if someone is doing template contest

I am not needing someone to do the entire site

I am thinking it would be nice to have 2 or 3 content pages designed that I could use for different sorts of pages I will be adding rather than one.

How many did you have in mind? Rule of thumb would be $200 for 1 page and $100 for each page thereafter.

Yes, you could do this with a template contest or have a 2 page contest and then negotiate with the winning designer for more pages after the contest.
