Hello Designers!! =)

We have about a week to create a binder cover, (front, back and spine - see attachment for 1.5" binder specs) for the new version of our "Small Business Builder Kit". Not quite Bootcamp speed, but close... =)

This will go under our twentytwelve, inc. company name.

The market is those individuals looking to start their own small business...

We would like the image to be professional and somewhat trendy - not stuffy or conservative. No images of people please or computers or other traditional business icons... We would like a more abstract image...

If you need any more information, let me know! =)

Maraia

PS: Abby - I should have $600 credit with you from the last bootcamp to put towards this project. Thanks! :)

Hi..
Do you have any logo?
Any copy/text for the back ?
Any more information?

Thanks!

:)

Text on cover: Small Business Builder Kit
Text on spine: Small Business Builder Kit & twentytwelve, inc.
Text on back: twentytwelve, inc

twentytwelve, inc is always in lower case...

We do not have a logo for this business... I don't currently have any plans to create one at this time... may change in the future, but right now consider it as though it were a book cover of sorts....

Thanks!

Okay, since I don't have any entries yet and I'd like to move this along with some momentum:

If a design is chosen in the next 48hours I'll award an additional $50 provided the files are delivered by the 5/28 deadline.

Second place will win $25 for playing... =)

Thanks team... :D

Hi Nutscreative, =)

Let's loose the & on the spine... I was just saying to have both the title and business name on the spine... and let's loose the spots/circles...

Instead of the earth image on the spine, let's see if you can make the front and back come together on the spine so it seems more seemless... and let's stay with the same hues of blue front and back, i think...

Good start, thanks...

I think we may also want to go with a sort of 'treasure map' theme as a possibility... =/ just an idea we're kicking around...

Hey there,

Attached are some images from istockphoto that we are looking to use on the site we are creating. A sort of compass/direction finder -> money/success, etc... Please take a look at these images and see how you may be able to incorporate this theme...

Thanks!! =D

Hi..
Here is my proposal..
I try to make it a little colorful, to give a fresh look and strengthen its identity (branding?).. you can recognize the kit from a distance..

Thanks!

good morning, =)

bloggins, i really like that theres color and the overall feel. id like to see a color variation i think on the orange.... but i like it. it may be fine the way it is... nhr: i like your compass illustration and that its original... i would definitety like to see some bold color, as it is it seems a bit dreary. its an educational home study course, i want them to feel excited when looking at it.
nuts: thanks for making the changes, it is better. i dont think i like the treasure chest and map being so literal. your design maybe a candidate for the weathervane idea, too... the colors and feel seem to be a better match...

thanks, gang... ill look forward to your updates! =)

Hi Lutfi, =)

I think this has some great possibilities... Can I see "small business" on the front more bold/stronger font and let's add some additional color, it is very monotone... but overall nice impression...

Thanks!

I also changed the color scheme.. I can show you more color variations later if you want me to complete the project.

Version # 2

Hi Maraia,
I chosed "monotone" color to reflect an old map and valuable golden atmosphere just like treasure hunter era.

Here I modify the fonts, and add some accent color to the font.

Hello,

Here is another proposal.. just a little cheerful color combination, trendy/clean and not too playful..

I tried to avoid a boring conservative look/color scheme...

I didn't change the font because it's strong and well-balanced, good to represent trustworthy report/guide...

Thanks!

Hi.. Here is my last try..
Something in the middle.. but still simple and not busy..

Btw, I recommend you to print the designs that you liked (using your color printer).. then compare them side by side.. and in a distance..

Thanks!

Hey there,

So far I'm really liking Bogglins post #20... Only a couple changes I would make...

Lutfi, the concept is still in the running... a variation on version #3 is still in consideration...

I'm going to wait until I see what BlueCherry posts, if its today, before making the final call...

nhr and nutscreative, thank you for your entries, I'm going to pass on these concepts but I appreciate the work and creativity that went into them! =)

thanks team!! =)

Here you go! I'm still working on the back and spine. Just thought I'd send you what I had so far before deadline comes around.

PS. You might see some watermarks on the stock pictures but that, of course, will go when the higher resolution final stock pictures are used.

Hi Bogglins... =)

Sorry for the delay, things got a little crazy here in the last week...

Okay - let's see... Can we see the full layout (back, spine & front)? So far, I see that I may want to make smaller the "twentytwelve, inc" on the cover... Other than that, let's see it all together and give all the feedback then...

Thanks! =)

Hi Maraia,

Here is the revised design..
I reduced the size of the "twentytwelve, inc" on the front cover..
also adjusted the compass a bit..

Btw, I have some questions..
According to the pdf file of the artwork specification on your project brief, the dimension for the 1 1/2” Slant D Ring - cover: 10 1/2” x 11 1/4” ...and Spine: 2 1/8” x 11 1/4”
All Binder outserts need to have a 1/4” bleed around the edges.

My question is:
1. Should the final files (JPGs) be separated - Front - Spine - Back .. with their own 1/4" bleed ?
Some binders have use 1 sheet cover (front-spine-back/similar to DVD case).. and some has 3 pocket for 3 outserts (2 covers - 1 spine)

2. Is the dimension on the specs above already including the bleed? or should I add another 1/4" around?

Please advise...

Thanks!

Hi Pieter...

I'm so sorry. No excuses... just crazy life... =}

Okay, I will have to verify the answer to a couple of these questions with the printer; however, I do know that they are 3 seperate pockets... so I imagine they each need their own bleed...

2. Is the dimension on the specs above already including the bleed? or should I add another 1/4" around?

To this I am unsure... I can tell you what though, I will attach the file from our previous binder and you should probably be able to tell from that... This will likely be quicker than me contacting the printer... (looks like i'd have to email it seperately - too big to attach)... I'll ask.

Otherwise, it looks great! I noticed the bottom one looks a little bit brighter - if so, i like that better (the brighter yellow)...

Cool? =) Again, I'm sorry for the delay...

marhattan
07-07-2009, 12:44 PM
Okay, actually - a couple small revisions... =/

Can we move "builder kit" on the front cover up slightly so it's seperated by about the same spacing as is in "small business"?

And it may be already - but can we select the brightest blue from the bottom band of blue to use for the font color on the spine "builder kit"?

and lastly, as I suggested in the previous post, use the brighter yellow -> red gradient...

awesome, thank you!

marhattan

Okay, here is the word from the printer:

"I want to make sure you have the most updated version of
our artwork specs:

http://www.speakerfulfillmentservices.com/ArtworkSpecs.pdf

The final jpegs should be separated into front, back and spine
files (the binders we use have 3 separate pockets--for the
front cover, spine, and back cover).

The final dimensions do cover/include the 1/4" bleed."

If not, where should I send it to?
email address?

ps: btw, the rectangle-outline on the graphics above is only to show you the bleed/trim edge.. so, that is the area left after cut..
i guess i won't get the bonus since the files are not delivered within the deadline.. he he :)
