Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?

PicCrop

What type of product or service do you offer?

It's a MS Windows based graphical software application used for modifying and editing images.

How long have you been in business?

About 2 years. The logo is for a new product.

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?

Use the new identity as part of a successful launch of a new product.

What are your long term goals?

To build a large list of users of the application.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?

May 17

Audience Profile: Please describe your existing audience

I don’t have any yet! ;-)

Who would you like to add to your audience?

Individual consumers with digital cameras that are looking to achieve better results when printing their photographs.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines: What type of logo would you like?

I would like the logo to be based on the name of the product "PicCrop"

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)

None.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?

None.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?

When people see the product's logo I want to give the impression that it's serious in the sense that the product is well designed and implemented, but light-hearted and fun because it’s a small graphical utility that should mainly appeal to individual consumers and not corporate buyers.

What is your tagline or slogan?

The easiest way to achieve professional looking images and prints from your photographs.

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?

That it’s a product worth trying, and ultimately, paying for.

Where will your new logo be used?

Application: Splash screen / About box.
Other: Website, business cards and possibly packaging etc

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?

The following aren’t competitors but may help me express what I do and don’t like. (Selecting them opens up a clearer version)

http://www.qbssoftware.com/Publisher_list.aspx

In short….
Adobe – Great
Alt-n – Too complicated
Altova – Too plain
CodeGear – Too much text
Corel - Good
Dameware – Pants! Difficult to read!
Macromedia – Great
Microsoft – OK, but plain
Sophos – OK
Symantec – OK
VMWare – Great
Winzip – Hate it

List competitive URLs if possible

If this is OK with everyone, I’d like to leave this open so not to influence any ideas.

What sets you apart from your competitors?

Impossible to say at the moment because the product hasn't been launched yet, but I hope....

a) Easy to use - Not too many functions that you don't use anyway
b) Low cost
c) Good, timely support

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:

Not sure????

Additional

Adobe Illustrator, or ideally in Inkscape format please.

I will need winning designer to sign the copyright transfer.

The last time I used this service I received some fantastic ideas, and was very happy with the end result, so I’m looking forward seeing all your ideas for this project.

I intend to provide constructive feedback as quickly as I can.

Quirk Design: Thanks for your entries. Looks like a good start. Before commenting I'll hang on to see what else comes in if that's OK?

Thanks

Thanks everyone for your submissions. In general, I like them all :)

Quirk Design Version 1.0
I like it. Would it be possible to see it with the bottom edge of the writing aligned?

Quirk Design Version 2.0
I prefer V1. The extra taken out of the square is perhaps too fussy, after seeing V1.

glyphica Version 1:
I like it. Can you try it with a capital "P" and "C"?

glyphica Version 2:
I like the cropping link, but I think it's too simple. I like V1 better.

nhr Version 1 & 2:
Not keen. The icon within the square makes me think of an eye. The font in V2 looks good though. Possible to try V2 without the "eye"? Perhaps this might make it look too plain?

coffeegir1 Verion 1:
The concept is OK, but looks too busy where the line crosses the C and p.

Dewa Jaya Verion 1:
Looks OK but not special. Perhaps too "generic". Might it look better with a softer, less "technical" font?

Another update.....

Quirk Design Version 3.0:
I think I prefer V1.

Glyphica Version 3:
Thanks, I think a) looks the best.

LutFi:
I'm not keen on either of the concepts, Sorry.

Pracus Version 1:
The icon and text don't seem to "go together". Doesn't do anything for me.

Thanks
Ian

glyphica Version 4:
I like it - can't think of anything to try different with it.

xpressions Version 1.0
Looks very cool and modern and I can imagine seeing it used in places, but it isn't the look I'm after.

brunocalvin Version 1
I don't like it, sorry.

LutFi Version 4,5,6 and 7
I'm not that keen on them, they feel too simplistic/basic

brunocalvin Version 2
Interesting play with the P, but I'm not keen how the P has been filled with the blue square. - Also the font looks too weak.

NHR Version 3
I like the idea - not sure I love it though. Possible to try it with a capital P and C?

LutFi Version 8
I like it, mainly the icon. The text looks a bit plain. The icon feels rich and "warm", but the font doesn't to anything for me - It doesn't feel "connected" to the icon, if that makes any sense?

Quirk Design
The logo might not always be used on a white background, or might be on a background that is close in colour to the orange and grey.

Is it possible to see Version 3 in some sort of coloured round cornered rectangle? I'll leave the colour up to your imagination.

brunocalvin: Version 3
Thanks for the modification. I'll have to think on it.

Dewa Jaya: Version 2
Not keen on playing with the O. Makes it look too much like an a! eeekk!

LutFi: Version 9
Thanks for your entries. Again, one to think about.

Quirk Design: Version 4
I don't like 4.3 - too severe
4.1 and 4.2 are OK - I like what it looks like, but can you try some different colour combinations?

OK - Thanks Everyone.

I've decided the winner is NHR (Version 3.1)

It was very nearly Quirk Design but I think NHR just edged it. Also thanks to LutFi for all your attempts.

Thanks everyone for entering.
